@@WestCoastFloridaFishing So basically the vanford is a stradic FL with lighter body? If not whats difference between the 2? Thanks for a great walk through!
Shinkiro That is pretty close! It’s a Stradic FL with the Ci4+ Carbon body and rotor. With the MGL rotor on the Vanford you have less startup inertia energy needed therefore making it a lighter feel when you spin the handle.. you also have the weight reduction from the Ci4+ and you also have the addition of one extra ball bearing in the Vanford!
Ordered one of these same aftermarket knobs for my brand new Vanford's( 2500 & 4000). Took the cap's off and the phillips screw just spins in place and will not back out either one of my reel handles. Anyone else had this issue?
Hi there great channel and instructional video. I have just purchased the 2500HG model and would like to upgrade ASAP. Do you have the spec and sizes of all bearings needed for this upgrade...advice would be gratefully appreciated.....👍
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy the channel and the video! Everything in this video is the exact same specs and sizes for the 2500 Vanford so everything I do in this video would work for your 2500 or a 3000 sized Vanford!
Good video! But few remarks i can say: 1) Rotor retaining bushing and bearing don't have same inner size. To replace this bushing correctly, you need original Stella's part(bearing with integrated brass bushing), or use thin bushing(just like old Daiwa's have) 2) If you have high quality bearing to put in spool(NMB DDL series or EZO stainless), better put it inside reel, as second drive gear's bearing. In new reels shimano use few very cheap bearings(right drive gear bearing, head rotor bearing). This cheap bearing from drive gear ideal for spool support. 3)No need put bearing inside oscillation pawl, this downgrade! This assembly with rubber damper helps reel works quietly. Even Stella and Vanquish have no bearing inside this place. 4) You do worm shaft upgrade wrong. This is proper order: 3x5x0.1 mm bushing->2x5x2.5mm bearing->plastic gear->worm shaft->metal spring bushing->3x6x2.5mm bearing->4x6mm washer, and then plate. 3x6x2.5 bearing has bigger size than bushing you replace, and you need to remove plastic washers to compensate it, left only metal washer. If you don't put 3x5mm washer first, and 4x6mm washer at the end, your bearings not work correctly. Also, using spacers, you can add one more bearing inside line roller.
Мамонтов Павел Well you know a ton about this stuff! Awesome information! I will say though that the oscillation paw in the Stella does have a bearing because that is what I used to upgrade my reel, I used the Stella Schematic so maybe it missing something there. And also I would need to buy many shims to shim that worm gear perfectly I didn’t even know! Thank you for all of your information!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing You wellcome! It is true, that some old models of Stella have this bearing, but 18 Stella and new Vanquish doesn't. This rubber ring at pawl need to remove "clicks" when pawl reach ends of worm shaft. About shims-every bearing need touch any surface one ring at time. For example, end of worm shaft-metal curved washer fits and lock inner ring of bearing, so after bearing you need to put washer fits outer ring of bearing. If don't plate surface touch both inner and outer ring, and block bearing rotation. As well first 2x5x2.5mm bearing lock inner ring by plastic gear and worm shaft, so better pur a shim(and also because bushing have bigger size, need to compensate). And i should say, that sometimes you don't need a shim before 2x5x2.5 bearing, but always need after 3x6x2.5. Make shure after upgrade, that your worm shaft have free moving and technical space, and curved washer still curved. Sorry for my bad english.
Мамонтов Павел your English is pretty good!! And alright I’ll take that into consideration next time! Everything feels great on the reel now but if I feel something I’ll open it up and make a video about it!
Yeah it’s intense for sure but it’s not game changing. It feels better but not a lot better so it’s totally okay if you take the easy route and add an extra bearing under the spool support and the lower worm gear! Those are pretty helpful upgrades and don’t take much work to accomplish!
One thing I'm not sure about is the upgrade of the rotor retaining nut. The brass bushing with a o-ring on the outside is replaced for a ball bearing without o-ring on the outside. My worry is that this creates more clearance. Another thing that worries me is the fact that the main shaft runs up and down through the inner ring of the ball bearing creating axial load instead of radial load. Also the material of the ball bearing could be damaging the main shaft. In my opinion there is a sleeve bearing in this position because of the rotating and linear motion of the mainshaft. On the other hand if this is exactly the same as the Stella it should work fine 🤔. Curious how this part of the upgrade will do after a good field test. Please let us know! Thanks! 👊
Robert de Jonge I completely see where you’re coming from and it will not make a difference in smoothness in my opinion.. there isn’t more clearance as the brass bushing was reallllyyg tight with that seal. And I know I completely agree but here is the Stella Schematic: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2300/2455/files/STLC3000XGFI.pdf?12260947669904273612 There will be an entire video on the reel first time fishing with it so I will definitely let you guys know! As far as that bearing upgrade is concerned.. (my opinion) that upgrade seems to not help much and isn’t truly worth the time and money 🤷🏽♂️ buttt I could be wrong. We will find out in a field test!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing Thanks for the schematic :) I really hope everything goes well, but looking at the drawing you send it should be ok! Thanks again for your video's and replies. Looking forward to your next video! Tight lines 👊
Robert de Jonge youre welcome buddy! And thanks I hope so too! And yeah I think it should go good! And you’re welcome! Thanks for all the comments and input! Thanks dude! Tight lines!!
Because the main shaft doesn’t rotate and the spool doesn’t sit on the spool bearing is it worth the upgrade? I guess the same question applies to the brass bush in the brass nut below. The shaft simply moves up and down through that.
That’s a good question. When the spool spins and is under load I would believe it would help slightly. But I’m not quite sure. I definitely agree that the rotor retaining nut bearing is not important.
It’s not the same size unfortunately. That’s I the same size as the 1000 reel which o have a video on that I produced with the Stradic FL that would be the same!
Saw another guy do this and he put one of the 2 shims at the rear of the worm gear in front of the bearing and one behind. Said the retaining plate can interfere with bearing otherwise. Makes sense
Hi! Thx for great video, talented job step by step. Please help me if You can, how can i find the bearings sizes for my 4000 Vanfords. I love these reels, but watched Your video and hope for tune it up. Best regards, Vik
You would have to remove the bushings out of the reel and measure them to have them replaced I have not done a 4000 unfortunately! If you compare the bushing part numbers with the 3000 schematic you saw in this video then you can get some easy bearing part numbers!
Great video. I learned a lot from this. Question: Can I do the bearing upgrade on a Sustian FL and the shimano Twin Power FD and the newer XD versions, and are the ball bearings the same part numbers. Thank you
I have a Vandford 2500 HG and everything worked great . My question is the shims on the Oscillating bearings the same for the 2500 Hg as the 3000 in your video . Thank you for the videos they are very informative
Every time I try to fix a reel, it doesn’t work the same way as before. Maybe I miss placed some of the small parts. I don’t try to fix it anymore, I just send it in to get it repaired and pay a fee
hello guys! First of all, a very nice video, it help you a lot if you want to understand how to upgrade and how a shimano reel work. Second of all I want a link to buy shim for 2x5x2.5 bearing and 3x6x2.5 bearing. Thank you in advance. Have a nice day.

Will do my friend! And it should be... Just make sure you order the correct spool support for the 4000 and parts check the bushings between each other! If the 3000 Schematic has the same bushing number as the 1000 and 4000 for that part, It will fit!! Good luck my friend and stay tuned for the next video!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing Question I have a Vanford 4000xg. I would like to do the bearing upgrade that you have shown. Comparing my 4000 to your 3000, the only thing that looks similar is the upper and lower worm gear bushings. Which Stella model/year would I compare my 4000 to match the bearings. i need to talk with you abot some upgrade fix.. to make it short can i use shiman o vanford c300 hg parts in a 2500 f.. like body and side plate ( it works feels like a hig gear 2500 now but havent tried on the water yet.....and i took a bearing from shimano sustain 2500 f and replace spool support busing.. it seems to fit but is it the same?
What a selling point for these parts to be included in the reel. I noticed some of the parts were from the same country the reel was made. I guess you could pay 1000 dollars for a 3000 series reel and still find uptrades...
I have a video posted already for the 1000 Stradic FL! And yes Shimano removed them from the website and you can no longer get them without emailing them so I removed the not working link
@@outlawsys1 dang! Good to know. Honestly after doing the upgrade multiple times some with the slider done and some without it’s such minute difference I wouldn’t worry about trying to upgrade it. On my personal reels I do not upgrade the oscillating slider bushing to a bearing because you go from 1 bushing to 1 bushing and 1 bearing and there’s not a large difference between the two.
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing Alright I have 5 reels to upgrade 3 Stradic 1000FL HG's, 1 Stradic CI4 1000 HG, 1 Vanford C3000XG I'll order the oscillating for all 5 down the road. Hey bud, great vids. Any chance you could do a layout of the Shimano line? Models keep changing and upgrading, and sometimes it’s hard to understand what the $25, $50, or $75 difference gets you. A bearing for $8 seems to be worth $50 in reel models!
Any thoughts on why the Vanford requires RD2298 (oscillating slider spacers) when the Stradic FL doesn’t? Seems like they would be the same and that was the only difference I noticed between the two videos. Thx!
Thanks for the great video, gives me the confidence to have a go. You now have another subscriber and will check out your other vids. I read elsewhere that the XG is EXtra gear and has a higher retrieve rate than the HG version. Also the HG only has felt drag washers in the 3000 model.
@@johndeak4222 oh wow. I didn’t even know that there was a difference between the drag on the HG and the XG… that’s great thanks man! The parts will fit in that reel by the way!
I would draw the line on probably 40+ pound class. If you were to get much bigger than that I think the internals would be under a constant load of high stress and probably wear the reel down pretty quick. Thanks for the awesome question dude.

One of the main differences is that the 3000 Vanford has carbon fiber frag washers and the 2500 has felt washers. Other than that the other differences are the spool depth and capacity and the handle knob!

Ordered one of these same aftermarket knobs for my brand new Vanford's( 2500 & 4000). Took the cap's off and the phillips screw just spins in place and will not back out either one of my reel handles. Anyone else had this issue?
I have seen this once. Unfortunately I did not find a fix for this. :/ sorry you had this issue!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing I guess the only fix would be to drill it out and replace the shaft and screw that the bearing/bushing and knob sits on.
Please can you tell me where I can get all the upgrades including the gomexus handle for my new vanford f c3000 reel .
They are all in the description below the video.
Watch the Benford upgrade video.
Thank you.
I have one question.
Can I know where to sell oscillating sider bushings?
home page?
Shimano removed them from the website! I would just skip that upgrade as it doesn’t do much and it’s a pain to find those parts! Good luck!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing do you know if it will work for the 2000 size?
Good video! But few remarks i can say:
1) Rotor retaining bushing and bearing don't have same inner size. To replace this bushing correctly, you need original Stella's part(bearing with integrated brass bushing), or use thin bushing(just like old Daiwa's have)
2) If you have high quality bearing to put in spool(NMB DDL series or EZO stainless), better put it inside reel, as second drive gear's bearing.
Whats correct shiming and bearing worm shaft please. And which reel referans reel for worm shaft, 2019 vanquish or Stella Fj
@@МамонтовПавел-т5ш what bearing upgrades will have the most impact like which ones are most important?
Do you know the part number or have a link for a line roller for a vanford 3k? the line roler on mine is locked up and needs replaced. thanks
This update is intense. Wish there was a place you could take the reel to these mods done.
Yeah it’s intense for sure but it’s not game changing. It feels better but not a lot better so it’s totally okay if you take the easy route and add an extra bearing under the spool support and the lower worm gear! Those are pretty helpful upgrades and don’t take much work to accomplish!
Would the bearing model numbers be different for the 4000?
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing have you tried ceramic bearings instead of the stainless steel?
Be a man. You have an entire video in front of you face.
You probably weren’t good with legos either were you...?
And I know I completely agree but here is the Stella Schematic: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2300/2455/files/STLC3000XGFI.pdf?12260947669904273612
There will be an entire video on the reel first time fishing with it so I will definitely let you guys know!
Another commenter Mamohtob. Wrote a in depth reply. Check it out. What do you think about it?
Sick I might have to do this. Going to watch the guy you shot out idk any thing about upgrading spools going to watch a couple
Yeah dude it’s worth a try if you have some extra time and patience to tinker!
I have vanford 1000. Do u have ant idea which shimano reel schematic i should follow to upgrade/add the bearings? Thanks.
You’re best bet is the stella FJ 1000. Good luck!
So on the oscillator paw... does it go...
Spacer > bearing > spacer > bushing
? Since you had 2 spacers, was the bearing sandwiched between them?
hi friend, I just bought the vanford c2000 it is the bearing same size with the c3000? I'm really interested your video try to upgrade myself 😊
Makes sense
That would make sense to me! I’ll have to check that out!
Hi!
Thx for great video, talented job step by step.
Please help me if You can, how can i find the bearings sizes for my 4000 Vanfords.
I love these reels, but watched Your video and hope for tune it up.
Best regards,
Vik
You would have to remove the bushings out of the reel and measure them to have them replaced I have not done a 4000 unfortunately! If you compare the bushing part numbers with the 3000 schematic you saw in this video then you can get some easy bearing part numbers!
How do I figure out how to choose the correct bearing size for a 4000 or 5000 reel?
Was looking forward to this. Great job!
waqar javed Awesome man!! Thanks for your support!!
Great video. I learned a lot from this. Question: Can I do the bearing upgrade on a Sustian FL and the shimano Twin Power FD and the newer XD versions, and are the ball bearings the same part numbers. Thank you

Yes it should be the same parts!
What a selling point for these parts to be included in the reel. I noticed some of the parts were from the same country the reel was made. I guess you could pay 1000 dollars for a 3000 series reel and still find uptrades...
Can I use the parts listed for my stradic FL 1000 btw the parts for the Oscillating Slider Bearing spacers don't see them listed
I have a video posted already for the 1000 Stradic FL! And yes Shimano removed them from the website and you can no longer get them without emailing them so I removed the not working link
The slider bushing are backordered until may 2021 which sucks need 5 of them.

Hey bud, great vids. Any chance you could do a layout of the Shimano line? Models keep changing and upgrading, and sometimes it’s hard to understand what the $25, $50, or $75 difference gets you. A bearing for $8 seems to be worth $50 in reel models!
Thanks for the compliment buddy! I could definitely try to add that to the list of videos! You just want the true differences between the models?
Any thoughts on why the Vanford requires RD2298 (oscillating slider spacers) when the Stradic FL doesn’t? Seems like they would be the same and that was the only difference I noticed between the two videos. Thx!

2500 enough
One of the main differences is that the 3000 Vanford has carbon fiber frag washers and the 2500 has felt washers. Other than that the other differences are the spool depth and capacity and the handle knob!
@@mrpro6205 for some people it can be!
The handle knob is different
