They own Crunchyroll, Funimation which they folded into Crunchyroll, and Right stuff anime also folding it into crunchyroll so this would just be one step closer to an anime distribution monopoly.
Studios owned by Sony produce high-quality single-player games. Good single-player games are already produced by Fromsoft. Sony's effective takeover of the studio will not result in anything positive.

I don't think the head honchos in Japan would bother giving the other branch Fromsoft when it's such a cash cow. From what I know, it was a big funder for kadakowa. They'll probably keep it like that fund the anime stuff they're getting.

This is a sad day to be sure, but I'm also worried about how anime is potentially going to change. Despite being Japanese, Sony has made a strong connection to the West in its business practices and has made massive changes to cater to a broader Western market. Anime and games have been getting more and more restricted to reach what is claimed to be "acceptable content." Not all, but a lot of games have been suffering from these types of businesses for a few years now, making them feel lacking in authenticity. Now with Sony taking over Kadokawa, especially the publishing side of things, I sadly think anime is going to be facing the same problem. Hopefully not, but my trust in Sony to make the right decisions is nonexistent.
Hopefully Japan will stand strong. The manga is still being published in Japan, right? They aren't huge fans of censorship, so maybe manga will be safe. Very sad about the anime though (although I've heard Sony does control anime publishing sites already, and I haven't seen mass censorship yet).
The secret to beating it is to completely ignore any game that FromSoftware makes after Elden Ring at this point and just go back and play the rest of all their previous games.
I think he did say that if Sony bought FromSoft, he would actually leave the company. He's actually in a pretty advantageous position because most of his games since 2009 have all been technically original IPs that have been massively successful and beloved.

Consolidation is horrible, and I'd rather it not happen, but Sony really isn't the worst place for them to end up given the projects they've already worked on together.

What are you on about? Sony was the ones who released the Original release of Demon’s Souls onto PS3 in 2009, they published the first game in the Souls genre. They then published Bloodborne in 2015. Without Sony deciding to publish a difficult game in their home country, we would never even have Elden Ring in the first place. Now Sony and Fromsoft are in the same place (possibly because of protection from a hostile take over attempt) it means a lot of those barriers have been taken away. If this was a mutual agreement there was definitely discussion of producing games specifically for sony

Sony didn't give concord the money, the game was already in development before Sony bought the studio. They actually let them finish the game.

Good thing to think about is that if Miyazaki leaves FromSoftware to create anlther studio great part of, if not all, his staff will leave with him. So if Sony tries to control FS to do as they want, I'm sure Miyazaki won't take any of their shit.

This is a sad day to be sure, but I'm also worried about how anime is potentially going to change. Despite being Japanese, Sony has made a strong connection to the West in its business practices and has made massive changes to cater to a broader Western market. Anime and games have been getting more and more restricted to reach what is claimed to be "acceptable content." Not all, but a lot of games have been suffering from these types of businesses for a few years now, making them feel lacking in authenticity. Now with Sony taking over Kadokawa, especially the publishing side of things, I sadly think anime is going to be facing the same problem. Hopefully not, but my trust in Sony to make the right decisions is nonexistent.
Hopefully Japan will stand strong. The manga is still being published in Japan, right? They aren't huge fans of censorship, so maybe manga will be safe. Very sad about the anime though (although I've heard Sony does control anime publishing sites already, and I haven't seen mass censorship yet).

I really don't think this is as bad for From as ya'll seem to think. What are you on about? Sony was the ones who released the Original release of Demon’s Souls onto PS3 in 2009, they published the first game in the Souls genre. They then published Bloodborne in 2015. Without Sony deciding to publish a difficult game in their home country, we would never even have Elden Ring in the first place. Besides you’re confusing Ubisoft and Bugthesda games for Sony/PlayStation games.

Now Sony and Fromsoft are in the same place (possibly because of protection from a hostile take over attempt) it means a lot of those barriers have been taken away.
If this was a mutual agreement there was definitely discussion of producing games specifically for sony
