You're right that a reboot is tricky so soon after the previous film. If they're doing a reboot. then the first thing they should do is take a good, long look at what Scream truly is and what it is not so that they do get a reboot right by sticking to true Scream where they should and doing something different where it works better to do that. At the end of the day, they have to do something different and start over because Neve isn't getting any younger. I love her, but she is around the half-century mark now (like me) and a lady that age can't put butts in seats for a horror flick the way someone like Jenna Ortega can. That's a harsh reality of the film world. Starting over is inevitable. They just have to do it right and not fuck around. (I'm looking at you, NOES 2010!)

Gale's got her shoulder injury from the stab she received in the barn. What do you think, Jake?? She had a BRILLIANT IDEA. I dig it.

By the time Scream 7 comes out all this “bad press” will convert to dozens in not hundreds of TH-camrs, journalists, and film critics reviving this drama for clicks, but doing so at a time where it will trigger little to no emotional reaction from fans = free PR. For me Scream 2022 was the first bad Scream movie. Absolutely hate it, and scream 6 is only marginally less awful. Whatever they do, I hope they bring better writers.
Here is the easiest way to make a complete and total reboot. (which i don’t want but... )All you have to do is have a plot that centers around killers that have been inspired by SCREAM. So SCREAM as we know it becomes a movie in the new universe. Simple. And now that SCREAM exist in our world, they can avoid going down the STAB route because STAB does not exist in our world. This is also a way to bring any old characters back as themselves OR as a new character. Think "Wes Cravens New Nightmare" but make it ultra realistic ❤❤❤😊😊😊

Rumor has it Neve has declined to be in the 7th film. It’s not confirmed but if it’s true it’s very telling as to how the rest of the Scream team feels about this new entry. David loves these movies though so it’s possible!
They're not going to reboot it. Creative reboot was a headline from Variety. Creative reboot doesn't mean... Series reboot. Scream 7 will be a new story but still in the same continuity. It'll be a direct sequal to 5 and 6. Neve and Courtney will be back with some new characters.
I did not like the "Core Four" at all. Sam had a connection to Billy, which was cool, and likeable for that reason. Tara had a great opening act in Scream 6, but I did not like her character after that. Chad and Mindy were just boring and flat to me. I hope we get some new characters that really appeal to the fans.

With Melissa and Jenna out, and Neve also potentially out I do think there’s a way we get a good movie. Here’s my pitch: Leslie Macher is the central character. Sidney’s children are high school age and they are the Ghostface killers, but we don’t know they are her kids until the reveal at the end - kinda like Quinn and Ethan in 6. This time, Ghostface wins and gets away with it. Leslie does not survive.
Remember the Scream TV series was completely different and still has a cult following! I personally found it (at least the first 2 seasons) to be pretty good! So you never know! It sucks that it had to go down this way but in the end its all about money so theyre going to whatever they want regardless of whats actually right 🤷🏻♂️
Go back and do prequel, before the original. Follow young Roman (🤢) or Billy leading up to Maureen’s murder. We ASSUMED that Maureen was the first kill, but that’s not necessarily the case. Maybe Roman killed others. Maybe Billy did. That way you’re still staying in the same canon, adding to the history, and potentially could set up for future sequels once the dust settles on all of this. Could introduce Christina in some way there too. Just a thought

Good riddance to the "Core 4" I probably wouldn't have seen another movie with the same actors. Maybe they will leave the politics out it this time. I can't say I want to see Sydnee return either thou. Starting fresh and simple is probably the only way I'll go to the movies for this. Here is an idea, make us care about the characters like Godzilla minus one did.
I don't think that this is the "last nail" for Scream the franchise is a popular I.P. I say that whatever the new "reboot" of Scream 7 is let it bomb so that Spyglass might put it up for another studio to buy. The studio has been crystal clear they don't care about keeping the die-hard fans happy or respecting their beloved cast by the fans as already stated they didn't need Neve they don't need Jenna. That's two strikes I think that we've seen enough to get a rough idea of how Spyglass operates if their latest Scream film flops in 2025 i'm sure that they will put Scream up for sale.
Slow down there, cowboy. I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself. I fully support a reboot for scream, especially if it stays away from pandering to younger generations. Meaning the victims and core characters can be young, but I want the characters to feel timeless and witty, as opposed to the young characters of today that feel derivative or cookie cutter. The 5th and 6th movie gave us the core four, who I find to be the two things I just mentioned - derivative and cookie cutter. Also, a little pretentious. Anyways, none of their characters dying is a perfect illustration of how they weren't written with any gull. They don't say anything even halfway out there and therefore feel boring. None of the sequels have ever come close to the OG, so let's do a full reset and try to create some characters that evoke emotion, who are funny, and who aren't the stereotypical strong female protagonist. The reason Sydney is so good in the first one is because she balances her vulnerability with being a badass. For example, if she would have busted out of the bathroom stall when she overheard those two girls talking about her, that would have hindered her character. Her staying silent in the stall made us feel for her. Today's movies wouldn't be written like that. As for Jenna Ortega, I don't think she is an A-lister. She's certainly an It Girl, but so was/is Sydney Sweeney. To be an A-lister, you have to show some serious chops in acting and it helps if you've done an movie where you were the solo lead. I've seen most things Ortega has been in, and while she's adequate, she is nowhere near the level fans act like she's at. I am very aware she's acting in Wednesday, which to me means it doesn't feel natural. The hospital scene in Scream 5 was her best performance in the series but outside that I don't think she does anything to stand out.

Getting his dream job to direct a Scream film, then the two leads aren't there. Here's me hoping that while Spyglass became a cancer for the movies, that Paramount is working on returning the MTV Series to feed us Scream fandom with something positive and continue the Lakewood story. I'd kill to see The Lakewood Four again. Paramount just got the rights from VH1. So here's me hoping.

Rumor has it Neve has declined to be in the 7th film. It’s not confirmed but if it’s true it’s very telling as to how the rest of the Scream team feels about this new entry. David loves these movies though so it’s possible!
They're not going to reboot it. Creative reboot was a headline from Variety. Creative reboot doesn't mean... Series reboot. Scream 7 will be a new story but still in the same continuity. It'll be a direct sequal to 5 and 6. Neve and Courtney will be back with some new characters.

I did not like the "Core Four" at all. Sam had a connection to Billy, which was cool, and likeable for that reason. Tara had a great opening act in Scream 6, but I did not like her character after that. Chad and Mindy were just boring and flat to me. I hope we get some new characters that really appeal to the fans.

With Melissa and Jenna out, and Neve also potentially out I do think there’s a way we get a good movie. Here’s my pitch: Leslie Macher is the central character. Sidney’s children are high school age and they are the Ghostface killers, but we don’t know they are her kids until the reveal at the end - kinda like Quinn and Ethan in 6. This time, Ghostface wins and gets away with it. Leslie does not survive.
And their motivation is…? What? Revenge? Revenge Of what? 🥱🥱

Remember the Scream TV series was completely different and still has a cult following! I personally found it (at least the first 2 seasons) to be pretty good! So you never know! It sucks that it had to go down this way but in the end its all about money so theyre going to whatever they want regardless of whats actually right 🤷🏻♂️

Go back and do prequel, before the original. Follow young Roman (🤢) or Billy leading up to Maureen’s murder. We ASSUMED that Maureen was the first kill, but that’s not necessarily the case. Maybe Roman killed others. Maybe Billy did. That way you’re still staying in the same canon, adding to the history, and potentially could set up for future sequels once the dust settles on all of this. Could introduce Christina in some way there too.

I agree 100% with you on this Jake. With Thanksgiving being greenlighted for a sequel. Scream 7 maybe pushed back. I don't think it would be smart to rush a "reboot."

Good riddance to the "Core 4" I probably wouldn't have seen another movie with the same actors. Maybe they will leave the politics out it this time. I can't say I want to see Sydnee return either thou. Starting fresh and simple is probably the only way I'll go to the movies for this. Here is an idea, make us care about the characters like Godzilla minus one did.
I don't think that this is the "last nail" for Scream the franchise is a popular I.P. I say that whatever the new "reboot" of Scream 7 is let it bomb so that Spyglass might put it up for another studio to buy. The studio has been crystal clear they don't care about keeping the die-hard fans happy or respecting their beloved cast by the fans as already stated they didn't need Neve they don't need Jenna. That's two strikes I think that we've seen enough to get a rough idea of how Spyglass operates if their latest Scream film flops in 2025 i'm sure that they will put Scream up for sale.

Slow down there, cowboy. I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself. I fully support a reboot for scream, especially if it stays away from pandering to younger generations. Meaning the victims and core characters can be young, but I want the characters to feel timeless and witty, as opposed to the young characters of today that feel derivative or cookie cutter. The 5th and 6th movie gave us the core four, who I find to be the two things I just mentioned - derivative and cookie cutter. Also, a little pretentious. Anyways, none of their characters dying is a perfect illustration of how they weren't written with any gull. They don't say anything even halfway out there and therefore feel boring. None of the sequels have ever come close to the OG, so let's do a full reset and try to create some characters that evoke emotion, who are funny, and who aren't the stereotypical strong female protagonist. The reason Sydney is so good in the first one is because she balances her vulnerability with being a badass. For example, if she would have busted out of the bathroom stall when she overheard those two girls talking about her, that would have hindered her character. Her staying silent in the stall made us feel for her. Today's movies wouldn't be written like that. As for Jenna Ortega, I don't think she is an A-lister. She's certainly an It Girl, but so was/is Sydney Sweeney. To be an A-lister, you have to show some serious chops in acting and it helps if you've done an movie where you were the solo lead. I've seen most things Ortega has been in, and while she's adequate, she is nowhere near the level fans act like she's at. I am very aware she's acting in Wednesday, which to me means it doesn't feel natural. The hospital scene in Scream 5 was her best performance in the series but outside that I don't think she does anything to stand out.

Wes Craven would be shaking his head right now. Jenna Ortega was the reason I was so invested in Scream 5-6. I feel so bad for Landon. Getting his dream job to direct a Scream film, then the two leads aren't there. Here's me hoping that while Spyglass became a cancer for the movies, that Paramount is working on returning the MTV Series to feed us Scream fandom with something positive and continue the Lakewood story. I'd kill to see The Lakewood Four again. Paramount just got the rights from VH1. So here's me hoping.
