I had the unfortunate experience of coming across a tik tok of a man taking his own life. It was very graphic and even tho it was months ago I can still see it clearly. I can't imagine what these moderators see on a daily basis and what toll that must take on their mental health.

Big Companies are focused on AI because they don't want to have to deal with having to pay for real people because real people complained when they feel mistreated but robots won't.

It's also traumatizing for people having to see so much death and violence. The corporations (or more accurately their "contractors") are notorious for not providing the breaks of work and therapeutic counseling needed for workers who see more sickening events in a work week than most soldiers encounter in their entire career.

Free speech makes perfect sense if you're strong enough to not let the audio coming from someone's mouth equate to gas chambers. People are just afraid emotionally incontinent wrecks. No strength in men anymore. So some mean things are said once in a while, so what. Get over it. Only alternative is to police people in every space imaginable private or public. You can't police thought and it'll never work society will collapse first.

Unfortunately, you cannot apply the same standards of acceptable moderations with every corner of the globe.
What's acceptable in Turkey may not fit with conservative Alaskan county.
For example, in Iran, the football club Roma (Italian football club) had their team logo blurred on Iran tv broadcast channel because the Roma football club logo contained wolf puppies suckling on their mothers breast.

    The answer is privacy.
Instead of commoditizing data, sites should return to paid memberships to make money. And in order to prevent bad things just shift to an immoral competitor, require the companies to say in their privacy policies that they would commit to notify each source of data (the users) of the monetization of their information. Who are the buyers/ the payers, what kind of aggregation they were looking for, and where are all of the information now. Yeah the aggregate information.

But, the perspective, PewDiePie is not supposed to be the rude one out here, he was the gate, the bridge, the glasses, the antibody for people like me. The real world is not this youtube, and the part that didn't get to us, get to these moderators. This is unprecedented, and you techs have gone very far... Why don't go back a bit to the roots, and let us deal with some of the realities too?

  • @vicneshkeysightscope1775

We didn't have content moderation without Information Technology, what makes some of these folks think that they can moderate content now? Human content moderators will have their own biases and our AI is not smart enough to pick off everything. If AI was just as smart as humans, than they will have human biases too. I think it is a pointless effort.
People are just going to need to learn to be more critical of the information they receive, adapt to the Information Age and realize the consequence of their actions. It is the new reality we live in.
The solution to making people smarter in our current Information Age is to invest in early education (pay school teachers more, add computing classes at an early age), reduce higher education cost (especially predatory student loans) and lower cost of access to computing power and internet (break the internet company monopolies).
