These are the most realistic birch trees I have seen. I am just learning to paint, so I have studied no less than six videos of artist's birch trees. Just getting to the part after the trunks are drawn... is that just a really faint bit of black you are going over them with?

yes use black, when the white color on the trunk has not dried, so there will be mixing, but you need to play the pressure on the brush to achieve the color you want, actually like shading the edges of a trunk to create a shadow area, hope you get what I mean my friend , happy painting😊🙏

Hi dear, background was coated with black gesso, but you can also using pthalo green, happy painting😊🙏

I did use sponge, for background i didnt use any green, only medium yellow, but you can add some sap green to create nice gradation, happy painting and have a nice weekend 🥰🙏✌️

The background with black gesso, after you put the yellow media with the sponge it will create a greenish effect because the yellow color fades against the black background after the yellow color in the sponge is reduced, happy painting dear🙏😊
