Matt Corby is an Australian icon. I think one of our best artists and possibly one of the best world wide. His range of vocals, his song writing, his instrumental talent and ability to play countless instruments. I’ve seen him live a few times and he performs with no shoes on and has to stand more than a metre away from the microphone during songs like this because his voice is so loud and powerful. He is astonishing. You should give his Triple J cover of “Chains” a listen too and his original track “Monday”.
I gave the biggest smile when you said "He's got everything, hasn't he? The agility, control, technique, the tone. What is there left to do?". You had no idea what was coming! Also, LOVE that you're reacting to Australian artists. We have some very talented singers down here!
I love it when people discover Australian artists. I believe their voices & styles often reflect Australian culture with its diversity and infancy in style. Not necessarily going against the grain of modern styles but also not really fully matching up either. Which I think is the reason a lot of these songs area years old but would still get a current audience and following if they had the same backing as those overseas
Totally agree mate. To add to that we have our own way of doing things down under and some of our music is very 'funky' in non-mainstream ways. Matt is super traditional, but completely unique... which is kinda the aussie way.
"That's a tornado of talent!" - 😂😂 Love that description and sums up Matt very aptly. Shoutout to Wayne for the request and thank you Nina for giving Matt the appreciation he deserves and hopefully a whole new audience with your great reaction and insight. ❤️
Matt is the reluctant superstar, just writing and playing what matters to Matt. His live performances are so much greater than his studio stuff. He is the master of looping to boot.
I was lucky enough to live in the same area as Matt post Australian Idol and he used to play as the house band at a local pub nearby. Saw him turn from a 15 year old kid with a fringe. Into the talent he is today and not with raw talent. But with hard work and commitment. I used to wonder to myself "Can you imagine being one of the people who used to go to Sin-é when Jeff Buckley would play" i kind of feel like i know how they felt. Can you imagine if he had of actually won Australian Idol. The world probably never would have got this song.
Matt had all the cheat codes. It's not fair he's not been recognised internationally. Unfortunately most AUS artists don't play well with the sharks that run the game.
Same as the original comment you read! It's been years since I've seen this and always come back to it! Him doing the cover of Chains by Tina arena is phenomenal, also!
I've been to 2 of his shows in London in 2018, literally my favorite experiences ever! Both times! ♥️ I'm glad you liked him, his songs have so much meaning behind them.. they got me through some shitty times :)
At age 16, Matt Corby auditioned for the 5th season of Australian Idol in 2007 where he finished as runner-up! I'm in Texas, USA and I'm probably one of the few Americans that actually got to see Australian Idol, I always downloaded the episodes with Bit-Torrent at the time. I loved the show and I really liked Matt a lot, he was my favorite and what a talent. I'm really glad he's still around and in the business doing what he does best! Thanks for posting this video Nina, a very pleasant surprise indeed.
Thanks Nina. He's an insanely talented Australian artist. Can't wait to hear your reaction to The Teskey Brothers. Btw your eye make-up looks beautiful. :) Hugs from Aus
yep!! I remember the first time i heard him sing. He was 14 years old at a family reunion in a country NSW (Australia) town. He sang a few songs while the rest of the very large extended family ate dinner, in a large hall. He wanted to practice singing in front of a large crowd. I had never heard my entire extended family silent before, but we were all stunned at the quality of the singing and playing. One guitar, one voice and his sister as backing vocals. Pretty much the same reaction as you in this video. Since that JJJ performance, the one in this video, he has actually gotten so much better. His voice is stronger, he is more experienced, and there are no words to describe his creativity and musical talent. If he wasnt family he would still be my favourite artist. I can only suggest that if you have any opportunity to see him live, move heaven and earth to do so. What is scary is that he is still so young. Remember Madonna when she first started to what she is now? Santana ? Michael Jackson? Springsteen? Elvis? U2? Bob Dylan, Prince. I know there are many many more I havent mentioned that deserve to be but the point is, whoever they are, what were they at the beginning compared to their greatest performance? Now imagine what this guy is going to be like in the future.
Every Friday morning, we here in Australia are lucky enough to get 2 songs from a touring artist/band. Our national radio station Triple J host’s a live performance in their studios. The artist/band perform one of their own songs and then they do what’s called “like a version”. The artist/band will have chosen another song from anyone else and give us their version of said song. Gems are so often created Triple J create and sell the top tracks on an album every year called “Like a Version”.
I just stumbled upon this video and first thing I see is pug pillows in the background so you get an instant follower lol my pug Ted is one today!!! And Matt Corby is an absolute treasure
Meanwhile, us Australians are confused why everyone is reacting to a 10yr old Like a Version. Triple J gor the win. That last bit: "Engaging Jimmy Barnes Mode", lol
Watch the full video with intro. When you know the story of the song, it brings clarity to the emotion and power. It’s utterly genuine. Same reaction by everyone who hears it - stunned into silence 😂
Ive seen him do this song so many times now and it still gives me chills and raises the hairs on the back of my neck like its the first listen, absolutely brilliant
So glad you enjoyed this. We’re very proud we have talent like Matt in Australia. He’s awesome. If you’re looking for more, listen to Untitled, Resolution and Runaway. They’re all amazing original tracks of Matt. Thanks for the vid
If you haven't found it already, you must watch the balconytv version. Best by far. Literally played on a balcony with the low sound of city traffic in the background. No studio acoustic there.
I'm 22. When I was like 12/13 I used to replay this song on my phone like every single day. I think I must've heard it on the radio one day, or tv, I can't remember. It's quite a depressing yet expressive song and I connected to it emotively. I felt "seen" because I was very depressive back then in a way that felt very isolating. Today was my first time searching it up to see the face behind the voice. I didn't expect him to be so young. He's truly very in-tune with his voice. I was just watching you and saying to myself "You're in for a surprise" 😂 Loved this video reaction. God bless you in Jesus name.
Great reaction, Tom and Alex(the DJ's) were quite lucky to be in the same room as this performance, though this segment is a weekly occurance and there have been some amazing performances over the years. This is a standout one though.
I laughed out loud at “Well he’s just a tornado of talent”! Equally as someone who’s heard this recording well over a hundred times, I was waiting your reaction at that moment where he just unleashed everything.
Wow I absolutely loved this. Matt Corby is one of my fav artists, his music gives me goosebumps. This was a great video! He is impeccable isn't he?? Do you help people tap into that talent as a vocal coach??
I pretty much never comment on videos. I've only recently started watching reaction videos to things (my first one was Snarky Puppy's Lingus about 3 months ago)... and you're the best reviewer/reacter/reactor (what do you call yourself?) by far.
When describing all the positive attributes of this performance and his voice, how hard was it to stop yourself adding 'and he's super freaking hot too'?
A tornado of talent? I like that one, consider it stolen, I'll be using that. To answer your question, yes, I was blown away by this performance, stumbled across it some years back. If you haven't already, check out Uncle Jed's version, it's a little different but mighty good too.
Absolutely love this song and you're reaction. I want to introduce you to one of the two greatest singers to come out of Australia he has been performing and releasing albums for 50 year's. The song is Stone Cold by Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa. Joe plays the guitar and is American Jimmy Barnes sings and is from Australia. I will subscribe if you react to this song.
He wrote and sings this with many emotions of anger at himself, hurt, guilt and regret. He made a big boo boo by wrecking a friendship with his best friend because he slept with his mates gf.
Did anyone else get blown away by this performance? ♥️
Yes it gave me goosebumps I loved it so much Nina .
th-cam.com/video/ue9GembpIIE/w-d-xo.html
Completely! He is amazing, so talented & humble with it too.
One of Australias best
Nope... Chris kläfford actually made a better rendition imo... U should react to that instead..

Well written. He is bloody brilliant
Paul Dempsey is my first
omg you did an australian singer thanks Nina!! this song was massively popular here almost 10 years ago,
Yeah it’s amazing. Uncle Jed. They changed their name I think a while ago. Amazing group
@@Jespher1 Matt Corby is the original singer of this song… uncle Jed as they were known then did a cover of this masterpiece.
Nina has reacted to several Aussie singers
@@Jespher1 yeh Matt Corby wrote this song. Uncle Jed covered Matt’s song.
Israel cannan ,is a more hidden gem ...
I gave the biggest smile when you said "He's got everything, hasn't he? The agility, control, technique, the tone. What is there left to do?". You had no idea what was coming!

@@davehocking4091 hit the nail on the head there
What happens in Oz is that we don't pigeon hole artists, and just let them be. By not categorising it artists can just be, and we celebrate that.
his miracle love (live at manchester cathedral) is beautiful and his cover of chains tina turner (also triple j) is amazing too!!
Chains by Tina Arena (great performance though)
Agree and Monday is great too
Yes and yes!
Tina turner lol , I love that,we know who you mean
Two of my favorites. Monday is great as well, or All Fired Up live at Rainbow Valley. This guy is so underrated and exceptionally gifted.
"That's a tornado of talent!" - 😂😂 Love that description and sums up Matt very aptly. Shoutout to Wayne for the request and thank you Nina for giving Matt the appreciation he deserves and hopefully a whole new audience with your great reaction and insight. ❤️
You’ve gotta see Matt Corby covering Chains by Tina Arena - was on Triple J again. Absolutely Insane!
Matt is the reluctant superstar, just writing and playing what matters to Matt. His live performances are so much greater than his studio stuff. He is the master of looping to boot.

Every Aussie is like wait for it waaaaait for it
TRUE
this performance gives me chills every time.
Chills and tears, its so emotional and raw, this performance; and I love it all the more for bring me to tears.
Matt had all the cheat codes. It's not fair he's not been recognised internationally. Unfortunately most AUS artists don't play well with the sharks that run the game.
Absolutely nailed it
Buckley's rendition of Hallelujah was, before this, the only other time I teared up at witnessing sheer talent.
Now Kasey Chambers covering Loose Yourself gets me as well 😂.
Guy Sebastian is also an extremely talented Australian singer and his live version of battle scars is phenomenal. Worth reacting too.
Same as the original comment you read! It's been years since I've seen this and always come back to it!
Him doing the cover of Chains by Tina arena is phenomenal, also!
I get chills every time I watch and listen to this. Sooooo much emotion. I love it.
That performance blows me away every time I hear it , the emotion pouring out of him is something else wow 🤩
It can only come from genuine pain.
"Theres so much he has to give"
and then it begins.
Matt is a virtuoso. He made an album like Prince did playing all the instruments and singing all the backgrounds.
I've been to 2 of his shows in London in 2018, literally my favorite experiences ever! Both times! ♥️ I'm glad you liked him, his songs have so much meaning behind them.. they got me through some shitty times :)
In that same session Matt does a cover of the Black Keys " Lonely Boy" probably the best cover of "Lonely Boy" ever. Matt the "Reluctant Superstar"
Love that cover of lonely boy also

You need to react to Guy Sebastian 'Believer' live on the voice. If you thought 'Standing With You' was good live, wait until you hear this one! 🥰
Music is what feelings sound like. This is emotion in words and music….. powerfully moving
Thanks Nina. He's an insanely talented Australian artist. Can't wait to hear your reaction to The Teskey Brothers. Btw your eye make-up looks beautiful. :) Hugs from Aus

My favourite version of my favourite song.
Great reaction.😄 Please react to Guy Sebastian "Believer" on the Voice. Insane vocals...
Matt Corby was huge with this song in Australia, i saw him in 2016 at Falls festival too, hes a great performer.
Love this reaction

He's got some stunningly beautiful songs. You definitely need to check out more!
I LOVE it when people discover this man for the first time!!!
He is the master of textures and dynamics and register changes, the man is stunning.

I love you. And I Iove Matt Corby. And the wine I just drank has nothing to do with my appreciation of you both!
I love music.
❤
😍
I love that he ramps it it up... you knew it was there... and you love it more ❤❤❤
Gosh he’s amazing !

amazing to see someone with so much vocal control to throw it all out the window at the end in favor of pure emotion.
matt is amazing

i listened to this live on Aussie rario, I love watching people react to it! Matt Corby is an alien!
He wrote this about sleeping with his best friends girl. Absolutely sublime singer and an exquisite writer. He tours down here a bit!
GOD BLESS YA ( A TORNADO OF TALENT)!!!..❤
Matt Corby is criminally underrated.
Totally agree.
'Tornado of Talent' ! Love that. True! My 1st listen to Matt too. More please. 😳
Matt is amazing so much talent down under
If you get the chance to see him live, he’s even more amazing in person. So so talented and hasn’t made a single song I didn’t like.
So glad you enjoyed this. We’re very proud we have talent like Matt in Australia. He’s awesome. If you’re looking for more, listen to Untitled, Resolution and Runaway. They’re all amazing original tracks of Matt. Thanks for the vid

26 degrees (C) here and still got goosebumps!
One of my favourites artists hands down. The song Untitled and Monday are my personal favourites. I hope you explore his music some more!!
Haha. "Tornado of talent" - great phrase
Please react to Miracle Love or Chains or All fired up. All are live and amazing. Matt is a virtuoso. Please react to more.
What else is there…? Buckle up buttercup.
This performance is mental!
No not the first been loving him for years. He is a legend
Love this
I'd really like to see you react to Dermot Kennedy, if you haven't already. His voice is amazing :)
glad you liked the song
Officially a fan! Soo good🤩
I laughed out loud at “Well he’s just a tornado of talent”! Equally as someone who’s heard this recording well over a hundred times, I was waiting your reaction at that moment where he just unleashed everything.
Seen a few reactions on this song yours is the best 🔥🔥
Matt corby is one of the best vocalist on the planet
Hehe great reaction thank you
Yeeya....😁...that's our boy...🇦🇺...legend.
For a different take on his vocal skills you should watch Miracle Love as well.
Matt Corby is amazing but can i just say your eyes, they are piercingly beautiful!
Wow I absolutely loved this. Matt Corby is one of my fav artists, his music gives me goosebumps. This was a great video! He is impeccable isn't he?? Do you help people tap into that talent as a vocal coach??
Hello Josephine
How're you doing?
Thanks for all your love and support, also for being an amazing fan.
It's nice meeting you here

He is a stand out talent completely underrated 👏 should be world famous 🥰
Not Patreon at all BUT now John Farnham and see THE best we have.
"And I'm spent!" says Nina Schofield 😂
As 55 year old male, Matt gives me hope for todays music.
You need to check out Kasey Chambers cover of Lose yourself, it is masterpiece in itself ❤️
U need to listen to this guy do “chain” a Tina arena cover . AMAZING
check his live performance "Runaway"
I pretty much never comment on videos. I've only recently started watching reaction videos to things (my first one was Snarky Puppy's Lingus about 3 months ago)... and you're the best reviewer/reacter/reactor (what do you call yourself?) by far.
If you really want to hear what he is capable of doing, check out his cover of "Chains" you won't regret it. 👌
When describing all the positive attributes of this performance and his voice, how hard was it to stop yourself adding 'and he's super freaking hot too'?
Isn’t he phenomenal, it’s sad he isn’t as big as he should be here in Australia.
A tornado of talent? I like that one, consider it stolen, I'll be using that. To answer your question, yes, I was blown away by this performance, stumbled across it some years back. If you haven't already, check out Uncle Jed's version, it's a little different but mighty good too.
React to his cover of “chains” on like a version
Matt has the "Lord almighty "looks.. going on..
look up a cooee call. I feel that is what he is calling out at the start of his song. calling out to someone lost.
it's an Ausie thing.
Have you listen to the DMA version of Cher's Believe
Absolutely love this song and you're reaction. I want to introduce you to one of the two greatest singers to come out of Australia he has been performing and releasing albums for 50 year's. Should peep his "Monday" tune, just, unearthly
