With how the news is headlining this firing and the widely negative response from fans online I have seen Spyglass have three options here and it widely depends on how the remaining legacy cast of Scream react. If the cast does what many fans are calling for and rally around Melissa for support (my preferred option) they will have to James Gunn this and offer her her job back. This could also be achieved with enough fan pressure. Option two is they throw money at Neve Cambell, Patrick Dempsy, Hayden Panettiere, and Courtney Cox until they all agree to return and focus scream 7 solely around them and Sidney and Mark's kids. This could be their preferred option as getting Sidney back MIGHT appease the fanbase enough to not outright boycott the movie. Or three they try and make a catastrophic and desperate attempt to make they movie without Melissa by either killing Sam off screen or (worse) recasting her. Which will lead to a box office bomb of epic propotions and be more hated than any Scream previously. I'd call this the 'Rise of Skywalker' approach. But seeing as a now deleted tweet from the director of scream 7 shows him being upset about thisvas well I am hoping this will end the same way it did with James Gunn
I say scrap the idea of Scream 7. If they can't do it right, don't do it at all. The way that Scream 6 ended, they don't really need to do an immediate sequel anyways. Let some time pass, get everything in order, then come back and do Scream 7, if necessary. I have always loved the art of Scream, and would much rather they don't do anymore Scream movies than to put out bad Scream movies. I don't want Scream to become what Star Wars has become.
Just throwing an idea out there that if I were the filmmakers then I would have a similar looking actor to Melissa play Sam who is in an induced coma after being hit by a car (hit and run). Her face is unrecognizable from the incident. The others have to find out who the next Ghostface is and stop him/her from reaching Sam and killing her permanently. Probably not a great concept but my brain just came up with it haha.

Here's what I think it's going to boil down to, 1. They will rehire Melissa and try and cover this up because of how big the newest Scream reboot of 5 and 6 have been. 4 didnt splash nearly as much. They will save face and rehire her. 2. They will lose Jenna Ortega or parts/most of the core four because the movie doesn't make sense with them without Melissa. They might refuse to do it without her. Jenna Ortega is a big name right now. 3. They will have to totally rewrite Scream 7 to not have anything to do with the Carpenter Sisters and surrounding survivors. They would have to pony up for Neve, and bring in a cast to surround a 5th full Sidney story (good luck on that one) 4. They will replace Melissa with another character and this movie will suck. 5. They will use some deleted Melissa scenes from 5 and 6 with some CGI and do a Terminator Dark Fate opening on Sam Carpenter and this movie will suck. I am hoping this gets patched up and we get back on track for a good seventh entry.

I can think of so many ways to have a Sam free Scream 7. If it takes after Scream 3 and they go to Hollywood, maybe they’re doing a Netflix style documentary focusing on the true story which Gale hints at in Scream 6 and maybe certain people want nothing to do with it - like Sam. There’s one story. Maybe after the events of Scream 6 Sam checks herself into a mental facility to get help. There’s another story. Maybe Tara tells us that’s what happened and then we find out that Tara is the killer in Scream 7 and she killed her sister. There’s another story. Maybe Sam just leaves town again as she’s prone to do. There’s another story. Maybe Sam and Danny have gotten married and similarly to how Sidney was left alone in Scream 6, Tara and co. decide not to bother Sam with what’s going on. Like I said, there are so many possibilities.

She was the strongest of the 'Core 4.' Hands down. It looks like they seriously are going to have to cast Matthew Lillard for this now to generate any interest...and they're going to have to make that casting public which in itself is a huge spoiler for the story of the film lol...

First Sidney now Sam this is INSANELY RIDICULOUS & it says a lot. I feel like there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that we obviously don’t know much about. Like how are they even gonna write her out of the film??? They’d HAVE to bring SIDNEY back if they plan on moving forward with Scream 7 & making it more Sidney focused & end her arch with the proper send off or even have Tara take the lead otherwise don’t ruin the franchise we all love!!! I honestly would be fine with Scream 6 being the last movie we at least got closure with Gale mentioning Sidney’s happy ending, knowing Gale, Kirby, Mindy, Chad, Sam & Tara survived. Don’t ruin this & have it turn out like HALLOWEEN ENDS JUST HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

This is such frustrating news! They need to now just scrap any plans they had for scream 7 and go back to the drawing board, end sams story (annoyingly) with scream 6. My pitch would be bringing back Sidney & mark and having a story centred around them for 7 and make it the final movie

This is not gonna work. The rest of the main cast has supported Palestine just like Melissa, they’re gonna end up dropping this movie sooner or later there’s no way they can go on otherwise it’ll really shock me.
If the Scream writers have guts... they will Kill Sam and make CHAD the killer! In retrospect it will make Scream 6 make more sense as to why Chad and Mindy got pulverized yet somehow survived. It will make for the most compelling story. ❤❤

Here's what I think it's going to boil down to,
1. They will rehire Melissa and try and cover this up because of how big the newest Scream reboot of 5 and 6 have been. 4 didnt splash nearly as much. They will save face and rehire her.
2. They will lose Jenna Ortega or parts/most of the core four because the movie doesn't make sense with them without Melissa. They might refuse to do it without her. Jenna Ortega is a big name right now.
3. They will have to totally rewrite Scream 7 to not have anything to do with the Carpenter Sisters and surrounding survivors. They would have to pony up for Neve, and bring in a cast to surround a 5th full Sidney story (good luck on that one)
4. They will replace Melissa with another character and this movie will suck.
5. They will use some deleted Melissa scenes from 5 and 6 with some CGI and do a Terminator Dark Fate opening on Sam Carpenter and this movie will suck.
I am hoping this gets patched up and we get back on track for a good seventh entry.

I can think of so many ways to have a Sam free Scream 7. If it takes after Scream 3 and they go to Hollywood, maybe they’re doing a Netflix style documentary focusing on the true story which Gale hints at in Scream 6 and maybe certain people want nothing to do with it - like Sam. There’s one story. Maybe after the events of Scream 6 Sam checks herself into a mental facility to get help. There’s another story. Maybe Tara tells us that’s what happened and then we find out that Tara is the killer in Scream 7 and she killed her sister. There’s another story. Maybe Sam just leaves town again as she’s prone to do. There’s another story. Maybe Sam and Danny have gotten married and similarly to how Sidney was left alone in Scream 6, Tara and co. decide not to bother Sam with what’s going on. Like I said, there are so many possibilities.
The thing is that there's no point of Tara killing Sam though. Like they just fixed all of the issues in the last movie

I don’t see this as a bad thing. I know people love the new cast and movies, but they’re just not Scream. They’re glossy slasher flicks made by Scream fans, nothing more. I understand people being frustrated by this, but doesn’t sound like bad news to me.
Honestly, it’s kinda sad to see the franchise in this state. I don’t know how you could make this work. I guess they could always recast Sam and have someone else play her? But still
I don’t want Sydney to come back, I’m just gonna say it right now. Her story is done and I felt like Scream 5 was a pretty good ending for her story.
But without Sam or Sydney… what can you do? My first thoughts go to making Tara or Gale the main stars, but I think you did a pretty good job explaining why Tara wouldn’t work. Idk about Gale tho.
Honestly, it feels like they’re writing themselves into a corner, it would take an absolute miracle for Scream 7 to work now.
