This kinda answers thr question on weather thr GC vebyer diff is the same as the Durango . I have buddy at work with a rebel that has 3.92 gears my r/t has 3.09 it really sucks compared to his rebel off the line that thing luts a two car gap between my Durango right away then i xant close that gap until he hits his 105 limit . He has. 33 inch tire i have a 31 so i figure 3.70 is about the same as that 3.92 with a 2 inch smaller tire . The ram is factory tuned at a round 395/410 for the 5.7 and they did the Durango dirty at 360/390 factory so I figure most bang for the buck is gears with a tune and basic intake and exhaust. The 3.70 srt ratio seems to be a bit more $ than the 3.45 but still alot cheaper than buying nee gears and paying to have them installed . I just want the better 0-60 the deeper gears give vs the BS touring fuel economy bs ratio .
I was disappointed in my 3.45 differential swap on my awd r/t. May be because my r/t was just stock with a tune so I’m starting to mod it out now to see if it will benefit fully modded
Maybe, the 3:45 is not the right gear for the 5.7 due to it’s higher torque to hp ratio and a different power curve. A lower gear seems to work better with the 392. Just a thought.
Tony, great work, excellent video, and sweet ride. A 2017 DD Citadel 5.7L (Not RT) 4X2 (RWD) with built ZF 8HP70 is now pushing 700+WHP with a 6.4L engine swap and using a stock 3.09 ratio 230mm (9.055 = 9.06") ring gear conventional (open) diff PN: 68251551AA. The 3.09 open diff new OEM replacement part number is 68378938AB. This replaces 68149920AC, 68251551AA, 68378938AA. The 3.45 diff swap you did appears to be a drop-in replacement (has correct spline count and shafts), and is a limited slip (LSD) version (can spin both tires and transfers more power to the traction wheel). Do you have a part number I can reference? Also, the 3.09 may be a better option for my setup power. Is there a drop-in 3.09 LSD version available?
Hey Tony your work is fantastic . I’m trying to do the same as you and I would like to ask you a couple questions if you don’t mind? 1st question I have a 2011 Dodge Durango crew 5.7L and I’m swapping it out with a 6.4L HEMI. I ran across a few problems like my drive shaft won’t hook up to my differential and it’s stock. I have a 3.45 would u recommend me upgrading it or do u think it would handle the motor? 2nd my exhaust won’t fit and the ones I been looking at cost a pretty penny do u have any recommendations? 3rd did u upgrade your U connect system so that you would have all the options to set your hp and everything else from your radio? If so could u please give me some info on how to do some of things and where I can find some parts that’s not so pricey. Thanks again Tony Love your work!!
Not sure why the drive shaft doesn’t fit. If it was the same transmission as the 5.7, it should fit. As you saw in my video, I swap to a 3:45. So why would you think it wouldn’t handle it? If you want to run the stock exhaust, you will need to buy new exhaust manifold flanges, have a shop cut off the old ones and weld on the new ones. No, I did nothing to the Uconnect. Watch my video where I recap the installation and show the exhaust parts I used. Thanks for watching.
For some reason my 5.7 came with a 6 speed transmission and not a 8 speed. But I have a the 6.4L transmission and my driveshaft hooks up to the differential just not to the transmission. Any suggestions?
@@torrencewalls1314 The 3.09 and 3.45 230mm ring gear variants that are usually mated with the 5.7L use the 8-speed but there are older vehicles including Jeeps with less gears and smaller engines. What year is your Durango? The 3.45 230mm ring gear differential (CRR-Carrier Assembly) in this video came from a RWD (4x2) Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 with a 5-speed automatic. A RWD 4x2 Durango (no transfer case) with the 8 speed (ZF 8HP70/75) is used with the 5.7L engine. This comes with the long 2-piece driveshaft. An engine swap from 5.7L to 6.4L will not change how the drive shaft connects to the differential and it will fit. The SRT Durango variant with the 6.4L engine with the 8HP70/75 was not available until 2018. It is exclusively an AWD vehicle with transfer case. The SRT Durango 6.2L supercharged engine also is exclusively AWD with a transfer case.
No. On modern cars the speedometer picks up it’s reading from the wheel speed sensors located in the hubs. The ABS uses these as well. Therefore, the only thing that would change the speedo , is a different tire diameter than stock. Thanks for watching.
I like it much better. It has increased the low end power and mpg’s are staying the same around town. I haven’t been on a long trip yet to see if that changes.
@@tonyharmsen5081 I got my rear with 33k miles and the rear with 55k miles on it. My 16 Durango has 110K miles on it. Im having them installed next Thursday so I'll be making a video of the before and after 0-60 and 1/4 mile times
@@MikeyTucker17 I just swapped the engine. So no extra features were added. I’m pretty sure that there’s no way to add that to the 2014 model. It may be possible to do it on a 2018 or newer though.
Love the Durango's. Can't wait until summer to change over my R/T engine to the 426 shaker.
That will be awesome. How much did that motor set you back?

No. It’s the same as the stock gear.

Hey I have a 2013 R/T is any of this possibly on this year?
Yes, it should be the same.
Just subscribed, any numbers before and after on 0-60 or 1/4 mile?
I’ll get back to you on that
Would I be able to swap a 16 Scat pack engine into a 15 5.7 Durango like yours?
It should work. There may be some difference like the oil dipstick location and exhaust manifolds, but I think that’s all.
can you swap a 2014 jeep Cherokee v6 engine out with a 392 ?
Yes, but it would require the 8hp70 transmission a wiring harness and possibly the ecm for a V8.
How's does the 3.45 perform for you?
I like it much better. It has increased the low end power and mpg’s are staying the same around town. I haven’t been on a long trip yet to see if that changes.
If it is an awd DD r/t will it require any other swap other than the engine still?
I don’t think so. If it is from a Grand Cherokee or Durango, it should be fine.
Did you replace seals or anything on the differential?
No, I checked the seals and they still looked good, so I went with it. This carrier had only about 1/3 of the miles that my original has on it.

So do the track and sport option work just like it would in the original 392?
I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
Okay so like you know how originally the srt has the sport/track and I believe launch control. Does that function the same on yours?

Is your durango AWD ? If so do you have to do anything to the front gearing
No, it’s RWD. You would need matching diffs for AWD.

Hows the the rpm's on the hwy
Around 2300-2400 at 80.
What rear diff is this to be exact ?
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3:45 ratio.
Is ur Durango awd
