      We have to stop relying on the government teachers, relatives, t.v., counselors, etc., to raise our kids. That’s a lazy parents way out! That young girl standing up there with smile on her face like she’s proud becase she’s been to rehab 4 times. Someone needs to explain to this child, she shouldn’t be proud she’s been to rehab 4 times! That’s the parent’s responsibility straight-up!!

      The government has nothing to do with the failure of black families. USA is the richest country on earth there is no reason for blacks people to give excuses for this failure. We need to step up our game, get an education or own a business.

      I don’t know. Most people I’ve ever known on drugs or dealing with it need multiple stints in treatment and counseling. Meanwhile they lapse and rob, steal and kill. My aunt was one of them. Wished they’d lock her up she might still be alive.

    • @CMM726
      @CMM726 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@meganmartin2037 I think part of the problem our government has had in tackling issues like drug addiction, poverty, and domestic violence is due to the fact that For the longest time, the majority of people in positions of power that dictate public policy were rich White men. They don’t understand what’s causing a person to become addicted to drugs like that. They may have had a happy suburban life growing up. So they may perceive a homeless addict as someone who just chooses to be an asshole, and their solution to that in the past was harsh punishment. They thought “let’s see how they like sitting in jail. I bet they won’t do that again.” But we know how well the war on drugs worked out! This is because we now know that addiction is the symptom, not the disease itself. The cycle of poverty and oppression causes people to feel hopeless. I think the fact that someone like judge Mathis has made it to become a judge and tv show gives me hope, because he’s got the platform to explain these things to the masses. It takes forever for real change to ever occur in government, but I’m hoping to see some positive changes in the future. Although, seeing how 2020 is going, maybe that’s a bit too optimistic.

She had it ruff growing up herself and didn't really have guidance herself so what was she going to be able to give to her daughters??? What the world needs is love, we all need each other. It really does take a village to raise a child and unless folks are ready to roll their sleeves up and get their hands dirty to be a part of that village, they should not be so quick to point fingers. That girl needs a higher level of treatment than outpatient. She needs inpatient residential for at least 3-6 months THEN an IOP (intensive outpatient) like the judge was speaking on followed by the NA meetings he spoke of. In the meetings she can build a network & a foundation & even get a sponsor who acts as a mentor to guide her through the 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous.
    I truly pray that she finds a way out. I once WAS her, minus all the jail stuff, but the judge did the same to my mother over something petty when my kids SHOULD have been with her. I fought like hell to get them back and went through the aforementioned process. It wasn’t easy, but if I can do it...she/anyone can. I haven’t drank or used since 8/8/17. We DO recover! There’s enough of a stigma attached to addiction as it is, all these courts do is further perpetuate it by failing ppl at every turn.

I sadly knew a girl who would just throw her friends out of her car too. It's such a sad situation. Society does treat people different. It's awful. she wasn't raised by a mother and had a father that couldn't parent well. that may have affected her ability to mother. then, there is no mention of a father for her daughters. statistically, children brought up in single mother households are more likely to do drugs, have kids out of wedlock, get divorced, end up in prison. a mother and a father in the house are dire to the development of a child.

    As much as I understand the Judge’s sentiment, expecting a system that was never designed to take care of all equally and responsibly is getting old. The mom could have made better decisions in regards to how she raised her daughter. Just because the young lady is smart, doesn’t mean she’s equipped to handle life’s woes. The onus is on the mother ultimately. Fuck the system! BE the system that equips your child beyond high school, especially when you’re aware of a cycle within your own lineage!
