Great reaction. Thanks. Jerry started playing with Merl Saunders starting around 1971 and then regularly as a side project from 1973 to July 1975 (1975 the band was known as Legion of Mary) and a brief tour of shows at Reconstruction around 1979. Their Live at Keystone 1973 album is amazing and was one of my favorites in High School! You've been getting some good suggestions for other songs to check out from comments here. If you want to learn more about The Grateful Dead, check out the documentary "Long Strange Trip." Keep on keepin' on!!
You’ll love his version of Positively 4th Street with Merl Saunders. Love this funky JGB. The man could play any kind of music. Keep ‘em coming please.✌️❤️🎶
Hey now Biz, now you are getting into the deep end of the pool. I have even met Merl Saunders after a show and talked to him for a hot minute, and I have never heard this song, done by these guys. And I have been following Jerry and the boys since 1980. I feel bad, because this is a pretty famous song, especially up in New England, where i grew up. Thanks, and a great recommendation!
Martin Fierro plays sax on this according to the notes I found. He also played sessions with Quicksilver Messenger Service. Bo Diddley also wrote and recorded a song titled "Road Runner", a different song entirely but one that was later covered by The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Zombies, the Pretty Things, and The Who. Also note that neither of those songs are the same song as "Roadrunner" by The Modern Lovers. The phrase is simply too picturesque for songwriters to avoid using it as a title for their songs.
Lovely ! ty. I would like to hear tracks from the love album, I think it's called "Jerry Garcia Band" from late eighties / early nineties. Amazing stuff....songs include "Stop That Train", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", and many other really good ones. Keep it up! It might be the quintessential Jerry Band album. But, who's to say?
BIZ!!! You are straight FIRE LATELY! This is a phenomenal version of this song! This is the precursor to the Jerry Garcia Band. Merl Saunders - Keys, Jerry Garcia - Guitar, John Kahn - Bass, Paul Humphrey - Drums, Martin Fierro - Sax…✌️☮️
Merl Sanders was part of the Jerry Garcia Band. I wouldn't call it the Merl Sanders band behind him. The saxophone was a nice touch that I don't normally hear in the JGB. Not sure who it was.
Merl and Jerry played together over 300 times from 70-75. Always billed as Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders except mid 74 to mid 75 was “legion of Mary” Matin Fierro on sax. He was also part of “legion of Mary”
Keep rolling Biz!!! You are tthe you tube Grateful Dead and JGB king, and we appreciate more than u know!! Roadrunner Baby!!
Love your Jerry dive ❤️🫡🫡✌️

Scarlet Begonias>Fire on the Mountain from 5/8/77 and Eyes of the World from 1974. Please.
I've requested it awhile ago I think he's having trouble getting it approved
@@cevinwillson9113 Darned shame. I see other people have reacted to it, such as Jamel Jamal.
