My favourite Richard Countdown moment is still when he realized the final Conundrum wasn't going to score them enough points to win and he just got up to leave the show early instead.
I love that this is all Richard being terrible at words and numbers, and then in the middle a maths genius out of nowhere and still doesn't get any points.
“He did the mathematical equivalent of a wheelie and you got a puncture…” I haven’t laughed that hard since “that’s a challenging wank!”😂. Even in death he kills me. R.I.P. Sean Lock.
Im pretty sure he realises hes invited to countdown to entertain and bring viewership and does exactly that. Plus hes easily one of the more memorable people on countdown, Im sure its helped his career greatly in terms of book sales and opportunities, maybe worth a little more than the countdown teapot. But thats just me guessing.
I love how Richard looks like he'd win every game of countdown, and even plays that in the IT crowd episode. But in reality, he's pretty hopeless 😂 Oh I love him.
"Richard looks like he'd win every game of Countdown," that's very prejudicial, what does a Countdown winner look like, that gloriously broad demographic?
Richard is in a no-win situation. The expectations for him are so high because of that famous episode of “The IT Crowd” where his character is a Countdown genius. There is no way to live up to that. Still extremely funny though.
yknow, richard is very smart but that doesn't actually guarantee that he's good at fast mental math/arranging letters in a high-pressure environment. like that's not one to one. yet for some reason i'm convinced that he is secretly good at countdown and just... chooses chaos.
I've always liked Richard Ayoade but I do wish he'd try a little harder on the show. Most comedians tend to make a real effort while still being funny, but when it comes to Richard, it almost feels like he's cultivated his nerd persona so heavily that he's afraid he'd lose even if he tried and so does less than half assing it lol
@@dontcallmegus I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm saying I think his feigned disinterest makes him loop back around to being significantly more 'try-hard' than anybody else. It actually makes him appear stupid. All the best panellists on the show all manage to be consistently funny while still playing the game. Why can't he? It's not actually because he doesn't care. That's the act. It's because he does actually care and he's insecure in his character if he fails. He doesn't want to lose so he doesn't play. He does care about the result if he were to play genuinely, so he doesn't. It's insecure.
I do understand your idea, I just disagree. I think he's just trolling everyone because he literally doesn't care. To me, it looks like he's just going "Why would I even try at something so benign?" like it's beneath him, which from what I know about him, seems to fit his personality. But I get what you're saying, too!
i think steroids counts! i mean considering that hoisters counts, and anyways steroids is probs said more than "steroid" if you think about it. i put the letters in an anagram solver and kicked myself when i saw that...
The "Delightful news for someone who cares." really sums up Richard's way of thinking about Countdown. 😅

Classic Rob innit?
As a programmer, off-by-1 errors are understandable.

Uses powers 2 and 3. Is a mathematical genius. Welcome to current year education.

Rather appropriate considering Rachel’s ongoing feud with Jeremy Corbyn’s mob.

100/25=4+7+9=20-1=19*10=190 (yes I did think you had to use all the numbers)
I did this - after firstly panicking, then realizing 100+9*10 is the answer and then thought like this:
100/25=4
7 + 4 - 1 = 10
10+9 = 19
10*19=190
25+1 is 26, 26-7 is 19, 19×10 is 190 (assuming not all numbers are needed)
