Bass fishing in Chichester Harbour at Copperas Point

  • Sea fishing in Chichester Harbour at Copperas Point on the advice of a local angler. Andy and I were targeting school bass hoping for something a little bigger. We fished two hours down on the ebb and then all the way back in.
    Wind was north easterly about 15 miles per hour with sunny intervals. Tried using a spinning rod but a little weedy. We fished this time over mud and shingle gaps in the weed and were successful. Bait used was harbour rag and common lug. Andy also fished a free lined sprat in the tide.
    We caught fish all schoolies and not the larger ones that we could see swimming in the shallows hitting small fry.

    Hi paul you ok mate. All this dog shite must change your luck soon. Enjoyed the vid as uze. The way the fish gods have been with me the last 4 or 5 weeks i would of been well pleased. I was out yesterday and blanked again . Went behind the football ground near docks were i always catch . Even the crabs wasn't hungry baits coming bk as sent them out. I think the summer specias moving out and the cod and whiting waiting to arrive is the excuse ive got. I cant remember having so many blanks ever. Are part of the humber fishes best mid september to march so i no my run will change. Any all the best mate from grimsby.

      Hi Carl shame you didn’t catch and really understand the frustration as you look forward,plan, get bait, pack and travel and all the excitement on the first few casts with the anticipation that goes with it. I am always happy to be out in the sea air away from the walking poo factory 😂😂am at work and next weekend going to Shoreham chasing undulates 🤞🤞🤞cheers from down south and my prayers have been sent to the fish gods on your behalf cheers Paul👍👍🐠🐠

    Another great video Paul . Loved the episode about dog poo and wife’s comments. Mine would have said “ you should have looked where you are going” Nothing wrong with the rods. Pleased to see the number of subscribers now. Keep the videos coming and your tales of woe.

      Hi Martin good to hear from you and thanks for the fish report and heads up really appreciate it. I haven’t caught a cod for over two years and that is one fish I would keep if sizeable. And yep fishing is contrary and can change on a sixpence🤞🤞🤞glad I have a fan in your wife and make her laugh and a little bit of comedy I think we could all do with in these strange times. No doubt when I get out Saturday will have a few more tales of life’s adventures and challenges of too work shortly best regards and we will have a fish together when you are free. Am going to have another crack at the east arm this Saturday with Andy and maybe Ross if not raining as he dissolves in the wet 😂😂😂take care cheers Paul 🐠🐠👍👍

    Wow, they have got even smaller. We used to fish there every summer in the 70's and catch the nursery bass up to about 3lb on ragworm. In the 80's we noticed them smaller and the 90's even the more so. I last fished there about 2004 -2006 and there were none over 1.5lbs. It appears they are now only a few ounces. I wonder why this is?

      Hi fellow thanks for taking the time to watch my video and comment really appreciated. I have fished now over 40 years and steadily seen the beach fishing size/catch’s get steadily worse. Many reasons no doubt I have now been fishing the last seven weekends and again today both during day and night with fresh bait and today finally caught some fish. All my fish are returned as do most beach fishermen occasionally keeping a couple for the table. Today I watched very large beam trawlers close in going up and down in front of me possibly overfishing who knows. Take care cheers Paul 👍🐠🐠🐠

      @@SeaFishingWithPaul Unfortunately, the British government only see our fishing as a money-maker and have never really protected it. They sold it to Europe in 1972 and just when we thought Brexit would end the regime, Boris gave it back for another 5 years, just for the the world's largest trawlers to hoover it clean. Just a shame, if your sea-fishing years fell into this chapter, like mine has. I actually witnessed the downfall first hand. Those fish I used to catch from Cornwall to Yarmouth are just not there anymore. It seems that just undersize fish and flatfish seem to escape the nets. I've been out with the commercials from Newlyn and they have witnessed the same. I don't feel fish like the original monkfish (Squatina Squatina), cod, turbot, brill, etc will come back to those areas they were once known for here in Sussex.

      @@ironix1 Sounds like you and I are from the same fishing era and year on year have seen a distressing and depressing decline all about greed and one day there will be very limited fish stocks then what I wonder. Everyone in government seems to blame every one else. Iceland and Norway have plentiful fish stocks but they are managed very differently.
      We need no fish zones methinks 👍

    I've not been sea fishing for years. Really fancy having a go spinning for some mackerel. Any suggestions?

    • @SeaFishingWithPaul
      @SeaFishingWithPaul  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi fellow if after mackerel simple is the key. I always cut any feathers or shiny lures in two i.e. fish three hooks instead of six easier to manage if landing fish. There are many variations of mackerel lures on the market. Go for a light spinning rod and reel and if fishing single lures may be a chance for a bass. Fish incoming tide and preferably towards high, keep an eye on fishing reports and now is the time for mackerel good luck 🤞
