There are trains that run at 600 kilometers per hour - almost twice the speed of the bullet trains that currently dominate the high-speed railway scene. What was once a dream is now a reality. But how has this massive leap in speed been achieved? Take a look at this real life magic: Chinese engineer Liang Jianying and her team's attempt to magnetically levitate a 60-tonne train.

@@jayceh TH-cam has been blocked since 2009, which was about 12 years before the data sovereignty laws came in, so that wasn't the reason. It got blocked because there were a lot of videos from Tibet on here around the time of the unrest and YT refused to remove them or block them locally, so China eventually blocked it permanently after several short blocks throughout 2008. I remember it well. The day it went down permanently caused me major headaches as I had a presentation planned entirely around a YT video that suddenly I couldn't show anymore. If they can make maglev work commercially then it will be a huge improvement of the already impressive high speed trains.
At those speeds you are seriously beginning to compete with planes on all but the longest flights, which is great news for the environment. Especially once we transition to get all electricity from sustainable energy production like nuclear, hydro, wind and solar.
I'm not so sure about electric planes as they will be quite limited in range, at least with the current battery technology, but trains don't have this limitation, obviously.
Trains running with metal wheels on metal tracks are already the most efficient way to transport anything across land. If Maglev removes even the rolling resistance then it will be even better.
Ofcourse, wheeled trains (electric ofcourse) will still be vital for kinds of cargo transport, but for quick passenger routes I can definitely see 600km/h maglev as a game changer.
Great work Lian Jianying and all the others working on this. It is an exciting future!

Good for them. Now Asia has 2 countries that overtook Germany's 435 kmph maglev train technology (originally developed by Siemens AG 20 years ago). I wonder when Japan can push the limit to match China's Vactrain (vacuum tubed train) at 1,000 kmph.
Frankly speaking, I think the Vactrain system is a waste of efforts and resources because its cost would be prohibitive. Passengers who take the maglev trains at speed of 600 kmph will arrive to their destinations faster and earlier than those by airplane, taking into account the hassles of taking a cab to the airport, going through security checkpoints, customs, and the waiting time at the airport.

The Maglev train is a progression of the originally german Transrapid. Transrapid was sold as "Shanghai Express" to China in 2004. And after the Transrapid project was abandoned in Germany in 2011 Siemens sold the technology and the patents to CRRC. Nice video but it would have been gentle to mention where the technology originally came from.

sour grape just pure jealousy. if its so easy, why don't you Germans develop it in the first place ? Germany was the first to develop some form of Maglev train doesn't mean you also developed the technology of this 600 km/h speed new Maglev train, Lol.

China wants technology in exchange for contract
China is planning an extension of its Shanghai connection to the city of Hangzhou, 180 kilometers away.
Earlier this year, Germany rejected China's demands for access to sensitive Maglev technology in exchange for building this $4.3 billion high-tech rail link. Chinese officials approved the building of the track in March. But discussions with the companies have been going slowly as Beijing is looking for significant technology transfers and funding as the price of admission.
"We are optimistic that our Transrapid will be employed on this stretch," Wiegelmann said.
Germany provided 10 percent of the $1 billion budget for the Shanghai airport link
