    Of course they were neither capitalist nor communists nor socialists in the modern sense, for such words and ideologies were not yet coined. But nor were they English nationalists or racialists. Clearly this is about class war, as it took place in pre-industrial feudal societies. But yes, there is stuff here to inspire modern folk who love freedom.

      Ri dan If you read Gerrard Winstanley's works you'll find that he put forward a very complete and well-reasoned socialist economic theory, a hundred-and-fifty years before Marx and Engels and far more radical!

    • @ridanann
      @ridanann 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Gardiner whats marx an engels got to do with daggers/ levellers hmm "communism" idk to me its abit apples an oranges. like the daggers/ levers had the religious stuff going on as opposed to secularism of 19th century communism. an the religious side of guys like winstanley are sorta why brehon law isnt around anymore. i dont know if ur religious an theres nothing wrong with u if u are. but surly ud rather a secular legal system like pre cromwellian ireland had. i mean u dont wona go to jail for working on a sunday or eating pork or any of that stuff eh lol. of course more winstanleys an less cromwells an id of voted whig myself he was a good fella but he hung around with old iron balls lol.btw im watching ur video hmm interesting. slante

    • @DavidGardiner
      @DavidGardiner 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Ri dan As I said, you need to read what Winstanley's actual proposals were. He believed that all exploitation and domination of one person by another sprang from our use of money, tokens that stand for the goods and services that everybody needs. Get rid of money and the whole idea of ownership, either of people or things, and you could have a free acquisition economy in which all people were truly equal. The riches of the world belong to all, and all should cooperate in the filling of humanity's needs. It was far more radical than Marxist communism and he also intended it to grow from the bottom up, without violence or coercion. He wanted to lead by example, small communes first, then when others saw how good it was they would follow. Yes Winstanley was a Christian but his social theories didn't depend on that. They sprang from a perfectly practical vision of a human Utopia. Read 'A Common Treasury', which is the writings of Winstanley edited by Tony Benn: www.amazon.co.uk/Common-Treasury-Revolutions-Gerrard-Winstanley/dp/1844675955

    • @ridanann

      David Gardiner tony benn winstanley an economic fuckery i think im gona like u mo cara lol. i should probably give more time to english anarchists im a big fan of edward carpenter. but hmm the links of english politics to our struggle as gaels makes me a wee bit apprehensive.. i like oscar wilde an quote the soul of man alot i sort of see him as a neo brehon a sort of common sense guiding light. an common sense i would say says build it an they as in we will come. a small community of free acquisition sounds grand iv often thought of just taking some land but im not orange lol. so how to get the land peacefully seems the issue.
      an in ur video u say religious bigotry coursed the troubles. really idk i worry more about politics i mean i dont like the catholic church but i like Catholics an iv never had the misfortune of being around an orange man in July so idk. but id say politics got sands killed not religion but i didnt grow up in eire..

'Winning the hearts and minds', 'strategic hamlets', 'domino theory'. All State Dept spin. I was on my own. The preacher was a great guy, BTW. One of the best I've ever heard. YOu find a lot of weird rhymes that used to work when reading/listening to old poetry.
      "Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
      In the forests of the night;
      What immortal hand or eye,
      Could frame thy fearful symmetry?"
      'Eye' and 'symmetry' should NOT rhyme, and yet they did in the 18th century.

    • @alexv3357
      @alexv3357 8 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Actually, that's one of the main ways we figure out how old languages and dialects were pronounced: by looking at rhymes. That's part of how we learned what ancient Latin sounded like.

      A lot of Shakespeare is like that too. From Sonnet 116:

      I never writ, nor no man ever loved. "

    • @MajorHorrigan
      @MajorHorrigan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I know it is super late to comment on this but what you talking about in this instance is a so called "eye rhyme" were despite a similar appearance the words do NOT actually sound alike.
      It is sometimes used for additional emphasis and considering the rhymed word is "symmetry" there seems to be rather deliberate play with the dichotomy of using that word at the exact place the poem doesnt rhyme here.

      That song is written to the tune of the classical Scottish folk song "Ye Jacobites by name", written by Robert Burns. While the tunes are somewhat similar, they are certainly not the same.

      yes its the same tune, called 'Captain Kidd' I think. It seems to have been much used over the years especially for protest songs. Also adapted for the hymn tune 'Wondrous Love'. Its a very powerful simple melody.

    ....Gathering people who wants to be a part of building a network of stable, fully self sustaining and self sufficient communities (a.k.a. life-boats for the coming environmental collapse). Peaceful communities that are built upon foundation of : love, spirituality, mercy, generosity, tolerance, intelligent, and wisdom. If you are interested in becoming a part of this grass root efforts, We encourage your reply.
    This Community ARK Project is looking for peaceful, patience, humble, and kind-hearted people who are awaken and aware of the coming environmental collapse; who want to roll up their sleeves and participate in preparatory efforts. One cannot pull someone out of a raging river standing on a muddy slippery slope. In order to pull someone out of the river, one must stand on a firm solid foundation. A fully self-sufficient community is that solid foundation, upon which we stand in order to rescue other less fortunate who will be affected by the collapsing environment. If people are struggling to survive as the environment collapses, how can they help others? People need fully self-sufficient communities to shelter and nourish them, in order for them to reach out and help others.
    We are gathering people from all spectrum of professional background: engineers, scientists, architects, biologists, farmers, doctors, nurses, artists, etc. Both skilled and unskilled people. Those with knowledge will teach those who lack them. Those not in the know will listen and learn so they might in turn teach others in the community. We have spent 6 years researching technology that were designed to allow Mars colonies to thrive in a desolate environment. We are now planning on using those very same technology to prepare people for the coming environmental collapse. If you are interested in helping out, we could use the help to reach the ears of people who are awaken through social media, or you can read our blog titled "Generalized Plan of Actions" for a list of tasks you can volunteer for.
    (Note: this is a gathering process and NOT a recruitment process. When one recruit, one is trying to convince others to join a cause; well, someone else can always come along and convince people to join a different cause. But when one gather, one is speaking to those of like mind who do not need convincing; in their hearts and in their thoughts, they recognize the catastrophe that lay ahead if our modern societies continue on their current path of promoting competition, strife, ignorance and scarcity. This Community ARK Project is lighting a beacon so that those with similar mind set will know that they are not alone in their thoughts and impulses; that there are others like them out there who desire to come together to pool our effort in order to EXTRACT ourselves and place ourselves on a different path. One that promote cooperation, harmony, foresight, and a nurturing environment.)
