Peter never said he wouldn’t kill the king because there had been enough death. The only reason he didn’t kill him is, as he said, it wasn’t his to take. It was Caspian’s. Caspian deserved his revenge and Peter wasn’t going to take that from Caspian.

Despite being kids' fantasy, the series is surprisingly deep. Both Lewis and Tolkien were heavily influenced by their experiences as soldiers in WWI, so the depictions of conflict/war and the struggle to find hope in the midst of hopelessness is a common theme in both Narnia and LOTR. They also saw the loss of connection between humankind and the natural world (as a result of unchecked technological advancement) as a negative thing, hence why both stories have such a huge emphasis on nature being alive (like the talking animals here or the Ents in LOTR). The Narnians taking back their land is at least partly a story about nature reclaiming what was destroyed in the advancement of civilization, as well as encouraging people to adopt a mindset that we shouldn't seek to conquer nature as much as to recognize that we are a part of it. We belong to the natural world as much as it belongs to us

Lewis and Tolkien were also friends. Treebeard was Tolkien’s representation of Lewis, and they were contemporaries who often shared ideas with each other.
Beyond that, they were dear friends whose genius as writers can be seen even in this gen z era, which I say as a gen z.

    For JV,
The siblings becoming kids again is a metaphor for all the boys who went off to war, and once war is over those who survive come back are treated as children/expected to act their age. Peter struggles to act "normal" after living a whole lifetime. I've yet to finish the books so I don't know how well the other kids fair.

nah in my opinion the movie is telling us how if you stay too long in Narnia you tend to forget as time goes on this would explain why Aslan would always send them home after they had learn the lesson. This would also explain why time is different in Narnia than in the world, times can pass in Narnia while back home its like they never left.

In the book Prince Caspian is younger than he is in the movies, and is rather in awe of the "ancient" kings and queens.
In the book Caspian has a failed attempt at attacking the Telmarines, but not in the palace. Peter and the others arrive after that failed battle.

  • @fullmetalandtheflame438
    @fullmetalandtheflame438 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +62

Neither Peter nor Caspian have any qulams about killing people in the right circumstances. They both kill in battle. But I think you missed the point of the scene with Miraz (Caspian’s uncle who became the Telmarine King). Peter didn’t kill him because, as he said, it wasn’t his to take. He didn’t have a claim to Miraz’s life in the same way Caspian did. Peter was allowing Caspian to take his revenge for his father’s death. Exactly the thing that Caspian had tried to do earlier during the castle invasion that Peter had gotten so mad at him for. It was growth on Peter’s part as he acknowledged the importance of this moment for Caspian.
As for Caspian, not killing Miraz was a huge step for him. He didn’t kill him because it would have been purely out of revenge. Peter had won the duel, Miraz didn’t need to die. If Caspian had killed him, it would have been in cold blood. Even though Miraz’s life was forfeit for losing the duel, there’s a big difference between killing an enemy in the heat of combat, a life ir death situation, and killing a helpless, gravely wounded enemy. Miraz had been defeated and had a stab wound in his stomach. Killing him would have been pure revenge. By soaring his life, Caspian showed huge character growth.
Sure, you can argue that they should have killed him because Miraz wouldn’t have kept his word to call of the attack. But the Telmarines didn’t follow the rules of combat anyway. It wouldn’t have made one but of difference if Caspian or Peter had killed him as opposed to the Telmarine Lord. They would have gone back on their word and attacked regardless - saying the Narnians had cheated somehow.
It was far more important for Peter and Caspian to have those moments of character growth and round out their character arcs for this story.

Thank you for this reaction! I don’t know if you knew this, but Reepicheep and his fellow mice are descendants of the very same mice that ate away the cords that bound Aslan to the Stone Table. It’s also suggested that the evil dwarf Nikabrik is a descendant of Ginnabrik, the White Witch’s dwarf in the film. My favorite moments are the children returning to Narnia, seeing the cave drawings and the Stone Table still cracked from Aslan’s resurrection, when we see the dark ritual take place and that Edmund destroys the wall of ice to prevent the return of the White Witch, the showing of Aslan in that scene to remind us to always have faith in Jesus even in the darkest of times, Aslan’s return and turning the tides of the battle, and how Peter and Susan must accept the responsibility of finally growing up while Edmund and Lucy will still be able to return to have another adventure with their new friend and fellow ruler Caspian.

    • @PhilBagels

I'm sure that's intentional. The Telmarines have taken over, and they don't believe in magic, and specifically reject the magical nature of Narnia. So the magic sort of goes into "hiding". Now that the Telmarines are defeated, the magic can come back for the next movie.

So in regards to publication order, The Hobbit was first published in 1937, then came the first 4 Narnia books (Lion Witch Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Dawn Treader, Silver Chair) from 1950-1953, The Lord of the Rings books and the next two Narnia books (Horse and His Boy and Magician;s Nephew) were published in 1954-1955, with the final Narnia book published in 1956. Film wise, The Lord of the Rings films came out first from 2001-2003 and then Narnia came out in 2005 and 2008.

They were the only humans technically in the first one, but there were other lands that, as they grew up in their first life as rulers, they made agreements with. I'm pretty sure, just before they left the first time, Susan was thinking of marriage.

Yes, there are other lands across the sea and around the Narnian country where humans exist, as Susan had some suitors and they had allies.

I've heard they're going to be continuing the series soon. There were a total of seven books. I would really love to see movies for the rest of them. But there is an inherent "Hollywood" problem with them. Peter and Susan don't come back for the next one, and the main characters change. Unlike in the Harry Potter books or other serieses, where we follow the same characters. It's already a bit sad that we don't get to see the Beavers and Mr. Tumnus again. This presents a marketing problem for movies, at least in the minds of the executives and producers. Of course, it's not going to matter much in this case, since so much time has passed since the making of the third movie, that they probably won't be able to use the same actors anyway. Except for Liam Neeson.

J.K. Rowling has said she was influenced by Narnia and whether it was on purpose or not, each of the Pevensie children represent each of the houses in Hogwarts. Peter = Gryffindor: Brave, loyal, honourable, chivalrous, a natural fighter & leader and protects his family at all costs but is impulsive and proud. Edmund = Slytherin: Ambitious, intelligent, resourceful, falls into temptation to gain power & recognition. Susan = Ravenclaw: Logical, wise, intelligent, witty, caring and often the voice of reason. Lucy = Hufflepuff: Kind, helpful, selfless, forgives easily and treats everyone as equals. She also has a bit of Gryffindor in her: Brave and loyal. Caspian could be a Hufflepuff or a Gryffindor too: Strong, loyal, kind, noble, strives for fairness and justice.
When the first film came out I was 12 and crushing on William Moseley & Skandar Keynes. When this came out I was 15 and crushing on William Moseley, Skandar Keynes & Ben Barnes. Today I am 30 and still crushing on all of them LOL (although there are very few recent photos of Skandar).
I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion but I think Ben Barnes is the perfect Caspian, in spite of them aging him a lot from the books. Btw another film starring Ben I recommend is Stardust (even though he only has a minor role).
Fun fact: Douglas Gresham, C.S. Lewis' stepson and heir is the dude you hear announce the birth of Miraz's son.

I don't know if I'm right in this, but there seems to be a bit of a plot hole in terms of the Telmarine timeline - they're said (at least in the film) to have arrived not long after the Pevensy children left, brigands run aground on island from the same world....but their garb and the way they speak, their knowledge of infantry and battle strategy suggest they came from an earlier time. It's highly likely though that I'm misinterpreting the timelines and they simply learnt all the knowledge they have over the 1300 or so years their people have been in Narnia but I welcome respectful replies and takes on my thoughts -particularly from those who've read the books, if this storyline is included in them 😊

as someone who loves the books, i find it difficult to see how they adapted the story. it was highly inaccurate, although it did have it's moments to be enjoyable as a whole. the third movie is even more of a disappointment when being accurate to the book. the first movie was about 75% accurate, this one was about 60% accurate, and the third is about 40% accurate. i HIGHLY recommend that you read the books after seeing the movies, they provide more depth to the story. and yes, there is a preferred order.
the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe
    prince caspian
the voyage of the dawn treader
    the silver chair
    the horse and his boy
    the magician's nephew
    the last battle

I agree, but for the next film, I totally get why they went that angle with it. The book is not really clear what is happening. It just happens, except for Reepicheep's quest, and the 7 Lords.
The film at least has why things are happening, and also why Aslan barely shows up.
It is because of what Lucy was dealing with, and what happened with her, since Aslan's big scene is with her choice, and the consequences of that choice, which affect both Aslan himself, and Narnia.

The actual chronological order for the books was:
      1. The Magicians Nephew
      2. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
      3. The Horse and His Boy
      4. Prince Caspian
      5. Voyage of the Dawn Treader
      6. The Silver Chair
      7. The Last Battle

While I'll admit I love all three movies. I wish just once someone would make a start of the movie franchise and actually complete it. Don't release the movies in the order the books came out in or these movies came out in. Instead do them in chronological order. Magician nephew, then Lion witch and wardrobe, then horse and his boy, then Caspian and Dawn trader, and end it up with silver chair and final battle.

    • @nayjay468

The Magician's nephew is the least interesting. It'll kill the franchise.

This movie absolutely messed up the book, it's barely recognizable but I actually prefer this way. The book is fricken weird, by far the weirdest of them all. And is my second least favorite of the books.
    King Peter is Saint Peter
    King Edmund is Judas
    Queen Susan is Mary Magdalene
Queen Lucy is Mary Mother of Jesus
Nothing to do with Harry Potter.
