    This is the best video I've seen on maintenance of the Penn Senator 6/0 (114H) Fishing Reel; educational, excellently descriptive. Thank you.

    A superb tutorial. As the proud owner of a nearly mint Penn Senator 6/0 , inherited from my father, but not fished for 50 years, I will enjoy stripping it down and cleaning it up. Also the 50 year old line on it could do with replacement!

    When I reassemble the bridge/assembly and dog/spring back into the head plate, I do two things to make it easier and to not have to worry about chasing the dreaded "flying dog spring" across the shop. First I cut two small strips of masking tape, one, to hold the head of the screw that is put in place to hold the dog still, and two, a tiny piece over the end of the dog spring from flying out of it's place in the well while I rotate the bridge into it's final position. The tape holds these components for me while I line up everything else, and they peel off easy after they are no longer needed. The two strips of masking tape act like a third and fourth hand, so to speak, or extra fingers if that makes more sense. I have never had to chase a flying spring again after I started doing this. I hope this helps someone out there to make reassembly a bit easier. Great, clear video. Thank you.

    Great Video . . . I have been looking crazy to find a video like this one where you show step by step
    how to dismantle this kind of fishing reel and to put it all back together - I have a few old fishing reels
    from my grandfather where they require cleaning and greasing up - just subscribed to your channel .

    Bought a used one for about half price. Gave my 6/0 to my Son and now I wanted another one. I'm curious. I only saw you ose a little oil on the exterior of the clicker slide lever and nowhere else. Also, I was taught to grease around the inside edges of the spool to prevent water from getting inside.

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! General places on these reels I'll oil are the bearings and handle knob. Everything else, I'll usually use grease.
      Regarding the greasing of the rim of the spool, you should do it if it gives you peace of mind, but that probably doesn't help.... however, greasing the entire inside of the spool will protect the metal. If you're talking about greasing the edges of the spool to block water from getting inside to the gears and such, that wont help.
      Hope the info helps. Spread the word about the channel.

    Note that the pin on the gear sleeve only comes off and goes on one way only.

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and sharing! I don't think these pins are like those on some baitcaster spools where one end is sloped, but I have found that these pins usually only go back in a specific way after removal, probably because of stress on one end when pounding/pressing it in. All the gear sleeve pins I have are a consistent thickness throughout and the ones at Mystic look to be the same:
      www.mysticparts.com/PennParts/Parts/102-114.aspx
      It'd be great if you could upload a video of a new pin that's sloped.

      @TSGReelService  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You're welcome and thanks for checking out the video! Try eBay...... they should have sellers that have what you want (see my list in the community board). You may have to use t a mail forwarding company to get your orders shipped to Mexico, as not many sellers ship directly there. For the 114H (6/0) and 115L (9/0), you're looking for either the 6-115, for the carbon fiber drag washers only...... or 6-114HSP for the complete kit.

    Is there a video somewhere for the Penn US senator 113W, I’m having trouble reassembling the two dog springs

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Not that I know of. The double dog is set up opposing each other, like on a Formula KG. If you set the bridge flat on a table with the post at the bottom and look from above, one dog tooth should be facing up and the other facing down. You'll need to set the springs accordingly to facilitate that look with the springs adding pressure to the back side of each dog. Hope that helps.
