The slider on the basket engages or disengages the drip stop valve. You MUST slide it to the left when brewing without the full carafe or the water will sit in the basket and overflow.
One correction: when ever you are NOT brewing into the carafe, you have to slide the basket switch to the single "coffee cup" mode. This disengages the pause and brew function that interacts with the carafe lid so the basket wont overflow. I too switched from Bonavita and like the OXO so much better. thanks for a great review!
What a God sent this review is. I have been searching for a one cup coffee maker. I was ready to give up. I am ordering this one. You made my day. Thank you so much
Decided to “break up” with my Bonavita, as simple a coffeemaker as can be, but the carafe doesn’t keep coffee hot. Decided to try this OXO...good reviews & some nice features. I like it very much, so far. Am having trouble remembering there’s a slider to change from 2-4 to 6-8! And the lid does dribble a bit..:( Am hoping the carafe keeps coffee hotter longer than my Bonavita did.. Thanks for a nice review!
Have been looking, I think I’m convinced. Like the ability for single-work days when headed out the door and a quality maker. Just wish I could have Alexa turn it on.
It uses "standard" size automatic drip machine filters so any reusable replacement filter for automatic drip should work. You could measure the diameter of the basket to be sure it fits nicely. I feel like there's a bit of variation. But "automatic drip machine" is the right category. 😊
Great video. One question. What filters do you use for 8-12 cups? I'm having trouble finding tall sided filters. I don't want the coffee grounds overflowing the filter
Can you still brew after the 90 day clean reminder comes on? My fear is we are going to need coffee to get out the door in the morning on day 90 and no time to wait 25 mins. for the descale cycle to run. I would imagine there would be lots of negative comments if that stopped the machine from brewing until cleaned, but have to ask.
Hi Nick, thank you for your reviews, they’re too useful. Can you help me, I’m between this one and the Ninja hot and cold. Witch one you will choose? Thanks again
Excellent review of the oxo 8 cup coffee maker. Would you consider making a video where you compare the brew quality of the oxo 8 cup and the moccamaster coffee machines?
I bought a moccamaster and had it for 4 weeks and sent it back. I couldn't get a decent cup of coffee out it. We changed beans, filters, grind size, coffee to water ratio, even tried spring water instead of tap. Not one decent pot of coffee. I've had the OXO for a week. We are still dialing in the coffee to water ratio and grind size to get the "perfect" cup, but from the very fist pot, it's been drinkable. I wouldn't spend the $$ on the moccamaster but others swear by it.
A really nice machine EXCEPT that it’s very difficult to completely drying the carafe after cleaning because water catches the lid lip and can’t drain out completely.
I've noticed this. I guess it's a tradeoff for pouring coffee nicely with the lid on and keeping coffee warm. But hard to get out the very last drop of water. I can live with that. I just put the carafe upside down in the dish rack for a few hours. 😊
How does this coffee maker compare to the taste of a French Press? I'm tempted to buy this 40 oz. Oxo instead of upgrading the size of my French Press.
It tastes more like drip coffee, but very nice drip coffee. If you play with the settings, amount of coffee and grind size, and maybe use a reusable mesh filter, you might be able to come close. Or maybe you'll like it as is. If you lived on my street I'd invite you over to try a cup of mine. 😊
There is a pre-infusion/blooming portion of the brew cycle, so if I remember correctly (I don't brew more than 4 cups most days) that is different. In the 2-4 cups, it takes about a 'cup' worth of water, then stops for a few seconds, then brews the rest. I think in the 5-8 it takes more water for that pre infusion.
I bought this coffee maker, but it just didn't make good coffee. Tried everything, but it tasted awful. After two frustrating weeks, I sent it back to Oxo.
I have been very disappointed in this product. I have tried two different brands of coffee (Starbucks Pike and Rifle company), but both taste the same as if they were one brand. Also the carafe doesn’t keep the coffee hot for long The oxo may look sharp but it doesn’t give me the taste or the heat of a good cup of coffee.
I agree. Very disappointed in the Oxo 8 cup. Coffee tasted just awful no matter which brand I used (Philz, Petes, Trader Joes). After two weeks, I returned it. I now have a Bonavita 5 cup and it does the job perfectly well. Delicious coffee, simple to use and the carafe keeps the coffee much warmer.

I caught that mistake in the video too.

I sent my Oxo back and got a Bonavita, which makes much better coffee than this machine.

I purchased this coffee maker 6 months ago and I'm so pleased with it. Thanks for the review

Great review, welcome back!
Glad you enjoyed it. And yes, it's been a while since we did an equipment review. : )
Is there a reusable filter that fits this model?

Can you pull the pot out while it brews?
What kind of grinder do you use along with this maker? or do you get your beans ground up at the store?

If you put in 40oz but push the half carafe button it will only brew 20 of the 40oz of water you put in, correct?
No. It will brew the entire reservoir. The 2-4 cup button controls how the hot water from the showerhead is dispensed.
Great review. 💘

If the machine just brews all the water, then what’s the difference between the “2-4” and “4-8” buttons on the bottom? Thanks
Probably the speed that the water is pumped through the system.

How long does the coffee stay hot in the carafe?
Depends on what you consider hot.
What is your favorite coffee maker?
I like this one. But I also like my Bonavita BV1800. And the Breville Precision Brewer. My top 3 : )
@@CoffeeDetective thank you for responding!
Is there a Bloom function ?
Nice video fun and informative thank you
It's a good coffee maker but the price has gone up a loy on it over the last year.
