Ok so I didn't realise that I'd set this video to be published today instead of tomorrow as per my usual upload schedule 😅 Woops! Anyways enjoy the video a day early I guess 😅😂
Not to mention that the engines not only threw an entire Christmas party for her, but that Topham I gifted her tickets to Bournemouth and Topham III invited her for Thomas' return from York
Make Someone Happy, introduced me to lots of things, Season 5, Alec Baldwin, and the peak of the whole show. This is my second favorite episode of the show, just behind Thomas and the Rumors. This episode gets a 10/10.
Definitely an underappreciated one from S5. Even Cranky acts civil in this episode! Also, I think this is the only time in the series where Percy and Oliver interacted, apart from them crashing into each other in Season 18.
Actually, Duck was the one who almost crashed into Oliver in season 18. Nonetheless Percy and Oliver have had hardly any interaction in the TV series at all.
@JintyGreen Oliver really deserved more interactions I would've LOVED to see that deleted scene in Oliver's find with James and Henry yelling at him after the turntable mess especially with the season 5 style roasting.
I certainly love "Make Someone Happy"; it felt so relaxing, James does learn a lesson, and I'm grateful for Thomas to suggest those words to him. Certainly one of top favourites from season 5, and I agree it needs more attention. 🙂👏
Thomas has had many mature moments with James over the years. I think the HIT era had the most fun pairing the both of them by having episodes and TGD about them being competitive jack@$$3$ or them having fun together. James also has moments where he sacrifices his pride to help others like in "Dirty work" when he helps Thomas, Percy and Emily with their jobs despite the trains they were carrying got him and the decorations he was wearing dirty and him trying to collect sheep while getting muddy in "Muddy matters". In "Journey beyond Sodor" just like what Thomas said to James in this episode both he and him learn that nobody has to be the favorite.
I absolutely love this episode! Make someone happy is the definition of not only a slice of life story in a perfect balanced season, but also fun and great character moments, where Thomas is mature and the one that tells off James, James going through a gradual arc, Mrs Kyndley feeling happy and is appreciated on sodor, a fun dynamic of Percy and Oliver just being tank engines collecting stuff for the funfair, Cranky being nice to the other engines, season 5 being visually appealing with some season 4 footage, and of course the music is just breathtaking and whimsical, as I always loved that opening theme of Thomas’ theme mixed with the Skarloey Railway theme! This is definitely one of my favorite underrated gems and an episode I absolutely love more as I got older! Season 5 is truly a work of art!
7:41 "Evil fascist dictator, my ass." That's one of, if not THE, best things one can say in response to the people who have NOT seen this season, ESPECIALLY this episode, and think a certain man is a cactus in disguise. I would say what I'm actually thinking, but there are people who read comments who would give me flak for it just to feel better about their overinflated ego, so I'm not going to give them the satisfaction.
There's was always that hart warming moment when it comes to Mis kindly, do remember that way I felt when she looked destroyed about her sister not been able to come and visit now.
ALSO that dynamic was always a highlight in the TV series. Another season 5 episode it was great in was Trouble with Trees. Not to mention being a fun dynamic during the hit and Brenner era. It's wild too because they BARELY interacted in the railway series
@@LegendaryCaptain the rws did kind of kick it off with thomas and the breakdown train though never really did anything with with it afterward meanwhile the tvs made a whole movie about it.
@karenfan010 same with James and Percy DEADASS besides Percy's book and Old Iron they barely interacted yet it ended up becoming a prominent dynamic in the TV series. The James and Gordon dynamic got really expanded on too. Hit era made a solid James and Duncan episode. I'm starting to notice James REALLY became the third face of the franchise in the TV Series
It is a greatly written episode, I like the shots, angles as well and Thomas was right about James, it is a enjoyable episode to watch it is one of my favourite episodes of Season 5.
This is one of the most nostalgic episodes of season 5 for me as it was on one of my favourite DVDs Truck Loads of Fun. I’ve really grown to appreciate it over the years.
Make Someone Happy is worthy of praise and highly underrated! I often find some ppl say it was a weak episode (as I think this mostly comes down to UnluckyTug's S5 retrospective review) when it's not true. It really showcases James' kinder side which we don't see often. Plus, I love how they kept the friendship between the engines and the Kyndley family, especially since Mrs. Kyndley is now a recurring character in S5 alongside George - as much as I enjoy the all the action in S5, I still enjoy slice-of-life episodes cause that's the nature of Thomas & Friends as a way of escaping to a world of our own. Plus, Alec Baldwin's narration really suits the episode's tone. Plus, I love the message that when you make others happy, it can make you happy too. I'm so glad this episode made it on Engine Friends DVD.
I can understand why someone might overlook this episode, but to say that it's bad or boring is down right sacrilege! As you said, we get to see a side of James that we rarely get to see, not to mention the continuity with Mrs Kindley's bond with her fellow Sudrians.
This video made me see how some of the most underrated episodes should get more attention. Make Someone Happy may not be among my favorites or do I consider it the best but it does do things right by showing us more of the human characters like Mrs. Kindley. She’s one of the most memorable and probably among the important ones we can remember. It’s a shame after Season 5 there wasn’t anything more they could do with her.
This is interesting, I was actually just making a Railway Series story edit of this episode today. Comments aside, I think this is a really great episode. I give it a 10/10.
Very thankful for the mention there, I love this episode so much and the characters really perfectly compliment the state of the franchise and the state of their maturity, I love these kinds of episodes and wish we got more as the series went on, it really showed growth in a way that felt genuine and deserved
I remember this episode being one of my first Season 5 episodes. When I was little, I remember finding it confusing then the more I watched it, the more I understood it. This episode may probably be a “filler” episode, but I honestly think this episode is a great reminder that kindness can be earned when u give that kindness back. James was a great choice as being a character who may be pompous and arrogant at times, can actually have a kind side. I do kind of wish that was shown in throughout the cgi at times. Heck, also the fact they give tribute to Mrs Kyndley as a nice comeback to how she saved Thomas from a landslide and yes I love love Thomas being mature, it helps give him a beautiful arc. Even her name Mrs “Kindly” actually helps bring in a party of her character. She’s kind, she’s sweet and helpful. TFC also being a kind friend as well, definitely brings in more humanity to the Thomas lore :) Make Someone Happy Rating: 9/10. A nice, simple, slice of life, a mature episode
It's definitely an episode that one can grow to understand and appreciate more and more as we get older. It pays homage to the lore whilst also adding to it. Great insight as always, Holly!
I enjoy this episode, it shows not only Thomas being the mature one & showing James it’s nice to make someone happy. Which shows he isn’t a character. Also we get to see some scenes from side characters example Oliver and Percy. At First I thought the fat controller is doing a lot, but not I realize he’s so grateful that she save his engines from a landslide. Great video 👍🏻
Whenever I think of Season 5, this is the first episode that comes to mind. One of the earliest DVD's in my collection as a kid was Make someone happy and other stories. Thomas James and the trouble with tree's is also up there. I wouldn't say they're my favorites of the season, especially with Oliver's Find, Toby and the flood, and Duncan gets spooked up there. But this episode still holds a special place in my heart.
I can't thank you enough for the mention! This is the first time I've ever been mentioned by someone else in a video and it's a real honour. As for the episode itself, it's definitely one of Season 5's underrated gems, and James's arc here is one of the reasons I wish that side of him was shown at least a bit more. Plus I really love the pairing of Oliver and Percy in the side plot as well, that makes me wonder what'd happen if the pair had an actual dynamic with each other. Great video once again! Keep up the good work.
