i totally get it, its difficult when you see all the sacrifices you made all the memories you could have had all to acheive something that feels good for 15seconds, thats rough but guess what you havent felt yet?? the future , your future that is now so much brighter because of those sacrifices you will feel that 15second feeling time and time again , trust me its worth it

You’re missing the point: The point is WHAT will those sacrifices be? Will they just be as simple as not going out with friends? Will it be not having any friends at all? Or maybe spending less time with family? What if your mother died during the period you were sacrificing time with family for work the same day you achieve what you were working for? Would the sacrifice have been worth it? It’s about what you’re willing to sacrifice and if you understand that’s what you’re sacrificing as compared to just be willing to sacrifice in general.

This is exactly how I felt, after giving my valedictorian speech. I felt so good for about 30 mins, and then I tbjkfunf to myself, “so is this if? , all my hard work for the last four years to give a speech and be done”. I honestly recommend people to enjoy their high school years, study but don’t forget to have fun, because it doesn’t get easier

I'm looking for a guide on how to make a valedictory speech because I was announced to be the valedictorian of our school. This is my first time being a valedictorian, even making a speech. I know to myself that I don't have the confidence to speak in front of many. I don't even know how I got to be the valedictorian. I don't even know if I deserve it. All I do know about myself is that I got high scores in exams or any written outputs, I don't know if that is enough to be a valedictorian. It's literally our graduation in 6 days. I hope I'm worth of this title.

This is precisely what is wrong with society right now. Everything is about the instant gratification or the adrenaline / dopamine fix. No thought about the long term impact of actions.
This young man's adrenaline hit might have only last 15 seconds, but his achievement will open doors that will impact the rest of his life... and for as long as his school exists, he will be on record as valedictorian for his graduating class. #1. Numero uno. Big dog. His legacy.
Kids... when you consider your decisions throughout your life, don't just look at the short term or the quickest way to get your quick fix. Look at the long term impact of the action you are considering taking. Not just the impact on you, but your family, friends and those you care about.

When I graduated high school there was 7 valedictorian kids, 8 or 9 for my brothers class. I was 35th in my year in the rankings and I watched as the top 10 kids stressed and cried for the special spot (which was hilarious to see that there was 7 in the end)
My brother was in the top 10 but did NOTHING special like the others. We actually weren’t accepted into honor role because we refused to go to meetings, buy our membership or pay the fines….we didn’t care.
We had fun, created memories and did whatever WE WANTED. HS was fun and exciting, thankfully our parents didn’t care about rankings.

My grade was VERY competitive. I ranked 30 with a 3.9 GPA. I had personal issues in freshman year that made me have an 87 average, my junior and senior years I averaged a 100 and 104. If we went by senior year, I would have ranked 4th. Looking back, I am sad things happened in freshman year, but it also opened me to recognizing the flawed system of the class rank. I was the fourth smartest kid in my class when I graduated 2 years ago.... yet I ranked 30.

It will help you get accepted into a better school, scholarships, and help you find a good job. However, I get it. I graduated college with my associates degree as a single mom of 4. Yes it felt good to receive my college degree BUT I missed out on a lot. Every single time I was breastfeeding, I had my phone in my hand studying. 3 am up rocking a newborn with my phone in my hand studying. Etc. Now I am in school for my bachelors degree in psychology BUT I know that means I have to make sacrifices. However, I also know it means a better life for my kids. Pick your battles I suppose….
