It's possible msg is actually a healthier alternative to salt because it's ability to improve umami is greater than that of salt and so you end up eating less sodium overall.

This is one of my all time favorite dishes as well! I made it myself a few times but never thought about MSG, I'll be trying this recipe ASAP 🥰
As someone who lost the top portion of his ring finger thanks to a mandolin slicer, YES.
Those mf'ers are out to get you. Be SUPER careful when using them because you have the possibility to cut something off and never get it back.
Rip man. Really sorry
I've got a slice missing from the side of my thumb. Terrible experience!
i literally made this before even seeing the end lol that's how much trust I have in this man
I will tell you. The MSG disclaimer at the beginning was a cool but excessive ad for the brand - since it sponsors you, I think - but the MSG tone you sing in the videos is SWEET AND HILARIOUS. Liked this recipe very much! I learned to fry the katsu two times for extra crispiness (without burning it! Watch out!).
After years of watching youtube, bruh….this is my first comment. This was the best curry I’ve ever made! Thank you so much for sharing! My kids don’t like curry and dang… they ate it all up!!! I’m a believer my guy! MSG! MSG!😆
This brings back major childhood memories. I would often go with my parents to a sushi restaurant where all the dishes were on a conveyor belt and one of my favorite dishes was the chicken katsu. Can't wait to recreate this recipe :)
It’s a good day when Joshua Post some amazing food and good vibe content.😂😂
Use a cut-resistant glove when operating a mandolin, please! Don't want anything bad happening to papa's hands.
ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ
Cut resistant gloves are for pansies. We learn to operate such artillery the hard way, like real dumbasses(such as myself, as I have NUMEROUS scars on my knuckles and fingers proving my veteran status with a mandolin lmao)
My husband and I made this last night. It was absolutely brilliant. Thank you for the lesson.
Dude. Straight up. One, if not THE BEST AND MOST ENTERTAINING cooking video I've watched. You're incredibly talented & witty. Thanks for sharing you, with us ❤ "where the hell do you think you are?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just received my copy of your spiral bound cookbook in the mail today. Everything looks awesome and I can't wait to try some of the recipes. The smashburger looks "to die for"!
Amen!
just throwing it out there, there's a fusion cuisine "Indo Chinese", originates from Kolkata area of india, main dishes are 3 types Chicken / Paneer (indian cottage Cheese) / veg (mixture of veggies : carrots and cabbage being the main ones), the dishes : Chowmein, fried rice, Manchurian (dry or gravy), chilli (dry or gravy). I would love to see your take on those josh
Omg, this recipe is the bomb!! I just made this for my family and they are obsessed, thanks a lot Papa!! ☺☺
You’ve answered my prayers. I’ve been dying for a legit from scratch j-curry recipe for years now
Makes you eat more than you would without it. Not always a good thing, but does make food taste more elevated.
It's possible msg is actually a healthier alternative to salt because it's ability to improve umami is greater than that of salt and so you end up eating less sodium overall.
I made this one again and holy shitttt banging yet again. Still Josh’s best recipe imo
since you already made katsu curry, how about give katsudon a shot? One of the best rice dish ever!
I've made this recipe twice now and I LOVE IT SO MUCH OMG
Seriously that sandwich bag Trick.... Pretty genius! Josh for President!!
In Japan, curry with apple and honey in it is known as "Vermont curry" (the roux is made by House Foods).
It's likely the case that many people in Japan have heard of "Vermont curry" but not the state of Vermont.
As someone who lives in Vermont when I saw Vermont curry in an anime I was like "OMG".
As South East Asian i can promise you that the amount of MSG that's added in this meal is not even that much, compare to the insanity alot of us ate every day.
As someone who used to live in Worcester, y'all driving me nut with this. It's pronounced Wuss-Stir. One is what you do to your coffee, the other is what kids called you in grade school. 😅
Hi! Im from Holland and all my mother teached me is how to cook potatoes and some meat. When I moved out I turned to Asian cooking and ur videos reallly helped me out. Thank you , for the videos and your lovely book! Keep it up!
Great video and recipe, I cooked the curry today (with cauliflower katsu) and my guests absolutely loved the sauce! Thank you! 🙏
8:18 that face sent me 💀
In Japan, you dont eat Katsu Curry with chopsticks, any rice with “sauce” or curry you normally just eat with traditional utensils so fork and you good, otherwise its near impossible to grab the rice and the curry at the same time.
Spoon dude you eat rice with a spoon not fork.
th-cam.com/video/_cSE6ylyvwA/w-d-xo.html 👌🏻
As a clinical dietitian, THANK YOU for talking about the whole MSG myth thing. Irks me to no end that people have been so utterly misinformed. yayayay, you're the best papa!
I appreciate you posting this!!! Seriously it is really hard to find a good Japanese curry recipe on TH-cam that doesn't use pre made curry mix.
you do the cooking stuff better than the originals every time
Joshua: spends hundreds of dollars on stand mixers and blowtorches
Also Joshua: beats his meat with pan
Joshua: uses MSG
Uncle Roger: YES!
*JOSH STARTS SINGING "MsG"
The wife in the other room " what's happening?"
Morpheus: " he's starting to beleive"
BRO I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS!!!!! You’re a god
The part that was glorious was the live crunch reaction approval.
That’s better than grandmas cooking and she would agree
7:09
"then fry for 46 minutes"
yes chef.
Funny enough I just bought some MSG by that brand for the first time 2 days ago, and made some yummy chicken stew (it was yummy without it tbh but it definitely added something)
Oh yes! MSG❤❤❤. My grandma couldnt cook without msg since young age and she lives till 115 years old.
This has to be one of the funniest videos you've done i was cracking up
6:09 boys after nnn who can relate?
Tried the recipe turned out great but I used chicken instead of pork because my family dosen't like pork much but it all turned out great took me a little longer to caramelize the onions
Wait fry for 46 minutes??? 7:10
I think he means 4-6 minutes
The sound of that katsu as he was slicing it physically made me put my hands together and say a prayer
This is my first time watching your channel. I love your sense of humor! And this recipe is FIRE! I can't wait to follow it. Thank you!
ETA: Made your recipe for dinner. It was phenomenal!
