I can't believe the singular beauty that there is there !! I don't like the cold but I will go to the Norway for cherish those landscapes that give me peace and calm !
Hello Maria, I have watched all your videos in about 2 months time and just love them! The incredible beauty you capture and your peaceful voice give me a sense of calm and peace. I grew up in Seattle and the forest scenes remind me of home and I can understand why my Nordic ancestors emigrated there. I have lived in California since my teens, but still the forest calls to me. My name, Keith, means forest dweller in Scots Gaelic. I don’t think my mother knew that, but it is very appropriate. It always feels like home to me. I enjoy the rain I grew up with and the snow for a couple of weeks every winter and I miss that. Northern California just doesn’t have the same distinct seasons. But it is much too late to move with family and friends all rooted in the Bay Area, I am 74 now and single after losing my wife 15 years ago. I admire greatly your cinematic eye and your ability to capture beauty. That has been a thread in my own life documenting my extended family on video since 1980. As a young boy I wanted to be a TV cameraman, but the demands of raising a family changed that, but photography remains a way to express having a “good eye” for seeing beauty. In 2019 I took an expedition ship up the coast of Norway and was overwhelmed by the constant beauty! You are so lucky to live there! I think it is the most beautiful of the 31 countries I have visited! I love your videos! You are my favorite on TH-cam! Please don’t stop! You give me joy! Keith Petterson
I have lived both in Trømso and Kirkenes and have visited Bugøynes and Senja, what magnificent places... there is just something about the Arctic, the feeling that you are at the end of the world, so isolated and quiet. A place where your soul is at rest. Thank you for taking me there again 💙
Well done Maria on producing another excellent video. You have really had a wonderful tour, and it is so kind of you to devote so much of your time to enabling us all to share the journey and spectacular scenery with you. I would never have expected so much civilisation to have existed in such remote places. Norway and her people are truly remarkable.
Thank you Mark :-). Yes it actually feels very surprising to me as well, being up there. Some of the towns date back from 1700s and the Sami people were there long before that. Tough people they must have been, surviving in that rough climate.
I think it can be both really special and really tough honestly. At least from speaking to friends who grew up there that is my impression. Thank you so much for watching
I've been to Bugøynes this 12th of December and it was amazing, with the snow and the amazing blue water. And also the northern lights ending this beautiful day

I thought I recognised some of the places in your intro, and I’m pretty sure at 19:01 is Gildetun, Kvænangsfjellet. My family is from Kvænangen, and I was born there, although we moved when I was pretty young. Now I live in Tromsø, but I still visit my grandmother often in Sørstraumen. It is a very beautiful place, and I definitely recommend going there in the summer. It is just incredible to go on hikes in the evenings with the midnight sun, and sometimes you can even spot reindeer from quite up close. I really enjoyed this video, it was so calming and I got really absorbed in it. Hope you had a nice trip in the north, and hope you’ll visit again! 😊

Aww, I am so thankful you have been here all along. It really means a lot to have the kind people like you following the whole journey. This life is crazy sometimes
Hammerfest used to be the Northernmost town in the world, until Honningsvåg got its official "bystatus" in 1996, right before a change in the Norwegian laws that requires a municipality to have at least 5000 inhabitants. Snuck its way in right as the door was closing, having less than half the required number of people by today's laws, a law that went in to effect a month or so after the municipality declared its own village, a town :) Has been quite a bit of debate and argument around this, as it was one of the major tourist brandings Hammerfest used, and to this day, still uses, but less commonly.
Congratulations 🎉 a well deserved new high point on YT. Your videos are something to look forward to. Im so grateful you take us with you on your adventures 😊 with love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

It was fantastic to see it again and hear your wonderful description. Arctic Norway is beautiful and your videos have done it justice.

Beautiful travel video! 27:10 are those seed pods of Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus spp., Engkallslekta in Norwegian)? People in the UK sow this species into grass-rich areas to turn them into more of a flower meadow. Not a rarity but since you mentioned your interest in botany!
I was hoping they miiiight be the pods of Polarflokk, the rare plant we were looking for, as it was growing from where the Polarflokk leaves were in some places. So glad you like my music choices, it really takes a while! I get comments from people hating the music too so I guess its about taste as well :-). Oh Maria, since you announced that you and Bendik were going back to the north I have been looking forward to this video, and it did not disappoint. It did not come up in my feed, but tonight I decided to look to see if you had posted anything yet, and here it was! Wow! What beautiful places you have shown us! Just an amazing tour. You are fortunate that you were able to travel to these places in your work. Senja was quite amazing. Bugøynes reminds me of so many of the tiny outports in Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada. Tromsø really is spectacular! Much larger than I would have expected, and I had never heard that it is called the "Paris of the North." You must have been so happy to get home after all that travelling and teaching. Jeg onsker deg og Bendik en God Jul og Godt Nyttar (don't know how to get the different letters on my computer - just copied and pasted your names for the towns!) and I look forward to seeing what's next for you in 2024! Thanks for a lovely year of videos!
So glad you liked it! I have had some people say it did not come up in their feed. I think TH-cam no longer shows you videos from people you follow unless the algorithm considers the video to be a good fit. If you click the bell though you will be notified I think 🤔. I feel fortunate too that I was able to see all of these places ♡♡. God jul og godt nyttår til deg også! Thank you for watching and following along in 2023♡ Lots of love from me
@Mariaandtheforest The ridiculous TH-cam algorithms are a pain in the neck. What does IT know about a good fit? 🤦♀️ Really annoying. But I will keep looking for you. I mentioned you on a FB group that is for people of Norwegian descent living in North America. One person who posted was from Tromsø originally, now living in the Oslo area, so I mentioned your recent video. Perhaps others will pick up on it. 🤞 Sending lots of love and hugs and wishes for a really good 2024 for you guys! 💝💝💝🥰
We had a wonderful trip - in 2015? - visiting a number of towns in northern Norway in the early autumn - as part of a larger trip that also saw other major cities on the west coast. Northern places we visited included Tromsø, Kilpisjärvi (Finland), Alta, Karasjok (to see Sámi Parliament - wife and I given nice spontaneous tour by librarian) , and Honnigsvåg and we drove to Gjesvær and did some tourist hikes/stops. The people were wonderful, the scenery was great - especially the drive from Tromsø to Kilpisjärvi and the hiking around Gjesvær and Kilpisjärvi . But I'm glad we skipped Hammerfest - the claims the city makes plus all the 'polar bears' would turn me off. If you land at the airport in Yellowknife, Canada you are greeted by an out-of-place taxidermists' polar bear far far distant from where one exists but at least Yellowknife is the capital of a jurisdiction with lots of polar bears. It was really interesting to see your northern scenery with more winter snow than we saw - a special beauty of the season.
That sounds like an amazing trip! I hope to see Karasjok one day too. I have only been to Kautokeino. Lions are also used as a coat of arms in Norway, so I don't know how accurate people were about the animals and their natural habitats when they chose these things back in the day 😂. I didn't mind it in Hammerfest, I think it makes sense given the history of the town.
You make a really great point about lions! I hadn't thought of that. So the folks going with unicorns are taking it to another level? lol Thanks for the great thought. I'm switched on now, not turned off!
Many of your videos have been cut to one minute or less! What happened?? I started watching from your first videos and got to story 20 or so. I want to keep watching in order!
That is most likely my shorts that are small snippets from my videos! The full video is still there on the channel 😊. In my playlist "vlogs" you should be able to watch from the beginning! I no longer put numbers on the videos. But maybe I should 🤔
Guys what is the time of the year there? Is it spring or winter? Asking as wonder how Nordic roads would look like, how snowy / drivable they would be in winter
Nei, vi kaller Hammerfest den nordligste 'city', ikke 'town'. Og det er visstnok fordi en by er definert av en befolkning på over 10 000 som vi har! Takk for en fin tur med begge to 😀
Ja, det sto på info-plakaten i Hammerfest "the northernmost town in the world". Veldig kult.
@@maumaumau59 Generally a town is "bygd" in norwegian. If it feels more like a tiny village you would call it "landsby". Its complicated though with what to call each place, some places have been named city and then gone back to town and vise versa. Also the limit to call your town a city is only 5000 inhabitants. So it can all be a bit confusing x).
Thanks for the question@@maumaumau59. In Norwegian it is difficult to distinguish, 'by' is used for town or city. But you could say småby eller landsby, kanskje ? Jeg vet det ikke, beklager 😂

Det samme! Så kult at du likte akkurat det øyeblikket, jeg syns også det var en veldig spesiell stemning der med all snøen.
I feel that longing so often haha! But I also love the south where we live. So glad you like my music choices, it really takes a while! I get comments from people hating the music too so I guess its about taste as well :-).
We teach wild edible plants knowledge in relation to cultural heritage :-). And we also teach paper making. We tour with two different projects basically, depending on what the municipality wants.
God jul og godt nyttår
That was fun to watch! Thanks for showing us around this beautiful part of Norway. I've added a few things to my list for a future trip there.
So glad you enjoyed it! Nice! The list just gets longer the more I travel there I feel like. So much to see :-)
@@Mariaandtheforest Hope I can visit Norway it's so beautiful love from India
Wow, wonderful!
Many thanks!
Magical scenery 😊
Thank you so much!
Wow, tusen takk for video.
Tusen takk for at du så den
inspirerende film, Maria! Bra slutt, haha!
Takk mor
I will be visiting Norway for the first time this month, I'm excited! How are the grape seeds used, those ones that you found in the art store?
Honestly I have no idea, haha. That is why I found it funny. Maybe someone else here knows and can write it in the comments. Wishing you a wonderful trip to Norway!
@@Mariaandtheforest Thank you! I went to Bergen for a few days and it really was as magical as you showed it in one of your videos, even with the rain. Highly recommend it to others.
Impeccable video
Thank you
It’s obvious you really love your man. You embrace him, you lean on him, you look to him…,have you ever thought of what your life would be without him???? Would you travel? Live where you do? Travel as you do?
Yes, he means a lot to me :-)
Wow, so beautiful places. Thank you Maria for this video. I also would like to see the same places. ❤ Have wonderful week you both. ❤ Regards from Finland countryside 🌲🎄🏠🧑🎄🌲 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!❄️🤍❄️🤍❄️🤍❄️
Thank you dear Mia
It is actually 03.00 in the night! The sun never sets at night in northern norway in the summer :-9 It is pretty crazy!
Thank you, I am glad you liked the video
Thank you Maria! ❤️
❤❤❤ thank you so much for doing that. Merry christmas!
@@Mariaandtheforest My pleasure!
20:20 but now they wanna destroy it with windmills🤯😢😩
😢😢
Looking at the release date for the video, Troms & Finnmark was a single county, but since the new year we're back to 2 counties.
Indeed
@@Blind_of_Colour haha unicorns are for sure another level 😂😂
❤
Flott video 🙂👍
Takk!
@@Mariaandtheforest 👍
Many of your videos have been cut to one minute or less! What happened?? I started watching from your first videos and got to story 20 or so. I want to keep watching in order!
That is most likely my shorts that are small snippets from my videos! The full video is still there on the channel 😊. In my playlist "vlogs" you should be able to watch from the beginning! I no longer put numbers on the videos. But maybe I should 🤔
Thank you so much for covering Norway's Northernmost
Would love to do it anytime, its so beautiful!
Guys what is the time of the year there? Is it spring or winter? Asking as wonder how Nordic roads would look like, how snowy / drivable they would be in winter
Oktober! But it can be very different from year to year of course.
En gang ender du kanskje opp på Svalbard ;)
Håper det!
Yarrow, what do you use it for?
spice in food and also for tea :-)
❤❤❤
😍
Would you say this is Viking country?
No, I would say it is sami country :-)

Takk Birk! Tror det må være den snilleste kommentaren hittil!
Very nice landscape but BLOODY HELL CLEAN YOUR LENS
Next time 😜
I lived in the north and I escaped after 2 years.....
😂
Nei, vi kaller Hammerfest den nordligste 'city', ikke 'town'. Og det er visstnok fordi en by er definert av en befolkning på over 10 000 som vi har! Takk for en fin tur med begge to 😀
Ja, det sto på info-plakaten i Hammerfest "the northernmost town in the world". Veldig kult.
@twowildfeet9906 What's the Norwegian word you would use for a place with less than 10000 people?
@@maumaumau59 Generally a town is "bygd" in norwegian. If it feels more like a tiny village you would call it "landsby".
Its complicated though with what to call each place, some places have been named city and then gone back to town and vise versa. Also the limit to call your town a city is only 5000 inhabitants. So it can all be a bit confusing x).
Thanks for the question@@maumaumau59. In Norwegian it is difficult to distinguish, 'by' is used for town or city. But you could say småby eller landsby, kanskje ? Jeg vet det ikke, beklager 😂
Ja, det er mange forskjellige ideer. Haha, og noen få konkurrenter om tittelen! Honningsvåg tror jeg vil hevde det også@@Mariaandtheforest
