You are looking at Mississippi with a northern mind, most Mississippians are more concerned with quality of life instead of the " amenities " northerners find so important, by quality l mean the caring ,freindly, honest, hardworking, low crime, atmosphere found in small Mississippi towns,we may not be as sophisticated or wealthy as some, but we are absolutely rich in the things that matter to us

I drive a forklift so it would be impractical for me to try to live in Madison or the nice areas of the Coast because the houses are too high so for me, I got a little house with a few acres in the East Central part of the state near Meridian... Also a great area if you work in the medical field.

Come to Mississippi! We are known for having lower living costs. We have hot summers and severe weather, but the winters are mild and the landscape stays green year-round. If you come to the southern half of the state we also have a lot of great swimholes, creeks with nice white gravel bars along the sides. People make fun of our state for things but there are hidden treasures here if you will just give Mississippi a chance.

You’d be a fool to chase away opportunities for your state. I live in the suburbs of New Orleans and half my coworkers drive from Mississippi because of no good paying jobs. Biloxi has most of the Casinos and has a kind of new Orleans vibe on the houses. They’re close together and there’s a lot of industrial shrimp companies and docks in that area. Ocean springs is bougie, but has a nice small downtown restaurant and bar atmosphere. It’s more neighborhoods and beach areas but, less businesses. They’re right next door to each other though.

That makes you worse than the ones you look down on. EVERY state has a bad side. I've lived all around the world and have seen a variety of customs. The UN didn't visit the state but went solely on Statistics that don't truly represent the State and its residents. The vast majority of the state "issues" arise from politicians NOT the people. I word of advice, which by the way, I base my opinion on a person by their actions and not where they are from or their ethnicity. There are decent, considerate and people of good moral character all over the world. Be very cautious with regards to who will be your neighbors. I lived next to Indian computer engineering students. Ever since they moved in I have been having issues with my Wifi and computer network being hacked. Besides that, they exceeded the occupancy limits, that is the number if people allowed to live in the apartment. Which causes excessive noise at all hours. Additionally they liked having phone conversations outside which usually tends to be in front of other tenants apartments which can cause a disturbance. They were asked not to disturb other tenements but they still kept doing it. When they used the laundry room they leave the clothes in the machines over night and sometimes even days, and do not clean up after themselves once they are done. Additionally, They are not very clean in general. Once an animal did poo near their front door and they never cleaned it up. This attracted flies in my home. It was a mess. Once they finally moved, everything was better. And the fly problem in my home went away. Unfortunately they have some kind of superiority complex where they think they are better than everyone and don't need to be considerate, or respect other people's privacy, and that superiority complex leads them to feel that they don't have to clean AKA pick up after themselves and that they should get everything for free or at a cheap price.

The cost of living is NOT below the national average. A run down 2br house will run you about $1100/m. Crime is high. Mississippi is the poorest state in the country. The acedemic level here is substandard. Unemployment is SUPER high. Im sure there are towns that are pretty nice to live in but where I have been....its nothing to write home about. Dont even get me started on the beaches. They are pretty much a trashcan and the water isnt any better. If you have a choice between here and somewhere else....pick the latter.
