I knew something wasn't quite right about Don Cornelius. When I was a teenager I was on Don's soul Train show when it started in Chicago in the early 70's. Don Cornelius, was mean, he would scream at us in a impatient nasty way. But when the commercial break was over and the cameras start rolling he would start acting nice, smiling and say "o.k. boys and girls" let's come together .....🤔🙄👺
That's interesting! Do you have any photos? Supposedly, those shows were never taped, according to Don Cornelius. However, I think someone behind the scenes has copies!? Basically, he had a split personality ( Dr.Jekell and Mr.Hyde)

He was in a bad place psychologically to take his life the way he did. That is terrible! As a young girl watching Soul Train there was always something about his demeanor that was strange to me. He had a dance show full of life but he appeared so lifeless. That's the best way I can describe it. I think something was bothering him way back then.
I agree with you. I wasn’t able to articulate it but I felt something sinister. I usually attribute it to a dysfunctional childhood, denial of sexuality, or self- hate. In his case it may be all 3 which is why I’m looking to find a biography written about him. Thanks Ashley❤️

My God in Heaven such a sorrowful situation that Don Cornelius had these horrible dark side that cost him to brutalize others as he was apparently in a very dark place in his heart and mind💔😥‼
I read that his second wife taking him to cleaners over the divorce was one of the driving forces to his suicide. Basically her alimony was draining any chance of inheritance for his biological kids. He was ordered by the judge to buy her a million dollar home as well as pay for her daughters college tuition and that wasn’t his biological child. That woman new she was marrying a meal ticket
@@brooklynqueen7089 I don’t feel sorry for them. When they get tired, they’ll change it. I just went through a custody battle for no reason bc he was listening to his new girlfriend. I’ve had my son for 10 yrs now, when asked why now he said he wasn’t sure the judge said “get sure”.
It was rumored, during the 80's, that Don Cornelius was homosexual. He recruited a lot of gay boys from Crenshaw and Dorsey high to dance on Soul Train. Young men like Jermaine Stewart, O'brian, etc were recruited because they were gay. That's probably why he was so abusive toward women.
Again: Black Dynamite has a episode where Dick Clark and Don Cornelius were fighting for those ratings 😂😂😂😂😂 hilarious but historical ..great content sis💖

@@CodyCole80 I am going to take a wild guess and say it may have been the Ojays. They and Don were real tight since the early days of Soul Train. Could be wrong, just a guess.
@@angelafisher299 🤔 Hummm…I would’ve thought of a younger, less mature group, like Kool and The Gang or The Commodores. They were all barely out of their teens in the early 70’s. Those were young guys that Don would’ve thought he could’ve coerced or groomed. 😒 I think he would’ve known not to “fluke” wit the The O’Jays, especially Eddie and William. They were closer to his age. Plus, Eddie seemed like the type that was wit the 💩s, and William looked like the “Don’t let the light-skin fool ya type.” 😂 He was really handsome but had a hood vibe to me. But who knows. Sometimes it’s the ones you least expect. 😂🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
@@CodyCole80 You have a point because Eddie Levert is known to cuss folks out. He curse so much that Betty Wright warned him about his language on the Christian Broadcasting network TBN "Praise".
Soul train and fat Albert and the gang were Saturday routines, my uncle worked on the Soul train stages out in Cali and I heard stories for years,Don was Wilding, beefing and doing the rock star thing, his showdowns with Dick Clark or giving Rick James shade were legendary, he was a complex cat, still hard to believe he been gone a decade, American Soul on BET drops some things, however the real Don Cornelius story gonna take time, respect to you Soul sister Ashley
Now THAT video if she chooses to create it would be probably TOO HOT to drink or sip for DAYS on end waiting for it to cool down. We all know what was said by Tupac concerning Q. I also recently watched a video ( an included interview) done by Unplugem where Michael Jackson said a few eyebrow raising comments about "spending 18-hour days lying on the grass with Quincy" while creating MJ's "Thriller" album. The live snake thing MJ was holding & Quincy looking a tad bit weird was questionable too. Makes you wonder if Quincy was just an older version of Benny Medina.
I was LOL at work. Everyone was looking at me because its so quiet. I love how you tell stories. I feel like I'm right there. Elvis was a trip for sure.
The power trip is real. When we don't have more on our minds, a higher purpose, we go off out of control. Drug and sex abuse is common among those who have made it in America. Lessons learned.
Ashllllleeeeyyy Don Cornelius is on the home page of yahoo! Saying he assaulted 2 women at the Playboy mansion! I said dang! Ashley just gave us “tha scandal hunty! Tha scandal!” 2 weeks ago! His face popped up and my mouth dropped!
American Bandstand is not studied as early "Reality TV"???? Hmmm 🤔! What college did you take this course??? It's great that it's included in a college course bc it was a genius TV creation and production! However, Soul Train was not a reality TV show! That's straight bullsh!t. And is diminishes Soul Train genius and success!!! White TV always trying to bury Black genius and success, so they'll create another lane, usually derogatory, for Black art! So they can shine and keep the spot light!!!
I'm here after watching last night's episode of "Secrets of Playboy." And you had the tea before it aired!!!! I was waiting to see if you were going to get into it. Great job doing your due diligence.
🚆The Sooooul train, the hippest trip in America! Born & raised in Chicago, I watched Soul Train every Saturday growing up! Don Cornelius gave many black celebrities a chance to shine & become more famous. He was definitely a great influence to my culture! (beautiful black people) He will forever be one of the greatest tv hosts in the world! And as only Don Cornelius could say....."We wish ya love, peace, & soooooul!"✌️✌️✌️ Thank you so much Ashley for bringing the tea on the king of Soul Train!
What a special treat, Ashley...two vids this week and something good to hunker down to on a cold rainy night tonight. I'm loving it! A couple of months ago I stumbled across these short videos titled I Was a Soul Train Dancer. Great stuff y'all, from the perspectives of the dancers. The short segments really make these people real. I know I used to think of them as glamorous and lucky to be dancing on Soul Train. You will see they're regular people with ordinary lives. You can find all their stories, just search I was a soul train dancer. Loving you Ashley!!
I used to want to be a Soul Train dancer because I thought their lives were more glamorous than it really was with doing what they love! I love the segment"I was a Soul Train Dancer" too!
Dang Ashley😳 Why do these people seem to lose their minds that are so brilliant? I’m truly grateful that he made SoulTrain but it breaks my heart to hear how he treated women😟 And I loved O’Brien! I never knew that was happening to him 🤦🏽♀️ Don’t you turn crazy on us after you blow up 😂🙏🏾❤️🥰
Ashley! I love you! Two in a row like that... Bam, Bam! A man laying his hands on a woman is such a devastating ordeal in so many ways. My daughter was beat within an inch of her life by her child's father. She would not let me go to the hospital and see her so I went to her apartment to just clean up a bit. The horrific scene that I entered, as a mother, will never leave my psyche! I spent four hours cleaning my daughter's blood off of every surface of that apartment. The real kicker, when I went downstairs to open the door to go outside, my daughter's bloody handprint was on the door, in her attempt to escape.
Oh my god! I hope you and your daughter are doing well. Hope she found a way to get him away and out of her life. Normally I’d say a child’s father (or mother) should be allowed to stay connected with their child, but NOT when they’re brutally violent like that. Best wishes to you, your daughter, and grandchild.
I kind of figured he was doing it with a few key dancers who were at best, okay dancers. A year a so ago,a former late 70’s early 80’s dancer confirmed the other dancers ate chicken but she was able to have steak, seafood, etc. Her long goose neck self was using that neck.
I grew up watching Soul train in the early 70s from Galveston, Texas. We were amazed by all these cool people from California and the very best singers and musicians on that show. California turned out to be a pretty big deal because everybody in my family has made it out there. It's Hollywood, Gangsta Rap and the land of Soul Train. Great vid, Ashley your style has grown on me.
I was born in Chicago in 1954. We moved to Arlington Heights (suburbs) in 1960. Most family remained and still live in Chicago. I live 100 due west of there now. I am not black but a 100% Cuban American woman. We often watched SoulTrain. We loved seeing the clothes and funky jewelry. 💥May he RIP. He had a hard go of it all.
Omg!!! When I tell you my mind was blown with this video about Don Cornelius, is an understatement. Ooh chile Don what was you doing homey?! Geesh. Well he was human bless his heart. He still is an icon in my book so Rest in Peace Mr Cornelius, you made us proud 👏🏽. Another great job Ashley 🥰
I am hooked! I can watch your videos all day and night and I actually did one Saturday. I was so glad when I had a clear day and didn't feel like doing nothing. It was "Ashley Says So" and the refrigerator all day! 😂 I love it!!! That Amazon wig on Elvis had me dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don Cornelius, Dick Clark, and Berry Gordy have two things in common: 1) they didn't like rap music; 2) music videos of any kind were a waste. That's when they found out they were out of touch. Gordy sold Motown to Universal Records. Cornelius and Clark dance shows ended.
I was raised in the church I stumbled upon Soul Train one day when I was a lil girl. I didn't do my normal and turn the TV off after the Saturday morning cartoons. Whew Chile that changed my entire life.. my grandma caught me dancing one day and liked to beat the breaks off of me. She said "How you learn all that shaking you doing?" I said Soul Train on TV🤣🤣🤣.

Many years ago I did hear the rumors of him being brutal. He always seemed overly possessed of his emotions, I used to hear how cool he was, he was kind of scary to me. If I remember correctly Cosby was a regular at the playboy mansion and at the playboy jazz festival.
I also heard that Don Cornelius didn't like hip-hop either. I heard that was part of the reason why he couldn't stay relevant too. He even critiqued the hip-hop acts that performed on the show.
He seemed like a depressed man...I grew up watching Soul Train...his presence was creepy. His interviews were dry like he didn't want to interview the artists 🤔
Girllll I grew up off soul train I remember waking up every Saturday morning making a bowl of cereal and watching cartoons that's when cartoons came on every channel and at 11 soulllll train!!
Well..... we reap what we sow 🤷🏾♀️ She did the Dr Dre on him!
It happens each and every time yet look at who they call gold diggers.
That WW took all the money
These men put themselves in that position what’s wanting a trophy and not a real woman
No Miss. Thang didn't bless us with 2 uploads BACK TO BACK!!!! 🙌🏾👏🏽.
Thank you ☺️❤️
Thank you Don Cornelius 💕 for Soul Train! I'm having a Soul Train Party in October for my Birthday, I'm So Excited.. love, Peace and Soul 😘
🧐that makes hella sense.
O'Bryan is not homosexual
I heard Don had a thing for Jermaine Stewart. I didn't want to be the one to say it. Chile this tea is scolding hot.
I heard this as well. That he was definitely in the closet
😳😳😳 SAY IT AINT SO! He seemed like such a tall and strong symbol of black manhood. 🥺🤦🏽♀️
We appreciate your hustle and consistency Ashley! 🥰 Your sense of humor sends me!
💯
Girl you just pushing these out!!! I love it!! Your hustle is inspirational boo!!! DON WAS DIRTY!!!!!!!
I absolutely love your energy in this video! your storytelling skills are unmatched!
Again: Black Dynamite has a episode where Dick Clark and Don Cornelius were fighting for those ratings 😂😂😂😂😂 hilarious but historical ..great content sis💖
That was hilarious 😂
Black Dynamite sucks
Sis! You get all the likes off the jump! The way you are banging out these videos has me in a nostalgia coma, in a good way! Thank you and now I'm about to get into it. This one is going to be great, I can feel it!
Wow. He seemed like a controlling narcissist.
Yes I was extremely very shocked 😮 on Don Cornelius!!!!!!
🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤔I wouldn’t have never ever thought about him like that !!!!!!
I FELL OUT on the floor laughing re the lead-up and punchline about the négligée! Girl! Ya TOLD that!!! LOL!!!
I just wanna know who the group was. 🤔
@@CodyCole80 I am going to take a wild guess and say it may have been the Ojays. They and Don were real tight since the early days of Soul Train. Could be wrong, just a guess.
@@angelafisher299
🤔 Hummm…I would’ve thought of a younger, less mature group, like Kool and The Gang or The Commodores.
@@angelafisher299
😲 He was 🤬 on the show? 😂
‘If you look close enough you might see a price tag hanging from their tail’ Ashley is a MESS
So thats why he left Chicago & moved to LA for the froot loops
Can you do one on Quincy Jones?
I love when Ashley says " chiiiiiiiiiiiiile, these folks out here saying "
You are the queen of storytelling
I was LOL at work. Everyone was looking at me because its so quiet. I love how you tell stories. I feel like I'm right there. Elvis was a trip for sure.
I believe Don C was abusive. Black men of his Era definitely were abusive and many on the DL.
I was bored in class today, but now that I'm on lunch, I can watch my favorite storyteller.
Wow Don had a lot demons to deal with, but you right Soul Train is ours. Thank you for the video Ashley. Awesome 😊
Chile, Episode 3 of the Secrets of Playboy docuseries CONFIRMS that horrible rumor!! Just aired yesterday on A&E. Im shook, got chills!
Yes lawd. That was a mess. So horrible
James Brown the news caster is at Chicago area even today. You see him in the news everyday in Chicago
The power trip is real. When we don't have more on our minds, a higher purpose, we go off out of control. Drug and sex abuse is common among those who have made it in America. Lessons learned.
Drug, sex abuse "and fame" is the most common destruction...
TIME to wash dishes *literally* Thanks!
Thank you for separating the crafted images from the person, and giving a different picture of history.
I’m ready for that Hugh hefner video 😭
Ashllllleeeeyyy Don Cornelius is on the home page of yahoo! Saying he assaulted 2 women at the Playboy mansion! I said dang! Ashley just gave us “tha scandal hunty! Tha scandal!” 2 weeks ago! His face popped up and my mouth dropped!
Now that part about him calling them to his room. And they was tripping over eachother to get out was funny 😂😂🤣
Clicked with the quickness! Stop playing!!!! 😂😂😂
Do a deep-dive on Jody Whatley And how she became successful and overcame the industry politics with a good work-ethic!
yes. Soul Train is studied as the first "reality TV" shows. I was surprised that it was in my Film 101 text book. Awesome!
American Bandstand is not studied as early "Reality TV"???? Hmmm 🤔!
What college did you take this course??? It's great that it's included in a college course bc it was a genius TV creation and production! However, Soul Train was not a
reality TV show! That's straight bullsh!t. And is diminishes Soul Train genius and success!!!
White TV always trying to bury Black genius and success, so they'll create another lane, usually derogatory, for Black art! So they can shine and keep the spot light!!!
Giiiiiirl….I came back to tell you they confirmed your tea in the playboy docuseries. Said they were sisters! 20 and 21.
Now I’m wondering how Don Cornelius felt about Donnie Simpson. 🤔
Good question…
Good question, because Donnie Simpson is a very attractive man.
Or how Donnie Simpson felt about Don???
My mother in law who grew up off 95th south side of Chicago always said she heard about the gay rumors..
🗣COME THROUGH ASHLEY!!!! 🎉 At work ret now! I can’t wait to come back and watch!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Love ❤️ your show Ashley
We had O'Bryan's 45 for the single You and I. That was my song. I believe Mike Evans a.k.a. Ralph Carter sang You and I at Thelma's wedding.
I still have his album.
Yes, Michael Evans sang it on "Good Times". The original artist is Stevie Wonder.
I'm here after watching last night's episode of "Secrets of Playboy." And you had the tea before it aired!!!! I was waiting to see if you were going to get into it. Great job doing your due diligence.
Hope you don't believe that liar
Your sources are incredible. Watched Secrets of Playboy and your tea was sipped with lemon! Get it Ashley!
I loved soul train as a kid. It came on right after Fat Albert. Best 2 hours of entertainment ever.
They are telling the playboy situation with Don on the docuseries. OMG. You are awesome in your breaking news!
And as only Don Cornelius could say....."We wish ya love, peace, & soooooul!"✌️✌️✌️
Thank you so much Ashley for bringing the tea on the king of Soul Train!
Don't give her the big balloon head. 😲😁no you dod your thing
I used to want to be a Soul Train dancer because I thought their lives were more glamorous than it really was with doing what they love! I love the segment"I was a Soul Train Dancer" too!
Thank you! Ima check it out
Ooh yes! I binged those vids. I love hearing hose details
Thank you Ashley for blessing us with another video😩💗
He sounds like a gatekeeper. You have to do what they want first to get through the door...it only gets worse from there.
Dang Ashley😳 Why do these people seem to lose their minds that are so brilliant? I’m truly grateful that he made SoulTrain but it breaks my heart to hear how he treated women😟 And I loved O’Brien! I never knew that was happening to him 🤦🏽♀️ Don’t you turn crazy on us after you blow up 😂🙏🏾❤️🥰
🤣🤣🤣Yes!! Stay with us, Ashley!

No One is righteous no not one 🤳🏿🤷🏿♀️
Ashley!
Bless you
Men that do that hate women.
Oh my god! I hope you and your daughter are doing well. Hope she found a way to get him away and out of her life. Normally I’d say a child’s father (or mother) should be allowed to stay connected with their child, but NOT when they’re brutally violent like that. Best wishes to you, your daughter, and grandchild.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💖💖💖💖
🙏❤
Ashley, you are on top of your game!!! Thanks so much.
I kind of figured he was doing it with a few key dancers who were at best, okay dancers. A year a so ago,a former late 70’s early 80’s dancer confirmed the other dancers ate chicken but she was able to have steak, seafood, etc. Her long goose neck self was using that neck.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 at the last sentence!
😩🤣🤣🤣
Yea that light skinned chick !!😆
I bet it was the Japanese girl with the very long hair lol
Never trust a man who'll only pay you in chicken. 😎🍗🍗🍗
Hahahaha. As funny as this is, there is truth behind this statement!
It says a lot when you read into it. Yes it does...
😂😂😂
Lol😂😅
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I grew up watching Soul train in the early 70s from Galveston, Texas. We were amazed by all these cool people from California and the very best singers and musicians on that show. California turned out to be a pretty big deal because everybody in my family has made it out there. It's Hollywood, Gangsta Rap and the land of Soul Train. Great vid, Ashley your style has grown on me.
Sorry but it started in Chicago he moved it to California
I was born in Chicago in 1954. We moved to Arlington Heights (suburbs) in 1960. Most family remained and still live in Chicago. I live 100 due west of there now. I am not black but a 100% Cuban American woman. We often watched SoulTrain. We loved seeing the clothes and funky jewelry. 💥May he RIP. He had a hard go of it all.
@monkeybrain213 sho did he started in the Chicago bd of trade building in Chicago
Soul train last for while
Nobody liked rap except the rappers at the start...
Wow! Well you’re an adult now…✌🏾
O'Bryan should be glad that his name was mentioned, i forgot his music , i thought, until your video. I pulled up his video's and oh yeah! The memories started to flow. Thank you Ashley and a special thank you to you O'Bryan! Much ❤.
Thank you brother O'Bryan for not selling your soul. Don Cornelius was a monster.
I remember the black and white program. I was a little girl in in Chicago. We used to come home and watch soul train on the local station. Took me down memory lane thank you
@Tina Lewis, it didn't make a difference at my house, the TV was black and white.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Many years ago I did hear the rumors of him being brutal. He always seemed overly possessed of his emotions, I used to hear how cool he was, he was kind of scary to me.
If I remember correctly Cosby was a regular at the playboy mansion and at the playboy jazz festival.
Oooooh!!!
When you mentioned Hugh Hefner!!! I know that episode is going to be BEYOND SCANDALOUS!!!!
Keep up the awesome work!!!!
I did a review of the Secrets of Playboy and my subscribers told me about your channel. Thank you for this video. I’m a new subscriber and fan.
Welcome to AshleySaySo 😁
I also heard that Don Cornelius didn't like hip-hop either. I heard that was part of the reason why he couldn't stay relevant too. He even critiqued the hip-hop acts that performed on the show.
He also didn't like music videos.
He seemed like a depressed man...I grew up watching Soul Train...his presence was creepy. His interviews were dry like he didn't want to interview the artists 🤔
He did. He also had beef with Rick James. You should see their interviews lol
I have not laughed like this in a long time. I Appreciate Your Humor. 😄
I'm so happy you finally uploaded the Don Cornelius video because I've been asking for him for a while now I'm excited
I Know You Excited Enjoy The Tea 🍵
Girllll I grew up off soul train I remember waking up every Saturday morning making a bowl of cereal and watching cartoons that's when cartoons came on every channel and at 11 soulllll train!! We would find anywhere to sit and watch soul train😂 we couldn't wait to see who was going to be on the show and the latest hair styles and the latest fashion and the latest dance's yasss!! Afro sheen commercials i miss those days so much lawd how I wish I could go back like u wouldn't believe!! Thank u for the video I enjoyed it and I've heard those rumors as well bout don it's been said for years
Thank you Ashley you don't disappoint. I was falling asleep and I saw your new post, thank you, thank you for the entertainment!!!!!!
Please do one about Paul Mooney!
Oooo chile you're on a roll. I love me some Don Cornelius & Soul Train. The show American Soul based on Don & Soul Train started giving me a little incite into his personal life.
He was mentioned quite frequently in the playboy docuseries. According to the series, he was brutal.
Omg Finally Scandalites I Wish Love, Peace, And Soul!!!
Thank You!!! This was great coverage! I was one of the people who asked if you can do a says so on Don Cornelius (feels like pulling a lottery win). You are such a great storyteller and I really do enjoy your videos!
This tea on Don was SMOLDERING!!! ☕️☕️☕️
When I was a freshman in high school I was a regular dancer on Soul Train in Chicago in 1970-71, I'm 64 years old now!!!
I wish they had tapped those old shows.
Ashley chillllleeee they have a documentary coming out talking about Don mistreating those playboy bunnies. They have also been posting them it all social media platforms. The neighborhood talk just posted it yesterday. 😳
