Pricing is absolutely insane for what one gets. I’m sorry, I love the idea of it, but this vehicle doesn’t exist in a bubble. This is more expensive than a Model 3 performance.
Why is it €20k+ over the equivalent ID3 GTX Performance? You'd be an absolute mug to buy this instead. Can't see them shifting any if people do their homework. Are you planning to review the ID3 GTX any time soon?! Thanks!
€66k.......Jeebus wept!! Buy the AWD BYD Seal (over 500bhp) and pocket 10k I love it and was waiting for it to arrive......but VW need their heads examined if the think people will pay that sort of coin for it.
Crazy, crazy price. They'll be like hens teeth until they knock about 15k off them . Reminds me of the golf R pricing around 2015. They reduced them by around that price and then they started selling!
€66,000 is nuts. The car looks great and the performance is lovely although I am not a fan of hard seats. But again, for that money there are so many other cars that are more desirable.
Big discounts on both ID3 GTX and Born VZ if you go down Finance route, ID3 still probably a better bet if you are going to keep the car and/or bin the Finance once you have secured the incentive payment.
I really wish I could daily a hatch but my back just cant handle it anymore. The Born was the EV I wanted and for a long time Cupra said they wouldnt come to North America. I think Ive read now that they will. This is a very cool but that price equates to almost 100k Canadian. The VW group is overpricing EVERYTHING they make. A damn shame. Thanks for the quick video.
It's too expensive but as a company lease it was a no brainer for me. 5N is 80k and not within budget. It's NOT a tesla, bmw, audi or some monster suv which you see everywhere. Performance is more than adequate in todays traffic conditions, so yes please!
Currently £40,555 in England , in Aurora Blue, including £5k discount from Cupra for going with finance package-which can be cashed in early to get the best value deal, without the sunroof option.
That's a good deal my 60kw e boost v3 was priced a £39950 whe I got mine in sept. Im assuming that has 5k off now also Tbh the e-boost is enough power for our roads. The 6.6s 10-60 figure is way off, I've had 5.8 over and over, and when you're up and running and in Cupra mode, it picks up more than fast enough. Instantly goes. I'm thinking the 340bhp should have been AWD. As the 240hp e boost, feels a lot more than any 240hp I've car. It's because it's Just on tap instantly. I'd say if you have the money get the 240 e boost in V3 spec and the larger battery, over the VZ model. The original in it's new 2024 model year update is now a good polished car. Also I'd call it a hot hatch, as hot hatch doesn't mean all the HP, think gold GTi Vs R, yes the r is faster, but almost everyone says they would rather have the GTi and it's more fun. So to me a hot hatch is a practical fun car that is fun to drive swiftly. And the 240 born ticks all the boxes and is a tad quicker than swiftly.
@@DarrenMansell I written that badly🤦🏼♂️ then did yours arrive. I ordered on the 30th sept and waited almost 3 months. I'm really enjoying it. I wouldn't want or need anything quicker, the pick up in Cupra mode is faster than any 300 plus hp car I've had before.
Have one of these on order in the UK as a company lease, cheaper than the ID3 GTX and nicer looking. Also cheaper on lease than any Tesla model, so VW Group/Cupra must be giving big discounts to lease companies. Test drove one for a week and did over 1k miles in it, I was surprised how ecumenical it was when compared to my current MG4 X-Power. The software in this newer version/facelift also seemed to just work - I didn't have any glitches at all with it on the test drive. Plus it drives really well too, obviously!
It's expensive - yes, but if one can get it on lease then it's a good choice I think. I've had Born for 1 and a half year now, mainly city driving and it's awesome. my lease is due to end next year so hoping to get the Tavascan if the price is not too crazy. I love the brand - it just feels like a little family :-) I always keep chatting to other Cupra drivers whenever I get a chance haha (weirdo - I know)
Like someone else said, thoughts and prayers are with Bob and his family at this time but a couple of thoughts I think on the car, first i don't like the aero covers on the wheels which for me just look like crap wheel trims and whilst I understand the reason behind them you might as well stick steels and wheel trims on it if that's what they're going to do plus the drum brakes I think should be fine as I'm told that because of the strong regen with an EV that you don't need rear discs though I might be wrong. The other elephant in the room is the obvious price both to buy and insure though given that it us the performance version it's not a big surprise there.
Do like this, great looks and colour, great performance and handling. However, as others have said, it’s just too expensive, especially as in the UK it will be in the luxury tax band next year so even more to run than now. If they could do one under £40,000 in a nice colour, then it would be on my company car list, but as it stands it’s too much.
Love watching your car reviews, great channel 👍. Could someone please explain why cars in Ireland are so much more expensive ? I'm from the uk and the Born VZ is just under £46k, thats approximately €55k. Both countries are right hand drive so why is it 66k in Ireland ?, I thought the uk got ripped off with new car prices compared to Europe.
I like it but is too expensive. At least the pads are now back lit. My current lease car is a v1 born. No options. Is fab to drive , quite quick and great as a family car.. Maybe in a year when lease up would consider VZ. Depreciation is scary. Happy new year.
Good review & Video well done 👏🏻 but Cupra won’t sell any of these in Ireland at that price. Absolute crazy and over €20k more expensive than the equivalent ID3 GTX and really averaging over 20 kWh is just crazy inefficient for a small car …
I'd guess you get around 20% off at the dealership... At least in Germany that's about the amount... And then depending on the market you will get offered even less than that
How much money absolutely ridiculous like i said before about EV'S & not even got rear disk brakes seriously how ridiculous!!😬 Great car tho even tho its an EV!!👍🏻
I think the VZ is rather lazy way for Cupra to try and convince potential punters that this is a hot hatch. EVs generally have sufficient useable performance to satisfy most drivers tastes with great acceleration from the instant torque being far more exhilarating than a double speed limit top speed. There is nothing about the VZ that excites me. No styling differentiation or suspension improvements and the sports seats just flatter to deceive. Whilst I am disappointed that Alpine didn’t give the A290 a bit more power over the Renault 5 they have at least reworked the suspension, given the interior a more premium look and feel and the exterior styling has a more menacing hot hatch look. Even going back a few years BMW made the i3s look more sporty than the standard i3. If you are an old school petrolhead but at least open minded about EV’s I cannot see the VZ tempting them out of their Golf GTI’s or 4 wheel drive Golf R’s.
Hi Mark I have driven a few EVs and I admit I did like them.I live off grid which makes it impossible for me to own one.Diesel is my best option.Great review mark
@NobbyOnCars 14% better. Another 40 miles of range. I was only commenting because you said the efficiency wasn't great at 3.1. 3.6 is pretty close to class leading.

How much of the price is the Irish tax?
Cupra Born VZ costs “only” 49 k€ here in Finland.
VW ID3 GTX Performance Plus is almost 20k cheaper for basically the same car with matrix headlights.
In the uk the Cupra in £2k cheaper on the configurator than the GTX

Well the reason I am not buying it is because it's not AWD.
I really prefer the copper colour on the rear over the chrome finish. Its jsur ehat cupra has always been.
