Bold of you to assume I can keep these plants alive long enough to develop this deformity
HAHAHA
😭😭🤣🤣🤣
Meee
Omg 😭😆🤣
This comment Made my day haha
You now have a palm tree succulent. :)
I love it lol
That's so cute
At one point or anther, I think we've all had one of those "palm tree succulents". LOL
Would love an update on the leaves when they form their babies.
I have a succulent that’s going crazy, and I thought I was doing something really good for it.
Turns out I’m just a shitty succulent owner.
rach hehe
Ohhhh my gosh....YES! Somehow, my eye caught the name of this video and I thought, “Wait, stretching is bad?!”
@@fannyfreckle it's not bad, it's normal, it's just the way they grow. It's just about looks, when you keep them in an arrangement with other succulents or so. But if you like them the way they are, just let them be.
You'd though that they'd be growin up like normal plants, but that is bad after all.
Lol same 😂
Thank you, once again, for the great education! I have been propagating succulents for several years now, based on your instructions. You are spot on - and I have so many lovely succulents started from babies that I gift them to friends and neighbors. The gift that keeps on giving!
I do the same thing with my succulents. Nothing better than getting free plants and to watch them grow. Have a wonderful day🌴😄🌴
Im sure im not the only one who thinks it looks quite nice leggy like that :D
Totally agree
I’m with you.. have 2 just like that. She didn’t say it was harmful to leave it leggy did she???
@@blondept7044 nah it won't harm it straight away but if the light is really low enough it will die. They could also tope lime she said. If yours is like the one in the video be fine :)
Sometimes, if left to stretch more, the leaves will separate so you can see through them. That especially doesn’t look very good. Plus, it’s not exactly healthy for the plant.
it looks cute, but I for instance have one that is REALLY stretched out, and some of the leaves don't look healthy at all anymore.
me to my leggy succulents bc of my inadequate lighting situation: shhhh ur beautiful 💚
My succulent is quaking listening to me watch this video
😂
Man, that succulent looks fine.
It's just out there living its best life.
🌲
Finally TH-cam recommended me a very useful video for someone who grows a succulent at home.
Wow! 28 free plants! That's a huge savings! My daughter is the houseplant and succulent whisperer. Idk if she follows you but I have turned her on to your vids. You are sweet anf pleasent to watch. My new favorite thing is pothos in water. Been growing them in collected tea pots and they are so pretty.
This is perfect! My mom's succulent was looking odd and we didn't know what was wrong (first time gardeners). They looked just like this. I sent the video to her. Thank you so much!
Woo, thanks! During the recent Texas Ice Bonanza, in my teeny portable greenhouse, one of mine etoliated like a freakin snake. (I'm just glad ANY-thing survived. I lost all of the plants that were towards the outside wall and almost all of my succulents.) I'd already laid out the extra leaves, but now I know that I can keep the crown. Much appreciated. One aloe is kind of etoliated, but it made the prettiest flower spike when it got out into the sun, so hey, life goes on.
A friend sent me a rose succulent off for Valentine's Day. And it got leggy just like you showed yours. So now I know how to save it and make more babies! Thank you so much. I wish you and all who read this the very best!
i need to sleep and i have no clue why youtube thinks i need this video. but i liked it and i will try this. thank you
I wish I had found your channel 2+ years ago when I first started collecting succulents. You have answered every question I could possibly ask and more, thank you so much!
That's one of the things I find so awesome about most succulents, they're so tenacious and capable of recovering compared to some other plants. They also tend to have really nice patterns and lovely little flowers.
😄👍
the baby pant is so cute
Ahh, now I know what I did wrong with mine. I watered too soon. :( I might be able to salvage a few leaves and start over. *sob*
Yeahh... me also did wrong with my succulants.. :(
@@shiedarosli642, so sorry. :(
Meeeee2.
I propagated mine by sticking them through plastic wrap above a pie plate with water. They rooted so fast!
Glad this popped up in my recommended... I guess they knew it was time to fix all of mine up for winter!
My family thinks I’m nuts because I have so many babies growing. But I was able to freshen up two larger arrangements with new plants that I grew myself. So exciting! I still have a ton more that need to put on more growth. I had a few that had mealy bugs but I’m using insecticidal soap and it seems to be helping, alcohol wasn’t enough.
Anita Hadley hi hVe mealy bug probs . I have started to wash them under tap , it works very well
@@christinebeames2311 wouldnt that lead to fungal problems if you soak the leaves under the tap?
Tell doubting family it is better than multiplying rabbits in the house! 😁
Oh my goodness! I was literally sitting here five minutes ago looking at some succulents that are leggy and need to be fixed. But. Had no idea how. Thank you so, so, much for this and for everything you do!
Your succulent videos are the OG... and what brought me to your channel five years ago 😊 I'll always be thankful to succulents for that ❤
So pleased to see that you will be at the Philadelphia Flower show this year. You should be recognized for promoting and sharing your garden knowledge with all your viewers. Maybe I'll get to see you there.
Thank you so much I’m actually going to attempt this today 🥰🥰🥰😊
This was so helpful, I have a succulent that I didn't know how to care for and iv just been fumbling by and accedently learnt some of the process but not all of it with propergating with the leaves but I didn't know what to do with my main boy. He has such a big stem now after getting him when me and my partner moved in to our first home so it's been 6 years now! Hes growing 2 more at the bottom in the same place 2 were taken away whilst I was learning when I thought it was over crowded. But now I want to really do it properly so this will help get my very first succulent back to its former glory!
It kind of favors a Christmas tree. Looking forward to learning about these plants.
I have a small tank with 8 succulents in it and grow lights. After 3 months, one has started to stretch, I'm glad I watched this coz now i can lower the light and move it over to hopefully prevent it stretching more than it has. It's kinda cute the way it is right now, but I wouldn't want it to stretch anymore!
That same thing happened to one of my Sempervivum. The guy was sorrounded by a lot of other succulents in a arrangement, thus receiving not much light. When I decided to save him, I think I made things worst, because he has been losing a lot of leaves since that day and now he looks more like a palm tree than a Sempervivum. I decided this time to leave him alone, waiting for him to recover from the trauma he's been through.
Edit: The poor guy finally died. May the force be with you, little sempervivum.
Those need to be outside
I feel personally attacked. There’s absolutely no reason TH-cam should have suggested this to me unless they are looking in my window.
Thanks though :)
Misty K. Hahahha right? Same! It’s like my succulent was talking shit when my phone was nearby and boom! Here we are. More light it is lil succulent 😂
Same, I just started my interest in plants an have 4 succulents. One of them started sprouting like this and I didn't know what to do
I know right?! -Same!
i was just wondering yesterday what exactly was wrong with my succulent and it’s like i was heard
Ha ha ha :)
I acquired what I believe is a Graptopetalum ("Ghost plant") from a friend who didn't know what to do with it. It had been obviously neglected for some time. It was horribly etiolated and needed to be fixed. I pointed out to her that I could make several new ones out out of the one she gave me. She was delighted. I told her it could be several months before it would show results, since the plant takes a while to grow, plus being it is now fall (Oct. 11. 2021)and it's about ready to go into dormancy for the winter. Wish me luck!
How to save your succulent: Step 1. Chop it off and rip into bits. Lol 😂 but yes it works
Yes it does, my back porch has pans everywhere w/ propagation going on! 🌿🌹👍🏼
I’ve always loved the tidy, symmetry of these plants but being such a newbie, have never tackled them. I’m starting to see how easy it is to fall in love with them!
I NEVER knew you could cut the root!
I was never knew to much about succulents until watching your videos. So glad I did!
Fascinating...I am a floral designer at a supermarket and we get a lot of succulents...I've got a few home but now I have a better idea how to care for them...love how you laid the leaves out on that flat surface and later they sprout then start having babies...going to try that!
Thank you SO much for this!!! My succulent got really leggy but after using a grow light the top portion flourished and is tight compact, beautiful. Really been wanting to cut it but didn’t know how!
What tim8ng!My daughter and I are having this problem. Now,thanks to you,we can fix and propagate. 😉
I've learnt the most about plants from this channel ❤️
Yes! She is so smart plant wise, and the place they live ... wow 😲
I'm so glad I remembered that you had provided such an in-depth explanation of how to do this because I finally kept succulents alive long enough to have this problem! 😂 Now I guess I need to get some better grow lights! 💚
Thanks Laura - very helpful! I’ve had nothing but “leggy luck” in growing succulents. So, now I’m better informed and can keep my plants healthier and avoid the dreaded etoliation (sp?) scourge!
Very informative. Your love of succulents is what got me interested in them. I just love them. Can’t wait for the Spring update on the succulent bunny. 🐰🐰🐰
Succulents are wonderful and amazing plant. I had found some succulents' leaves that fell from the container into the tile floor and they have growing babies .....that is quite amazing! Thanks for the video.
I have a few leggy succulents so I’ll be taking care of them this week now that I finally know how to rescue them! I’ve had so much success with propagation using all of your great advice. I appreciate it so much!
This was so helpful. This always happens to my succulents and now I know why. :)
I love your video's, of all the video's I watch, I get a different answer on how to propogate leaf succulents, one will say mist everyday, one will say don't put in soil just leave in a container, another will say don't water, so i'm just wondering what to do. you make more sense to me. so I think I will do your instructions. tks for the videos, Nicky
Thank you. I now know how to fix my plants. I love to watch baby succulents grow. I have a tray I started early this year. They are slowly getting bigger
I would love to see how you fix the others. The one you showed I have seen you do before (not as in depth) but the other varieties I would love to know how to fix those as I do have one that is leggy :) . Thanks so much! I love everything you do because I learn so much!
Ohh thank you for the timely information! Coffee with Laura and I am off to see how to help the plants I have at work!
This is awesome to know. Some of mine are getting leggy, now I know how to propagate ! Thank you !
I wondered why you had a boot tray. Clever use! Very helpful video as always and thank you. I'm guilty of watering too soon as well.
I bought one of the many varieties of echeveria a few years ago. It always had ideal conditions, but it still let go of the stems and discarded the lower leaves. From each leaf I got a new plant, but instead of planting each one separately, I let them grow together with the mother in the same wide pot. Now I already have two such pots full of wonderful rosettes, stems hanging from the side and all together it looks like a rich hanging creepers. To make sure there is no confusion, I have never overwatered them, but they obviously do not naturally want to grow as one separate rosette as we would like. Also, depending on how cold or hot it is, they change colors. In any case, they take the breath away of any observer and I am satisfied. They look like one plant, but there are a hundred of them in one pot and they love that I don't touch them.
Just wanted to say Thank You, love watching your videos! Great information ....and love that you explain everything ! Honestly the best videos out there (in my opinion)!!
You are so great! This is a concise video covering all the bases, answered my question and quickly educated me. You covered all the issues I needed help with. I did everything you did, end-to-end. Thank you! Keep doing your thing!
😇🎉 "What..." NO Russell 🐈 LOL 😊 Hi Laura, I had NO IDEA on how to properly care for succulents 🌵💚👒
Thank YOU for sharing this video 📹🌵💚👒
LUV JOY 😊 💜🌵💚👒
Thank you for posting this. My sweet mom recently passed away and I inherited some of her hens and chicks. One of them has gotten tall and leggy and the stem is shriveling up. I haven't had much experience with these plants so I was happy to find your video. I'll try to salvage the top of this plant and perhaps I'll have good luck in propagating the leaves too. Thanks again!
Hi Laura I love your videos., I have learned so much from you about all varieties of plants. Before watching you I was a serial overwaterer but now I know exactly when to water thanks to you. I especially love your Christmas videos and I have made all of your natural wreaths and totally love them! I live in Canada and wish I could visit your garden center....maybe one day
Ive got some of these, although bit different variety. They're all but impossible to kill. Great little plants.
Thank you Laura!!! Great info!
Thank you!!! I love watching and learning from you! Blessings from Canada
I really appreciate your sharing the knowledge you have with all of us!
Thanks for the helpful video! this, and overwatering are the two biggest succulent problems i see 24/7. nice to know how to fix it.
I love his video. This has happened to me so many times and I didn’t know what to do. Thank you Laura for this information.
Thank you! My succulents were stretching and I didn’t know what to do. Did some clipping and put them under the grow lights downstairs.
I’ve never owned a succulent a day in my life. But here I am lmaooooo
Love your videos.
now this was some really helpful advice. thank you for that quality video among so many that are just a waste of time here on yt
VERY HELPFUL!!! Thank you!!! I am just starting out and know nothing. (And at $5 a plant that is worth a lot!)
OMG. I just looked at my succulents and they are pretty leggy, Darn winter and little light. Now I will get at them. Thanks for the info.
I only have a leaf sitting in some soil stretching out roots, nowhere near a full rosette but i live for this useful succulent content
Thanks I needed this! Mine are starting to and my coworker gave me hers that just got out of control. I’ll be fixing them up and growing a bunch of new now!
I’m glad I saw this... I’ve been doing some things wrong when propagating.
Wow I always learn so much from you! It’s almost as if you’re reading my mind! I gave one little cactus that was given to me as a present and it’s doing exactly that, teaching for the sun!
Thank you for such good advice. :)
I tried to propagate the succulents and failed ☹️. But now I know why. I water too soon and too much and too impatient and ended up at the dollar store and bought 10 pretty plastics one.
Thanks for the video and the lesson. Now I’m inclined to try again thanks so much. 😊👍🏻
Excellent tutorial! Had all the information I needed to care for my succulents. So helpful. I love your channel. Thanks!!
I wasn’t even searching for this, but I’m so glad it popped up under suggested videos! My succulents are getting crazy long and snakey! 🐍
Thanks for this short and informative succulent vid. Did you mention how much light the new cuttings need while they're rooting and growing babies?
I'm just began venturing into propagating succulents this summer! It's going great but this was super helpful because I had some like tall looking succulents that I just didn't know what to do with! thanks!! excited that I found your channel!
Very useful video, it saved my poor leggy succulent! Thank you! ^_^
Thank you you my favorite succulent person...I started a business...thanx for the help
Thank you for sharing this. I had one that was badly stretched, so I was able to propagate this week.
So interesting to see just how forgiving plants are. I don't have any succulents but I have wanted to grow my own Aloe plant indoors. (I live in a condo but have a nice porch that can house my herbs and favorite plants. Thank you for the information. I had not idea that etiollation is a thing for succulents. Thank you for sharing yet another really interesting video. You are a really effective teacher.
Aloes are wonderful. I used to only grow herbs too until my neighbor gave me a few offsets of her aloes to grow. They just need a bit of light and a gritty well-draining medium and they will grow like crazy. From 1 pot in July 2018, I now have 4 pots full of aloes that I'm planning to give to some friends.
Thank you. @@heyowey
My Sucelents started going crazy and stretched because I have so many plants and I had to put it in the back so it started growing forward and it got very long
Wow I started my indoor garden this week and your video has been so helpful
Hello I have so many Japanese beetles on my roses. What is the best I can use to get rid of them? Love your channel Thanks
Thankyou ,now I know why mine are so long ,I brought them in from outside ,and they look so sad. Now I know what to do.☺️❤️
Nice to know. This is from someone who doesn't have a green thumb at all. Thanks for sharing.
Always so helpful!! This happens to my cacti so now I know what to do to avoid this.
Thank you ! I just threw my plant out 😢. Thanks to you, I can now save them !!
Lots of info packed in these few minutes! Great stuff, thanks, I'll be deconstructing an etiolated succulent today! :)
Can i propagate leaves in their designated pots right away?
Loved this very informative talk. I have several plants that need this treatment. Thanks
So awesome ! 🙌🏻 thank you so much! This is very helpful. In fact I find ALL your videos helpful. 😊👍🥰.
Now I want to grow a bunch of succulents!
Thank you for including the links to the grow lights!
Honestly I think they look really neat n unique like this!
Absolutely wonderful tutorial. Can't wait to get home and do some propagating
Would also love a propagation update. I would have loved to see you work on those other plants too!
