Patches continues to be true to its name! The previous bodge repairs impress for all the wrong reasons. Epic to see the progress you're making with it, thank you!
@@jasonmillington4344 They're doing it for free to get their name more out there. But YCR doesn't charge as much as they could have. Of course when you leave them a project that's gonna take round about a year I'm guesstimating'ish you'd be looking at around 12k more or less (it depends) for something like this so not too bad actually, especially considering how much these 914's go for in good nick (which this one will be). For simpler stuff, say you bring in an MX5 in need of outer sills and rear wheel arches and probably bits and pieces of floor, but they don't change out half a car just based on surface rust (when they can clean it with the grinder and spray some rust converter on) you'd be looking at around 2k, give or take, which is surmountable for most enthusiast vehicle owners.
All the pressings are available for many British cars, a shame the Porsche, which has many design flaws that guarantee terminal rust, don't supply tin.
Watching the fabrication work going into this car is amazing, love how the boys break it down, making it look so simple. I'm a lucky guy having my car in the workshop with them!
These videos confound me. A bunch of (nice and very talented) blokes who wield grinders, cutters, lasers, hammers and various welding tools to reshape boring sheet steel into art. Art in the various shapes that go to make up the various shapes of a car. It's mesmerising to see a rust riddled body shell turned into a thing of beauty. A shape that is possibly stronger than the original parts were. Then to see that body prepared for paint and the ugly duckling that arrived in the workshop becomes the swan it deserves to be. I just hope that the engine and running gear receive the same love and attention that the bodywork has received. So looking forward to seeing 'Patches' become the swan with a good coat of paint and be driven away from the workshop. Thank you for sharing 😉
At the conclusion of this Porsche restoration journey, I’d be keenly interested in you revealing the cost of transforming that rust bucket into the finished vehicle. I imagine it’s not cheap and deep pockets are a prerequisite before embarking on such an endeavour.
This is always the problem with restoration projects they do not seem too bad to start with and THEN THE TRUTH HITS HOME and you say crikey I wish I had never started this , is it time to walk away. Frequently heart rules head and we carry on regardless.
I like this build. Interesting choice of porches. Definitely would have been my first choice but it's a cool car. I do however like the Cosmo better. More Cosmo please.
Found you guys via the Matt Armstrong project, since then I’ve been back to the beginning and I’ve watched the lot, so interesting entertaining. It’s been awesome watching your progress especially you Ryan!! Steve you’re an artist! More from Richard and most of all MORE VIDEOS!! 👊🏻
your humour makes me smile a lot everytime, and our talent impresses me also, cant wait to see, if shme150 dare to, the atrocity of the costs for this car.
Fantastic work as usual 👍 With the amount of sanding / wire wheeling needed, would you have been better off chemically dipping or is that a process you wouldn’t recommend?
Hello 👋 good buddy Ryan, you sure named it right in patches with all of the previous patchwork done but watching you fabricate the body panels is pure eye candy 🍬 you are the best I love to watch you do your artwork it's extremely extremely good 👍 it's the best 👌 I ever saw before. Good seeing you buddy I sure miss you guys.
Love a charity weekend chaps were we could pay for a tour and demonstrations etc. If you're up for it at some point, best channel on youtube!! Thanks for all the content!!
Thanks so much Joe. And we are not sure yet. We are just in discussion with the event organisers at the moment. Get us on Instagram and I will be able to let you know if we do end up going
Very nice, progress is coming and nicely.your family are all skilled and impressive craftsmen.just continue doing what you do best.be safe.can’t wait till next week.be safe👍👍👍😎😎😎
Makes me think back to cars with baked bean cans riveted to structure smoothed over to look like a welded edge and then plastered in thick underseal to get through an MOT.
I'm worried about the door bracing being up at the top of the A pillar. Because the A pillar is notoriously flexy, and won't do much to keep the chassis from bending like a banana when you work in the sill area. The typical bracing points are the door hinge mounts, the door latch mounts, and the seatbelt mounts.
Been meaning to ask you, the clear rust treatment you use before the zinc spray, can i ask where i can get it from (it must be good if you use it lol) as restoring my 1982 Capri 2.8i and its got quite a few cavities i like to treat prior to covering them with panels sections, great program keep up the great work, thankyou.
People might say ‘why do you go through all this grief and do this!’ …… and you can genuinely say ‘because we can and we know how to and this will allow an old treasure live for longer!’ I just hope my Doctors feel the same when I go to them with ailments of age 😂😂😂😂😂
As I don't know squat about bodywork, I have been watching to learn techniques. So wondering the following... Have you used gasless welding for repairs, if so, any issues? If you weld in places that are hidden, is there a need to grind the weld back? Can you occasionally show the can you use to the camera? Is there an intention to spray something into the cavities after paint as I often see primer go on but not sure if that's enough protection, eg waxoyl? Thanks!!
This thing needs a GT4 drivetrain. Would hate to see the OE 4 cylinder go back in here after all this work. Maybe a Ferrari N/A V8 or Tuthill 911k engine???
It’s actually not as bad as it seems. Yes it’s rusty, yes it has crash damage but watching each panel skillfully recreated, it will be as good if not better than when it left the factory. Patches living up to its name again…
Is this the Yorkshire Car Restoration channel, or the Yorkshire Car Restoration channel? There are a couple 912s sinking into the ground a few miles from me in New Hampshire, USA. The owner is a hoarder, won't sell them nor the 1971 Alfa GTV I have been trying to get from him, he just won't let them go. Very frustrating. The 912s and the Alfa are straight and complete, but very rusty, though the 912s look better than the Alfa.
I have met a fair few people like that, they always think that their cars are worth more than working examples, and assure you the car needs hardly anything doing to it They are idiots
@@russthebiker He's an intelligent man, but a hoarder. I keep going back to talk to him, I'm hoping to achieve some rapport. Today I did him a favor, gave him a lawnmower. I'll keep working at it, the car looks like a horror show but it is straight and complete, I know I can rescue it.

You do know that Restoration Design in Canada makes most of these panels, right? You could save an awful lot of fabrication time if you started with their parts....
sorry not getting this its a Porsche 914/6 probably the vw beetle engine one they were not a good car awful rust buckets did not go well ? your tin bashing skills and fabrication skills are fantastic not in dought etc etc but the car needs throwing in a skip its not worth saving so what is it with shmee ? i get he is a b/s er in it for the money but this is not a classic porsche worth saving ? still nice work by you blokes .
You don't need to "get" anything. Just enjoy watching what is basically a "how to" video of properly repairing and restoring a car that was only fit for the scrap heap. Forget bodging and the "that'll bloody do" mentality. This is how it's done
Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to cut out the VIN and weld it into another chassis… 😮 … ? Four little cuts, some little welding around, and it’s all done?!?
Schmee: With your money and audience it would seem that perhaps you could have found a better car to start out with. Yorkshire guys certainly seem to be the guys to work on the pile of rust you have given them. Good content but what a pile of junk. I almost bought one of these in the 1970s and it was a pile of junk new. IMHO

The Old repairs are impressive. A bit of time has been spent on this car previously, but hey, it wouldnt be Patches without the patches I guess. 😅🤣
Can’t wait to see the final bill 😂😂😂
Definitely need a Flat Six of the 4.0 variety in this and some Fat Arches to fill with Fuchs finest🥰

At this point it looks like it would have been easier to buy the blueprints from Porsche and just built it from scratch 😂

Another banger! So cool to see everyone in the shop showing us how it's done.
The textbook definition of the Ship of Theseus. I wager you could build a second 914 with the removed bits.
