My dad is the drummer… I seriously doubt they straight up copied iron butterfly since theirs came out the same year as In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Anyway, they were a thousands times cooler being a real 60’s garage band! ✌️my opinion only! 😉

🎉🎉 cheers to your dad!! I heard The first two songs on this album on a bootleg CD called Florida, New Mexico punk. My roommate had the disk, and I immediately recorded it to cassette. This was in 2000. interestingly, enough, the CD also had Lincoln Street exit, and other really good bands whose names I don’t remember. Another band I heard on yt recently called iota is also on that compilation, but they’re from El Paso Texas.
So many moves and stuff in storage over all these years… one day I’ll get to hear that tape again!
My regards to your dad and the band!!
I’m thinking your dad was different than most dads!

@@TEXAS.N8V He is pretty cool to me! I still love psychedelic music to this day, especially if I hear an organ in there! I think one of their songs played on the radio in Texas once a long time ago! 😁

I don't think they did at all. I can hear some similarities here and there mainly with the Vox organ and the vocals but overall it's just the sound everyone was doing. Really cool album. Nice and raw. Totally garage.

Better than Iron Butterfly. Its a shame alot of these bands didn't get any airplay to compete with the top 40 bands that were pushed at the time.

Great stuff! This is not your typical psych rock album. By the band name I expected this to be rather some happy trippin' hippie music, but in fact it's quite dark for 1968, darker overall than contemporaries The Doors or Iron Butterfly. It has a "gothic" feel to it -- not in the stylistical sense of later goth rock, but atmospherically. At times there also seems to be a bit of proto doom metal in the mix.

can you suggest any other rare psych, acid folk type albums that have a slow darkness like this? not the typical sf stuff, have heard a lot of rare british stuff, but am really interested in music akin to this. a haunting sound.

My comments are not too flattering. Blade is an unabashed Iron Butterfly clone with shades of Heavy's IB Theme / Possession right down to mimicking Doug Ingle's organ style and voice inflections. The rest of this "album" continues in the same vein and quite frankly it sounds like a rehearsal session a huge departure from their singles which have some originality.

they sound like they were heavily influenced by iron butterfly being from texas im surprised they were not on the lelan rogers international lable from texas golden dawn 13th floor elevators red krayola lost and found bubble puppy was also on that label ,i think it was out of huston but one of the coolest record labels in the 60s .this record checks all the boxes its pysch garage pretty good
