just purchased this saw, still shiny and new, havent had a chance to use it yet but I also purchased 5 blades so should keep me going for awhile...live in the states and bought the 18v version.....not setup for the 40v yet
And I’m over here in the ole us of an and trying to get a small Japanese tool shop to carry blades in California… what did you end up getting for a replacement blade.. thanks in advance!
This is what I normally get. It's the roughest 125mm blade, but still pretty good for finishing. There are some finer tooth ones, but they're more expensive and i don't need them. You can get them on Amazon Japan as well. www.ebay.com/itm/395231707318
I wonder if the 5-3/8” blades available in North America would fit this saw. About an 11.5mm difference, so I guess if there’s 6mm of clearance on the 125mm it should work.
I suspect they won't fit or work properly. We can get 135mm metal cutting blades here, but I think the arbor is a different size. There's also not much clearance around the blade to clear chips. Let me know if you give it a go though.
@@nakedapprentice I definitely will if I end up ordering one. Worth a go. I just got the 10-1/4", which is a 270mm there. That's a 10mm bigger blade you get. Of course, I'm sure there's more room on a saw this size.
I thought about getting a 270 after toolsandstuff reviewed it. I only needed it for ripping some 4 inch rimu studs for my blkitchen bench top, so couldn't justify the cost. I persisted with the 185 for that, but man it was hard on the batteries. I'd get about 3 rips and they would overheat.
@@nakedapprentice thanks for that, can i ask did you have to "square the base plate", as it seems as though it doesn't cut true/straight..i watched tools and stuff and they mentioned it but didn't show how to do it as there are multiple screws to choose from...thanks in advance. ps good to hear James is on the mend
Do you mean straight front to back? I'll have a look tonight and do a little video in it if I figure it out. I know there is one to set 0 degrees plumb, but I keep forgetting to set it.
Yup, James is doing ok. He’s out of his cast now, but still off work for 5 more weeks. The company that built the house used untreated ply, which is just daft for a tiny house. It had already been patched with treated ply, but we ripped out everything and replaced it with treated ply. I’ll probably be back there for a few small jobs once the new kitchen is ready.
Thanks. I'll put some links in the description shortly. James will be out for a couple of months at least, and probably not at full strength for a while after that.
It sure is a little beast. It's just not as much of a tank as my bigger saw, but it's still my go to for most work. The latest 18V saws are still pretty good though. 40V is worth the jump though if you want the extra power. There were a couple of things I forgot to mention. Firstly, the Amazon price I included was for the skin only, so you're looking at a few hundred extra for a battery and charger. Secondly, you won't have a warranty from your local Makita, so it's a bit of a risk.
Who else watches Tools and Stuff ? Best channel for Makita power tool reviews.

I didn't even know there was an 18V version! Let me know how it goes.
See Scott Brown loves that saw too, and he absolutely thrashes it. Makita really needs to bring it over and support it
I think the guard isn't compliant, but hopefully, Japan will tweak it to bring it here.

I am in Long beach and just purchased a 5 pack on ebay, they did take awhile to get here though

Well if you want to sell one, let me know ;)

Just bought one from Japan the 005 version .
Easy to use this little saw .
Great choice. I hope you love it as much as I do
@@nakedapprentice I'll let you know🤟🤟.
I use a sp001 for longer cuts and this little one for shorter cuts.
The 005 is really light weight.
Great video bro. Awesome little saw 😉
Sure is. I hardly use my 185 anymore
My 185 is my least used. 165s, 270, 125, 185

Great review bro. Pretty sad to hear James has hurt himself tho Hopefully he's back at work soon
Thanks man.
It was a really bad cut, so he's going to be off for a couple of months at least.
i just got one from japan, and want a rip fence/guide for it. are they "one size fits all" ?
Awesome. My rip guide fit both my makita saws, so I think all the Makita ones are the same. I know the Dewalt ones are different, though.

I am looking for a 125mm circular saw with a cutting track. With the Hikoki CD3605DB there is similar option.
I know there are track adapters for other saws, but I'm not sure about this one.
Hope the bro is ok. What cause the floor to rot out? Seems odd, was it sitting too close to the ground or something?

Oh man that little saw is almost enough to justify the jump to the 40v lol Shame I just bought a new 18v circ saw.

I bought the 18v version, I also have an Hitachi skilsaw 36v for regular framing duties....Ill use this saw for certain things but not everything
Might as well just out yourself as Tools and Stuff already 😅
Nah, I would never dream of competing with those hands 😂
@@nakedapprentice Who is this Tools & Stuff you speak of?
Some other youtuber who has a much bigger channel than me
