Pat, gotta agree on most of the B.C. Rich basses. IMO the only exception might be the Eagle bass. Check it out if you get a chance, it still may fall on your ugly radar.
Also have one more suggestion that is definitely a love or hate bass. A very little known Matsumoku bass from the late 70's - early 80's, the Westbury track 4. I love it personally (used by one of my favorite bands), but I could see how some might be put off by the pickguard for sure at the very least.

Why does every "popular" bass TH-camr have to be so annoying. Even as a guitarist, I think bass should be represented better than these try hard memes. Not sure about that... SOME warlocks are great. But those are guitars. I've seen an Instagram post about an 80's warlock. Clover fox Bich bass is amazing, It doesn’t even have to do with the shape of the warlock bass that annoys me, they just do the basic job of a bass but nothing more. It’s simple but it doesn’t sound very good, and honestly they don’t have that cool factor I thought they had when I was a kid.

I have a mockingbird( it was made somewhen between 2000-2012, didnt really find any information on it. It is one of the newer ones, which get hate for no reason ) which is Korean made and it is awesome. Fender makes at least one 24-fret Jazz now, I had one and sold it to a friend of mine. Deluxe Active Jazz 24, I think the model name is. Man, that Laguna or whatever really was pathetic. It would sound like absolute schites, too. MM humbuckers are great, in active basses or some passive ones with a neck pickup. Cheap knockoff MM humbuckers are usually way too hot and harsh with no musicality, plus that one's WAY too close to the bridge. You're right, it is sad. Yeah, the Jetstar guitar's bad enough, the bass is truly wretched. I always thought the Cort Curbow was an ALMOST really cool looking bass, that stupid headstock ruins it. The Thumb, oddly, is the only Warwick I've ever liked or owned. My 4-string Thumb B.O. remains one of the best sounding and feeling basses I've ever had, but it was neck heavy to the point of not being useable and got sold. Keep 'em coming!

I used to have a Warwick Thumb bass, and still have a Dolphin I bought 20 years ago, so I’m carrying double shame. :)
The Thumb sounded fantastic, but had the worst neck dive I’ve ever run into. A constant struggle to keep it from tipping towards the floor.
The Dolphin, as admittedly weird as it looks, is one of the most well-balanced instruments I’ve ever played. That goofy rhombus shape makes it hang *perfect* on a strap, which is kind of a necessity, because the old rosewood ones are heavy AF. Neutron star heavy. And it’s a huge pain in the ass to play sitting down. Sounds RAD, though. Crazy number of tones; super versatile. And, TBH, I kinda like the little inlays… even though they look like they’re stolen from a Florida casino gift shop.

Hello Patrick! I’ve been watching your videos for the past couple of weeks and I must say I’m enjoying them. Especially, these ugly bass videos. But I was upset when I heard you miss pronounce the brand Hamer by calling it a hammer. As I hope you know, Hamer (pronounced “hay-mer”) has made some incredibly awesome and high-quality guitars and bases since the 80s. Just look up Rick Nielsen and Tom Peterson of Cheap Trick and you’ll learn everything you need to know about them. I fully agree that the buzzard is a stupid looking bass and should have never been brought into this world. I will say though, that the Hamer Explorer bass used by Rick Savage of Def Leppard for example, is one of the all-time coolest basses ever made. Tom Peterson‘s 12 string bass is also incredibly awesome. But you got to get the name right buddy. Keep up the good videos. Hopefully I did not come off sounding like a jerk in my comment here. Nothing but love here. God bless and I’ll see you on the low end.

My dad is obsessed with factor! I've never had the pleasure of owning one, BUT, he had some old pickups laying around (he wanted to always keep extra electronics for his gear). SO i decided to custom build my baby and i hooked it up with the original electronics and pickups from 1988/90 ish (i think maybe im not sure actually,) and it is GORGEOUS sounding!

I actually like the Warwick's but the thumb does look odd proportionally and as far as inlays go Paul Reed Smith thinks everyone likes birds...I want a custom Warwick Streamer with light up inlays of the VW logos 👍😎👍

Ha! I actually got a schecter riot for $200 at a pawn shop and it’s actually one of my favorite basses. The top horn could’ve been a little shorter and I think it’d look better, but the lower horn being curved down actually wraps your nicely when sitting. But, the offset body, 6 bolt neck, string through body, with the option of a standard bridge, active emg humbuckers....it’s worth grabbing if you can find one for cheap.

Those Peavey and Gibsons from the 70s/80s with the natural plank bodies and the huge pickups are just the ugliest fucking basses ever. They look like those Sears catalog/Teisos dumpster guitars you'd find for $20 in a pawn shop.

Say what you will about the Schecter Riot bass but I own one of the 4 string models and when you play it, it's a dream. That's where it shines! It's the sound. EMG's with 3 band EQ and string thru swamp Ash body. It rocks!

I actually like the BC Rich "Bitch" type bass. They're a little clunky sitting down, but with a strap they stay right where you put them. They sound thick and heavy too, which helps bring the metal........

I got a Squier HM brand new back in high school when everyone was saying, "You need a P bass." The electronics are terrible, but the neck is amazing. 20 something years later it remains one bass I'll never part with.

Patrick, nevermind the haters. The internet is the place where you post a picture of the sun, and then someone comes and says "I prefer the moon and you must die!".
It's ok to have a different opinion. but some people just can't help showing the ugliness of their inner selves.
I'm loving this series, keep it coming. Lots of basses I didn't even knew they existed.
    Have a great weekend.

Wow, These were indeed some really ugly mofos of basses.... Beyond the stretch of any imagination.
To my ugly list the Hofner violin bass is also a permanent resident - I really dont care about slaughtering a holy cow here.

I never thought about the Thumb being a ugly bass, I guess it is but it is such an iconic bass that people probably don't think of it as being ugly. I had one once... It sounded amazing, it also wound up with a twisted neck!!! :(

I think a lot of those pointy guitars he mentions in these vids look pretty sick, too bad most of them play like garbage. If you buy a BC Rich bass guitar new for less than 800 bucks you are buying it for the looks, cuz that shit is made with fiberglass insulation and the pickups are wound with dental floss

Headstock aside, the Hamer Scarab suffers from the Gibson Guitar-to-bass syndrome because I had the guitar model of that and it played and look beautifully. My theory is that the tailpiece bridge design paired with the longer scale length of the neck is what makes the translation suck because the bodies weren't made to accommodate that much string on them.

I love your ugly bass vids because I love ugly bass's . I always wanted a warlock but the tone was never distinct enough (on the ones I've played) to rationalize a purchase. Would love to get one used and hotrod it with EMG's or bartolini's and a heavy badass .

First of all of you who are insulting Patrick because he has an opinion you can just leave. As a human being he has a right to an opinion and the right to voice that opinion you wouldn’t like it if someone came up to you and said your opinion is stupid and does not matter so DONT DO IT TO HIM.

I actually like the Guild JetStar as well as the T Bird guitars too which on the early models featured a fold out stand recessed in the back of the body. I love em. Cool as fuck.
