You’re really a fool . Imagine thinking Beyoncé film was supposed to cover every problem within the queer community. Should she also have showcased how nasty and vile queer culture can be ? The violence that occurs within the queer community. Some people have been harmed while attending balls and almost lost their lives.
Secondly queerness should not be associated with the stigma of a disease . You are a walking statistic do you have no problem with that . Not every queer person wants to be known for that stigma . Then when artist like Dababy say things such as they all have that backpack 🎒 you are ready to cancel them.

I remember when Beyonce was "donating" to the Flint Water Crisis via ticket sales from the On the Run tour. Her fans was saying that she was generous to give to such a tragic cause. I pointed out that technically Beyonce wasn't giving anything; the fans were donating by buying concert tickets. If she had genuine concern for the crisis, she would've just cut the check and not even involve the fans. Of course I was attacked by the hive. Fans need to realize when they're favs aren't authentic and when they're being used.

Multiple things can be true. The critiques of her not speaking about and pulling the film out of Israel are accurate. At the same time, I’m not looking for any celebrity to speak up on anything. We asked them to do that in the early days of BLM and it was a DISASTER. Many of them are politically ignorant and uneducated even when they’re cosplaying as revolutionaries. Part of the cult of celebrity is people looking to them as leaders when they’re not and not fully using their own power to change things. At this point, she is who she is and every consumer has to make a decision of how they want to engage with her.

As a non American (Jamaican)it so interesting to see all of this… Beyoncé is that Famous partly because of the fact that she is American. And that American imperialism through media and culture is one of the strongest ways America has colonized the world. She is a Black Capitalist, she takes from countless marginalized cultures and make millions. Americans deify that woman not only because she is an incredible artist, but because she stands at the intersection of class, colour and gender politics. And as we questions those things, there are so many cracks in the concept that is her stardom, and deification.
And just a extra tidbit: when I was in High School in Jamaica, she and Jay z were shooting that motorcycle scene in one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the city, neither Beyoncé more Jay Z have direct ties to that community, and quite frankly the country. Jamaica is in one of the most oppressed countries in the world, she has never once talk about it, but she dutty whine the house done and profit of the culture. Even her collaboration with Sean Paul, he’s a rich non black Jamaican, and he lives in his gated community, his light skinned wife is a Karen, she called the police on USAIN BOLT, because he was being “too loud”

@@ToniaAlex13 girl you need to put Jamaica in the context of the rest of the world, instead of allowing yourself to exist in a bubble. Sean Paul is non black, the wife is barely black and the use their colour, class and privilege to continue the fuckery conditions people are living it, but he is lawded as Jamaicas great gift. I said that because it added context, especially as people outside of Jamaica see Sean Paul in a certain way and do have any understanding of his position in the society.
As for you and your neighbours, maybe if we had proper infrastructure to facilitate partying in Jamaica, (partying being one of the biggest and vital parts of our culture) maybe people won’t have to be partying next to you. And girl if you called the police on your neighbour they are not going to come, the reason the police went to her home was the address and skin colour…let’s be real for a moment here.

What is happening over there is so wrong and evil and it shouldn't be happening. Like you said there's nothing wrong with having these types of conversations. I actually love that these HONEST & VERY REAL conversations are happening more. I love the artistry and creativity behind Beyoncé but she is not invincible and the exception to the rule when it comes down to criticisms. Honestly, I think some of the fans are more bothered by it than she is and that's what's more odd and scary.

@@scorpiocara6798 I can respect your opinion. But the truth is what is happening there is extreme and it's not something happening "everywhere." Yes every place is probably experiencing their own hardships and inequalities but it's not on the same level. And according to what's been on record...Bey has been selective with what she address and how she addresses political issues and situations. Which, I can understand when you have a public platform. She was very vocal about getting Obama in office and even BLM and and I am sure there are other things that aren't coming to mind at the moment. However, those event were also huge & heavy topics...topics a lot of others were afraid to speak on as well bc of the controversy surrounding it. What really makes what's happening in that part of the world any different? People with her influence unfortunately have a certain level of duty to the world & their fan base. The main problem with the industry is that it's saturated with a lot of "yes" men and people who are too scared to challenge the artists or talent because of whatever their reasons are. But, challenges is what builds character and relationships. There's nothing wrong with wanting better and not just more from the artists and public figures we support so freely. If ee can ask for a new album or tour from her there shouldn't really be any push back when we ask that she uses her platform for the greater good and meaningful causes. That's all I'm saying.

Beyonce is incredibly talented at promoting black aspiration and excellence. However, I have never considered her to be a political figure. As an artist, she often incorporates political moments into her work, which sparks conversation and provides entertainment. While denouncing genocide is important, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a complicated situation that involves cultural differences. I believe that taking a side in this conflict is what has caused it to persist for 70 years. Therefore, it requires a more in-depth analysis to understand and provide a solution to the conflict.
Beyonce's non actions vs governments that have been involved in the conflict. It is not fair argument. It is easier to target a celebrity than to hold elected officials accountable for their actions.
Just because Beyonce references Malcolm X in her music does not mean that she is an expert on cultural conflicts that black Americans may not fully understand. Even Malcolm X, despite his solidarity and support, was not an expert on this issue. Black people are often expected to stand with every injustice in the world and its an unfair expectation. It also is very performative to do so
Not every Black revolutionary took a stance on every conflict around the world. Their politics was about black issues and thats really it.

As a honeybee in the Beyhive, I agree that no celebrity is above critique and constructive criticism, including the Queen. Honestly, I don't want celebs to speak up about global issues. A lot of them are not living in "reality," do not have a worldly perspective, and ignorant. As much as stan culture has grown into complete negativity, it's made me step back from celeb culture, unfollowing IG blogs and celebs. I HATE to be devil's advocate (because points are being MADE), but idk if any other films pulled out of Israel or even if they could bc she/Parkwood may not be the distributer or had a distribution deal.

What does our freedom have to do with holding Beyoncé accountable? And accountable for what? She didn’t harm anyone. She didn’t slaughter people or start wars. The argument is we hold these celebs to too high a standard but in that same breath we fault them for saving the world with their advocacy. Now either they’re normal folk who need to be treated as humans or they’re otherworldly beings who must fix whatever ails the planet. They can’t be both.

The fact people can't have a critique of celebs these days is sad and disgusting...and how ironic it comes right as talent is at an all time low. I don't know why certain fans get off on so called 'praise' of their favs when 99% of it is FAKE or forced anyway. They are crippling the arts with this coddling. Then people wanna gasp when SOME celebs are abusing and using people in dark ways behind the scenes! Celebs are far from Gods.

Seeing some of the comments are disheartening. I encourage us all to talk to each other IRL about the things that have us idolizing celebrities even when the contradiction of them not being “one of us” is disturbingly clear. This is not by accident, the idea of celebrity esp American is primarily to mislead us into thinking we can individually amass wealth to obtain societal safety and economic security, but most importantly to NOT seek community and organize around our own needs (fair wages, healthcare NOT tied to labor, community safety etc ).
Statistically most of us are closer to poverty than wealth, most of us will die at the same class level that we were born in and most of us are working class/poor. How are we defending people that continue to hoard millions of dollars when most of the world is losing economic security and basic needs, they are billionaires and we are in a climate crisis, they don’t engage in political rhetoric and activity that benefit the masses. These people are exploiters, they can make amazing music and perform their ass off but just as we hold reverence for Beyonces talent we must also hold the performative facade she props up to delude us into paying $$ for concert tix, perfumes and films. You can enjoy the escapism but don’t hold expectations of these celebrities to have our interests in mind, please engage with your peers to develop ideology and practices that supports each other because celebrities are not one of us.

Can you please elaborate on how Bey capitalizes on what's popular at the moment? If you knew her career, you'd know she's always been feminist, pro-black, and pro-gay rights. Independent Women? Freakum Dress? Specifically hiring black women? Intentionally having all female band? I'm not saying you can't be critical of her, but there's a difference between being critical and making things up. It's a well known fact in the industry that Bey does the exact opposite of what's mainstream most of the time. When she released 4, the biggest genre was EDM and 4 was an R&B album through and through? During a time of overt promotion, Bey surprise dropped self-titled? I'm only bringing up these points to say it's categorically false that she plays into popularity. She hasn't done that since her I Am Sasha Fierce era.

Beyonce has deliberately stood for equality and anti-oppression, in the Black community specifically. For her not to voice concerns about genocide in Congo, Palestine, or anywhere else contradicts the platforms she's used to propel herself even further, including the 'Black is King' production-especially when she's promoting blood diamonds. It's also weird to think a Black woman would expect a white woman to fight against colonialism more so than a Black woman. I think you should try another take. I also find it ridiculous that people continue to compare Lady Gaga and Beyonce, bringing-up Lady Gaga any time someone speaks of Beyonce like they're even comparable.

She has quite literally used very direct quotes from these figures in her works, especially in her Homecoming documentary. After all, we're having these conversations. Whether it's in Beyonce's favor or not, you and other people in these comments have made it very clear that you expect her to be an activist because she's acknowledged revolutionary movements in her art before. In an ironic way, she is sort of sparking a debate about our expectations of celebrity.
To your second point, if "people who care about these things will learn about them in an appropriate way," then why are we even having this discussion? If there's no way you can care about important political issues if you're learning about them from Beyonce, then why are we looking to her for a statement? Isn't that contradictory? And if one of our touch stones for this conversation is Malcolm X, then aren't we doing him a disservice by centering any celebrity in these conflicts, considering he very blatantly stood against that?
