Here in Europe we are no longer required to turn on airplane mode even when the airliners asks you to because phone signals in Europe operate on different signal strengths
Congratulations, for the first time in history it seems y'all could finally stop licking our asses
Even in the USA it doesn't really interfere during the bulk of the flight, but they like to sell you Internet access.
@@tobybartels8426 Thats not necessarily true, the altitude indicator and your phones reception signal operate on signal strengths right next to each other and can interfere with each other
@@tastytizzler1383no they don’t. They’re completely different forms and sizes of waves. Phones (in theory could) interfere with ATC communication.
@@ryan_alexander no you're almost wrong, while the plane and phone don't have the same signal wave the signal wave of the altitude sensor starts right next to the phones max signal wave, i mean some thing like this:
3-4ghz|4-5ghz (3-4 is phone, 4-5 is sensor).

It's important to note that this is mainly in the US. In the UK and EU you don't need to do it because the frequencies of their radio towers and the frequencies of your phone don't cross and cause problems.
Few phones won't do anything to a 100 million dollar radar.
2020: in China you would be arrested for 5 days
2030: in UK you would be arrested for 5 years
It depends actually
These frequencies are the same for US aircraft.
Today's cell phones use an AM frequency. Older phones used an FM frequency, which did screw with the airplanes radio.
@@Eric-gi9kg Actually you'll find modern phones don't use either. Planes, however, use AM, which is far more susceptible to interference.
That does beg the question why they don't update plane radios, but I'm no expert in that field so maybe there is a reason.

Cell towers hardly affect Aircraft radio transmissions. They’re two completely different types of wavelength and signal. Most planes even have on-board WiFi, which would be a serious problem in the air if pilots couldn’t communicate to the ground, but fear not, because they can. The reason they say this is to get you to listen to their safety briefing, as well as put away any large electronics, such as a laptop which could physically injure you
Isnt because your phone searches for a bigger signal which could disrupt wifi on the ground?
also if lots of devices connect to 1 cell tower it can cause stress and cause damages to it which can be expensive to fix the on board wifi also connects to cell towers but because its only 1 device it won't cause that much stress
@@bluetoadmaker I flight 4 times (8 times if u counting return) airplane mode is bs, you won't get blame unless they see you scrolling through instagram or using whatsap, also they have big signal wall (idk the name in english sorry) when they activate it you hardly get any signal even on land
Forgot to tell you that's only for big planes, i need to go to madrid from malaga first, that plane is small and you can even have signal flying, is bs to pay money for a 45 minutes flight, and even of the plane to america it's bs too, like to listen to music i have to pay 30 euros, what? that's what cost me 1gb up and down on my house for the month, the basic package is only whatsap.
So you are better off just downloading the music from youtube music and your video for netflix etc,
If anyone will get at me it's not like i'm using without airplane all the time, rather when i'm landing in my destination since where i go i only know one person, so i check if my roaming is working, if not i'm big screw cause if my partner doesn't come for some reason, i have no internet whatsoever

That's a Faraday cage. Airplane fuselages are Faraday cages, meaning they are very good at keeping electricity and waves from getting in and out. There is nothing to turn on or off, it is an inherent property of aircraft fuselages.

Mike really is the best content creator, the fact he's a lawyer makes it even more crazy. 😂
Mike is so commited to his work . Nice work man🎉
It may be disorderly conduct but it doesn’t interfere with the flight communications. Nowadays it’s more a problem of jamming or overwhelming cell tower bandwidth when large groups of people on commercial planes leave or arrive at whatever location
its still a good idea to turn it on though so your phone doesnt waste battery repeatedly trying to get service
What if your phone doesn't even have data to begin with?
@@masterjunkoOh, you have Verizon too?
300 people isn’t going to clog up a cell tower. They don’t ask you to put your phone in airplane mode when you get on the interstate or ride a bus.
Mike is always there whenever they dont know if it's a crime
Maybe if they didn't land planes first, before kicking out passangers, more people would listen to rules🤔
ЧЁЁЁ хирост привет!
That is only bc the US (and a few other nations) use cell signals that are very close to airplane comms signals with no buffer gap, meaning there is a *chance* of interference.
Apparently in Europe they dont have this regulation bc they use signal spectrums that are not next to or overlapping, they have a buffer which allows them to use phones more freely without airplane mode.
Or so I have heard....
If it was a serious risk they wouldn't just hope you comply, they'd check or confiscate your phones, if it was a real risk they'd be worried about a terrorist attack of... A few guys refusing to put their phones in airplane mode?
It's not real.
That’s a lot of bullshit for you to type out. Cells phones can in no possible way effect airplane communications. They aren’t even in the same spectrum. The reason they say it.. it’s to ensure you listen to the seatbelt lesson they give before every flight. Nothing more than that.. both you and this lawyer are full of complete shit. LOL a buffer gap..
@@jackmcdonald128 It's just a mild chance that the frequencies CAN interfere... IF that particular phone operates on the frequency closest to the FAA frequencies, and that plane also happens to operate on that frequency border... The chances are super slim, but it IS possible.
Saying that it isn't real is like saying that just because you haven't had the experience then shark attacks aren't real... or that all modern subs are too well made to be crushed. It is a matter of circumstance and many factors... just bc chances are near-zero doesn't mean they are zero.
@@firechicken2011 I called it a "buffer gap" for simplicity. If you do just a little research you will see how close the frequencies are for yourself...
I am not saying that Joe Smith's phone is definitely going to crash a plane. But it is possible that the radar may not update properly, static on the radio, etc. It is not likely that 1 phone will cause any severe interference, what they are attempting to do is mitigate the possibility of numerous cheap phones compounding the effect...
"Shark attacks mostly happen in shallow water" bc that is where the people are... that doesn't mean there are no shark attacks in open water. If more people go with cheap Chinese phones to save money, there might be more bad frequency offenders and then more interference.
I'm not even saying that is the best way to handle such a situation; the FAA could abandon those frequencies and require all old planes to be updated to be on the new spectrum; all I was doing was giving a brief exposition as to why the "rule" is in place. Not here to debate it's odds of happening vs the annoyance to passengers; and whether that is sufficient to be enforced, and how.
@@firechicken2011Bro you clearly have no knowledge of the subject. Sure, most of the time it won’t cause a problem. But depending on what the phone is doing/if it is damaged, it can mess with some signals. Again, it depends on the situation
Let him have it! He ain't gonna listen!
that fight attendant is going to a club after they land dressed like that 💀
I learned it's not because of the aircraft hardware/software interference, but because of cell phones on the flight attempting to connect to each tower they pass while in route, which takes up bandwidth that can hinder or diminish the quality of connection between those involved in emergencies and their calls to emergency responders on the ground.
Sounds like a them problem
@@kyle019 yeah and then it’s gonna become a you problem if you’re in that situation

It’s actually been proven that personal electronic devices will not interfere with the planes radio because they operate in two completely different radio wavelengths that cannot intercept.
I think it has to do with the altimeter and its frequency
@@ahumanbeing-m2l If true, and it might be, there would be more interference from people driving past the airport than from people on the plane.
Until I see scientific proof otherwise, this is what I believe. Because, what happens if someone who actually has bad intentions gets on the plane if it’s that easy to take down?
Pfft, haha, "proven".
If phones had any influence on the plane, they would have been taken away at the airport entrance instead of asking everyone to switch to aeroplane mode on the plane.
@@fwelton well the risk is fairly low and people outside the airport tend to be far enough, but if everyone in the plane is using their phones then the frequency may interfere with the altimeter, which is vital

Love your videos, but let's be real: no airline (in the U.S., at least) is grounding a flight because the passenger refused to put on airplane mode, nor would anyone be arrested for that alone. In the first case, it would be very expensive and complicated logistically to ground a flight and have to potentially rebook many passengers.
As far as being arrested? That would only happen if the passenger became physically abusive or extremely temperamental.
Serious Fact: Your phone will act like a radio jammer in the air as you fly at subsonic speed, because the plane move so fast, the phone will transmit the strongest signal it can possibly do, it'll drain the phone battery faster, and also disrupt cell tower signal.
You can be arrested, yes, but the phones DO NOT interfere with the electronics of the airplane, and this was tested by boing long time ago. Its actually suspected that for the last 20+ years there has been no problem, so literally Cell Phones never has to have airplane mode for a real reason.
What it might save you is some battery, because the phone will try to connect to the cell towers and as its harder to establish a connection it will waste more energy on doing it, so turning on airplane mode is more for your self benefit rather than what most people think.
This guy is a good version of better call saul 😂
Better call mike
I don't even think we NEED to do this anymore. Cell signal don't interfere with theirs. It would probably take everyone on the plane using a laptop to watch a stream or make a zoom call to actually cause a problem.
"Disorderly conduct" is what people use when they have nothing to pin you with.
I wouldn't call purposefully going against flight safety regulations nothing...

Mike at the end is literally us when we're trying to sleep but our siblings won't stop making noise.
"Risk of signal interfering with airplane equipment" is such bs that hasn't been a concern for decades
When flying low over cities the phone attempts to connect with multiple towers which go out of range very quickly. The result is that the phone is transmitting digitally at high power, which _does_ cause difficulty to some frequencies used by the pilot just before landing or after takeoff. Not BS, just exaggerated; unless _everyone_ leaves their phone on.
It could interfere with the altimeter and thb if I could have only one instrument work on a aplane I would chose the altimeter
While chances are low it very much is a real thing even today in the US, in Europe they solved this problem by putting mobile frequencies on a lower, completely separate frequency band to avoid this type of interference completely.

The thing is, this can only really happen in America. Because of the radio wave frequencies in the USA, your cellphone can interfere with the air traffic control messages. However, in Europe, the frequencies between cellphone signal to ATC signal has a wide enough gap where it does not interfere. Some european airlines have even disabled the warning.
