    Such a good looking sedan. Agreed, this 3 is crying for a 6 spd manual. Great review!

      Volkswagen JTI has a 6speed manual transmission and has more options for the price. For $30,278 For $34,500 get a Golf GTI 6 speed hatch loaded and have a lot more fun .😊

    Long or short...your videos are never dull! I appreciate the videography and especially your clean, clear sound recording. Your elocution is flawless, too! I can listen at twice the speed if I'm in a hurry, and your voice and speech are perfectly intelligible. Being an old retired guy, though...I'm rarely in a hurry. Mahalo for the years of high quality automotive entertainment!

    Your reviews are one of the most real world and honest. No one is tracking their Mazda 3 or even their BMW X6 so why be flooring the gas and slamming the brakes between lights. People drive to the limits ( so the police can let them continue to drive) and only once in a while test the limits. Comfort, noise level, features you cover the real world wants. Cheers!

    Shorter videos are fine. It made sense for the red/green light segment when the videos were longer. I actually got the Mazda3 Preferred FWD in red. I like most of the features of the Carbon turbo just not the color.

      Yeah, I love most small Mazdas, but whatever the marketers call this color, it’s still tan. It’s fine, I guess, but a distinctive car deserves a distinctive color.

    I kinda like red light - green light as a recap/summary. You could probably trim it to a sentence or two that incorporates the headline pros and cons in a "Home Straightaway" segment or something like that in keeping with the automotive theme. In any case, always appreciate your work Tom. You're awesome!

    First YT of yours I watched several years ago was the Chevy Trax 2015 and made me a subscriber. Your pieces are always well done but rarely feel bloated. The videos I tend to skip are those for cars with extremely high prices. Have always enjoyed your 'road trip' adventures. Keep up the good work but remember even the most top tier reviewer can't make any pure EV seem exciting.

    Good reviews, I do like them shorter. A car review that goes on for 25-30 minutes start to lose me. I took a technica) writing class in college (50 plus years ago) & I've never forgot my papers coming back with red marks over extra words. Same should apply with video.

  • @TinLeadHammer
    @TinLeadHammer หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is definitely a better format, shorter and to the point. Green light / red light was just a TLDR for those who did now care to watch a video itself. It was not your trademark feature. If anything was and is your trademark feature is "show not tell" with "this...", "this..." and "this...". As for the car, I like it, a stylish compact sedan with AWD and real instruments.

    I think Red Light / Green Light served to make these videos more efficient. If someone’s looking to gather information about a segment like this one, for example, it would take a long time to just find and watch 15 minute videos about each. If you know you like Tom’s point of view, though, you can skip to the Red Light / Green Light section to determine if the car ought to be short-listed. Then if you have short-listed two or three models, I think the longer format is great! Any new or late-model used car costs tens of thousands of dollars. I want insights before pulling the trigger. Every little capsule review will tell you the Mazda has snappy handling but isn’t real quiet. That’s Red light / Green light stuff; assuming that’s fine, I want to know more.

    Tom, I’m puzzled by the floor hump in the backseat. Isn’t this car AWD “on demand” via a distinct motor driving the rear wheels? So no drive line to a rear axle? Why a big hump then?

    Tom, as nice as the exterior color is, do you think Mazda could have added at least 2 more colors to the car? The interior is fine, but a nice Mazda metallic blue 🔵 or deep gray would add depth to the Carbon trim. Shoot, even a simple red 🔴 would help brighten up the showroom/lot. Single color trims are a tough sell. Even Honda gave their manual Accord Coupes 3 colors to choose from (black, silver, red) IIRC. I still miss the 3rd pedal. This carbon turbo trim would be a great GLI or SI killer if Mazda put their "Zoom-Zoom" or "Soul of a sportscar" mantra behind it.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The armchair product planner in me understands the cost savings of simplifying offerings (it can be a lot). The Mazda fan in me wants Soul Red Crystal paint. The manual is probably not up to handle the torque of the turbo, so there's that.

    On my second mazda 3 turbo premium. I wished it was available with a manual, but the automatic is smooth shifting and responds quickly. Not the most economical with fuel, but I still prefer it over my 2018 civic because of the premium feeling of the interior. The hatchback trunk is smaller because of the plastic and sound deadening on the sides.

    I appreciated how XM had basically become ubiquitous, so I find it annoying that some automakers are now relegating it to top trims. I like not needing my phone or its data to listen to what I want.
    I realize that all cars are more expensive, but I still find it difficult to accept that this car has a price well into the 30s, even without the top option package. It's nice, but oof! A manual would make it more appealing.
    For me, 11-to-12 minutes is a sweet spot for video length. If it's much longer, it often ends up in "watch later" and sometimes never gets watched. I don’t miss red light, green light at all. I am, however, concerned over the whereabouts of evil twin. He might be evil, but I still hope he’s okay.

    AWD seems like a cost-added, problem/maintenance-added waste for this type of vehicle IMO. Otherwise, great vehicle (minus that awful paint color) if you know how to properly maintain & drive/treat a turbo engine compared to a regular naturally-aspirated engine. They require special care/treatment if you expect them to last a long time.

    Glad to see Tom do a mainstream vehicle that's not a Kia/Hyundai. I think Tom's channel could improve views with more reviews like this. I don't think he has gotten around to doing a Cx-50, but lost track at how many Kona's he's done. Wish he would push for fewer top of the spec trims. He did both the top level GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado which seemed like a huge miss not to have done at least one with a more mainstream trim level.

    Why would you choose this carbon model when you could get their gorgeous red in another model.

    Longer better - miss the one more thing at the end - guessing brother getting the Axe !!.. stick to your guns - dance with the one who brought you!! Just my two thoughts.. cheers Allan

      The "one that brought me" had no RLGL or Evil Twin. And those original videos were 6-7 minutes long. So there's that.

      @@DrivenCarReviews funny I don’t recall those - anyway , you’re one of the few Critics left- even if you have a blink and you’ll miss it delivery style”., My fear is in attempting to please “ Marxist Millennialism, a vile mental disorder that transcends age groups “.. You’ll become “ yet another Spec list reader ( why the industry is collapsing “ in my humble opinion.. I’ll even give a Go No go list of reasons as explained by my twin sister :).. Cheers, Allan

      @@reserva120 I don't do demographics or just read specs. I'm here because I like doing the reviews I'd want to see if I were shopping for a car. The aim has always been like going out on a test drive with friends over a cup of coffee. Focus benefits everyone.

    Tom I think your loyal viewers would all prefer longer not shorter videos because..... you rock man!

      Not sure I rock 20 minutes worth though. At that point I'm tired of myself.

    Moving up market is complete BS, its just marketing excuse for charging more.. As a designer/student we know marking! Nice review though :)

      Put this up against a Corolla and there's a big difference in driving dynamics and interior materials. As a designer/student you should know good marketing is backing up the claims that are made.

    Darn, was hoping Mazada would offer a manual as a special edition option for the turbo.
