Great overview Bryan! This one is probably at the top of my list for the “something of the something something” games too. 😊 Just noticed a slight rules error - When travelling and placing a scroll in the houses of wisdom, the influence marker goes in the influence area of the house, not on the scroll. This is one of the ways to add your influence in the houses for caliph scoring.
Love the Micro art as well, he has such a distinctive style.

I agree, this is one of my favorite Shem games. Spot on review! I'd rate it higher because I love heavier Euro games where it's not so complicated that I have a chance of winning with hardcore gamers. True about the rules being heavy but once you start playing, you are right, it becomes much simpler.
looking forward to my copy. Love all of Garphil games, they are pretty much a 'add to cart' no questions asked, sight unseen for me.

Paladins of West Kingdom, followed by Raiders of the North Sea and the underrated Explorers of the North Sea. That said, I haven’t played one that I haven’t liked.
This game really annoyed me.
I usually like complex games, but this was to me as a unnecessarily complicated game.
And I found it not at all immersive.
Resold after two played… 😂
