Thanks for putting this out there. I paid for a memory improvement kit, paid over 250 bucks..so I could remember anatomy and muscles. I later taught it to my kids for school. It was very similar to yours...the first one was making my whole body the files. Head face neck etc etc and then when we went on to larger needed memory it was a house. Rooms in the house, closets, placing things you needed to remember in those rooms. It's a brilliant trick for our brains!! Thanks again!!

It is very timecomsuming though. Brute force repetition would do the same in shorter time.

I got 8/10. The video really helped me, as I have about 200 things to remember for a maths exam. I realised I can use this method with the flash cards to remember the theory and then do practice papers. I can combine it with a memory palace - so a room per subject, then a-z for each topic within that etc.

I've read about these sorts of tricks before so I had a story about a teddy bear sitting on a desk, walking over to a microphone & tripping over a water bottle into an armchair, there was an orange drink next to it etc etc.

First Time - 1 Second Time - All 10. I was stunned that it worked... and the recall was almost immediate. I have had a problem with short term and long term memory from 1987 when I was 12 years old involved in a major car accident, head injury etc. I have never been able effectively memorize any type of information. I would be interested in other techniques for lectures / reading information and remembering it / and ..."I totally forgot what I was going to say" ...(after 60 seconds) AND remembering Names.

The animal filing system is good, but on the first round I used a story. There was a teddy bear, on a desk, singing into a microphone, water bottle in one hand, spinning on an office chair, while drinking orange juice. Both times I got 8 - so still some work to go. Thanks for a cool exercise!

Same! But 9/10 on the first 10/10 on the second (prolly because I didn’t even hear him say pencil as I was way too stunned by my 9/10 score😅)

“The more outlandish the picture, the better it’s gonna look” - this holds truth.
Such a cool exercise! I pictured each animal using the item in some way to help me remember. By the end of it, it didn’t feel like I was trying to hard to remember but rather, it just came.
First time with just memorizing, I got 7/10, 10/10 for the animal recall, and 10/10 when using his method.

I came across your video since watching last year amongst others over the years.
I'm a Computer Scientist currently working on a dissertation on QM algorithms this has helped alot! Thank you! I had to recall #7 and #8 for a minute but got all 10 correct initially!
It is a matter of Practicing this technique, fine tuning it to fit more relative fimalar list objects to build my file systems per say, but this is quit effective for listing large amounts of information.
With anything though, it does take minimal time to practice and master. I find with something more personal to allocate my list building helps tremendously remember such as numbers( I picture numbers as characters with eyeballs then relate them to marvel comic characters #1 is IronMan just FYI), listing more similar thing in the alphabet as well, more personal to me.
I have been able to expand on this and is very useful. I have also showed this to a few Med students who swear by this when having to remember human anatomy it as well! very intuitive, simple, and effective!
Thought I would give you a shout out thank you!

I tried this because I have to study for history for my exams and I just cannot figure out the right study method. The first time I kept repeating the things I had to remember, which I couldn't do fast enough after number four or so, so I just restarted where my last word ended. I got 6 out of 10, whilst after the exercise I got nine out of ten, because the cheetah I came up with just did not make sense. What i learned, is that making useful memories is actually helpful. It is not about just getting yourself to remember for now, it is about creating long term memory files, which will actually last. Thank you so much. This video was not only educational, it was also very fun to challenge myself! Thank you!!

First time I pictured the items and remembered 9 of them but only 2 were in the right order, second time I did his method and got 10/10 in perfect order!!! I love this one! Learned it so quick and can use it for life. Thanks man :) I didn't even know this was a hypnosis guy, I just needed a mental break, and it sounded interesting and was a short video, so I clicked. BTW - having a very stressful morning here, but that exercise gave my mind a break from all of that and really helped me detach from everything, and that was really cool. Very interesting. I also do hypnosis/NLP, I'm a therapist, and I'm going to use this and learn some more stuff from this guy. I want to open up a support group for coaches afraid of selling or something like that, so I've been researching more stuff lately. I can't wait to check out your other videos! :) Thank You!!

    • @americanschoolofhypnosis

You can use the word and the definition by creating a mental picture with the mental filed item you've chosen in your mental file. Then think on the item and you'll remember the word and definition. Just remember to make the entire scenario outlandish, funny or ridiculous so it will be easier to remember. Try it with a few to see how it works for you. Good luck...

I used a loci point setup that I'm already familiar with for the first run through...so I got 10/10 in order.
The second time...I only got 8/10, but I blame that on me and not the method. I didn't create vivid enough connections with the animals. This method actually seems great. I'm shocked that I haven't heard of it up til now. Thanks for sharing!
I'm already thinking of ways to expand it to file more info. Maybe use the letters a-y (ditching z) so that there is exactly 25 letters per run through (easier to memorize numerical locations in increments of 25 than 26 imo.) And then maybe use more specific categories. Like large mammals a-y, small mammals a-y, reptiles a-y, insects a-y, landmarks or locations a-y, objects a-y...Theres 300 slots off the bat. Do you have any specific method that you use to scale it up past 10?

First time 10(and in order) using another technique of making a story out of it. Second time 8. I've watched a couple of videos on memorizing coz of my exams. (Analytical chemistry has procedures that you need to know in order, )I'm positive I'm going to get it right eventually.

Got 8 to 9. I chose bugs for two different letters (ants and insects) and mixed them up! What a great strategy!

I got 5 the first time and 10 the next time, honestly really surprised lol
Also, how do we scale this up with higher amounts of items needed to memorize? Should I put multiple items in the sentence,or should I make multiple different sentences for each letter?

Eight the first time ( not in order ) and 10 the second time. I have a 20 page speech I must deliver and am so nervous - I keep going blank. Your tips worked so well for items, any ideas to help me with my speech? Thank you!

    • @americanschoolofhypnosis
      @americanschoolofhypnosis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Short term memories such as your speech or things we read are stored in the Alpha brainwave state which is a light state of relaxation. When you're nervous you have difficulty reaching that level and remain in the Beta State which is why you can't remember things.
So step one is to remain relaxed and take a deep breath before beginning.
Next, take the time to imagine each part of your speech as if it were a story being played out by cartoons. Make it bigger than life, outlandish and funny. Be as creative as possible. Once you've done that, sit back relax and see how easy it now is to remember your speech.
I wish you the best with it...
