Being on hold literally makes me so anxious. Like you never know what they can actually hear from your end or when they’ll pick up and then they finally pick up after 30 minutes and you’re like put on the spot and forget everything you have to say. Is that just me? Lol
Abbey Kat that’s why I mute. Just in case they come back but then I have anxiety about my phone screen going to sleep and having to unlock it to unmute before they hang up. It’s a cycle.

Brionna Joose Thank you for pointing this out. Absolutelyyy correct. I’ve worked in customer service, over the phone, for years. It is always being recorded by the company usually, especially if any type of card numbers are being given, but the employee can never hear you when music is playing. When that shit is dead silent though, they absolutely have just muted themselves and have walked away from the phone or are sitting there trying to figure some shit out, lol.

Wow that looked incredibly easy 😂 my 1 year old pitbull mix REFUSES to have his nails clipped.
We tried treats, we tried getting him tired at the dog park, cutting one nail at a time in his sleep, we tried touching his paw with a soft toothbrush to get him use to the idea of something touching his feet, we tried taking him to a professional and then our last resort was to hold him down with three people and that didn’t work. The ONLY thing that I have gotten to work at all is cutting them after a bath while he is still in the bathtub, he doesn’t struggle around because he is too scared to fall so he doesn’t move a whole lot.
I honestly do the same thing with both of my tiny pups. They only weigh 8 lbs and if I didn't clip theirs in the bath, it still takes 3 grown people to handle them. The thing is, they don't try to bite us, just the clippers. XD

My dog would never bite us but he growls and yelps cause he’s scared and I don’t want hurt him or have to hold him down and make the situation worse for him and I’ve noticed when he’s in the bathtub he’s to scared to jump out or move, he just gives up and stands there until it’s over 😂
I’m going to try this!! My corgi puppy HATES getting his nails trimmed. He howls like I’m cutting off his foot and squirms and grunts to get out of my arms like his life depends on it.
It’s so dramatic! I know it doesn’t hurt bc one time he was distracted by the cat for a split second and I cut one. He didn’t even notice.
But he also hates baths and tries to jump out constantly, so it might not go so well..
My husky doesn't bite but will put your hand or arm in his mouth. Like hes trying to threaten you. Its comical. And while your hand or arm is in his mouth he will start howling. Ah, dogs are so great😂
Try giving him Benadryl! It worked with my dog after trying everything. I gave him the Benadryl and 30 mins later wrap him up in a blanket like a burrito with a little slit for one paw to come out. The first few times he still tried to fight it but he was very sleepy so he couldnt squirm away anymore. It doesnt knock them out, just relaxes them. Which is good cause after doing it like that several times, he learned that it's really not that bad. Now I dont have to give him the pill, just wrap him up and make him cozy!

My dog has just resigned when it comes to me handling his physical wellbeing. He's too old to care anymore. When he understands it's time for a nailtrim, dental clean and ear cleaning, he's like "this again. This is BS but whatever" and then he lays down, closes his eyes and makes high pitch noises until we're done.

I use a Dremel tool with the sand paper attachment to grind the nails of my Beagle and Lab, Works great because I never get their quick, I get closer than what I would with the clippers, and it leaves a smooth edge. You should try it out some time Julien!
KERMIT IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL I love the dremel. It takes a little while for doggers to get used to the noise, but after that it’s great! If you happen to get a little too close to the quick the friction solders it closed. I’ll never cut dog nails with clippers again.

Y'all so nice to your dogs lol. My dogs are little demons when you do their nails. I bring out the dremel (to grind their nails after the clip) and the run from me. They gotta get held down most of the time lol.
Side note don't use those kind of clippers because it actually more like squashes the nail. Verses the other kind that slice like butter. That's probably why Cermet doesn't like it because it makes a weird pressure.
GhoulishGal My Shadow gets the dremel instead of clipping. It’s just nicer...according to the groomer. I did my German shedder, but poodle grooming is not in my abilities. She’s an oddity, a tiny dog that is not yappy and reasonably behaved. (Ok, so she’s kinda scared of people and only wants to be around me. But that’s ok.)
Something super useful I learned after working in a grooming salon for a long time is, look at the actual nail where you’re cutting. Go slow when cutting the nail, and when you need to stop you’ll see a black dot right in the center of the nail, that is the quick. Once you see that dot, don’t take the nail any further. Also have QuikStop on hand, it’ll be a life saver because accidents happen

Watching these two take such good care of their dogs just makes me realize how many people I know do NONE of this with their pets. They don’t cut their nails, brush their teeth, nothing. They literally just feed them, buy them toys occasionally, and let them outside to go to the bathroom. Thank you for being a shining example of what it means to own dogs for people who may be unaware of the work that comes with it!

Hey Julien, part of my job is trimming dog nails, and theirs are a bit long! My advice is to use a dremmel instead of clippers, something I never knew existed until I started working with dogs. It's a lot easier and safer. I can't really tell in the video but if their quicks are long trimming the nail down often will make the quick start going back. When you clip/dremmel the nail you want to get as close to the quick as you can without touching it :) If you're worried about hitting the quick you can buy powder that stops the bleeding in case of emergency or you can also use corn starch.
Awww, Jenna, I relate to the crying so much! I got my cat only a couple months before COVID hit and I lost my job. I had to trim her nails, and she didn't trust me yet, and I'd moved us in with my sister, which she didn't appreciate either. I hadn't even squeezed the clippers once yet, there's no way I hurt her, but she made a noise like she was dying, and I was so on edge, I let her go and burst into tears. Then my furry monster turned around and bit me! Like "I told you, no!" 😂 (She didn't bite hard enough to draw blood - she just wanted it clear that was Not Okay.)
I don't have a Julien, so I kept practicing after we both calmed down. I particularly like the TH-cam vid by Vancouver Vet on nail trimming cats, it is helpful and soothing. Using nail clippers meant for humans, and starting the trim when she was sleeping helped a lot too. Now, she has literally purred through a whole nail trim. 🥰

peach reminds me of my fav horse ollie. hes the youngest of our horses and we've had him since he was a baby so he's really more like our dog. when we have to worm them, we buy like big syringes full of the stuff and have to shov it way in their mouths bc their heads are so long. both the mares hate it, we couldnt even worm Rhanni for years because we just werent strong enough (like marble kind of). we would wrestle with hour for hours to try and do it, and it didnt matter how tired she was. she'd literally lift us up with her neck and head. but my baby Ollie would eat it like it was a treat

Julien makes the best vlogs. I love the music and stitched together clips, it makes me feel like snuggling into a blanket on the couch and just sitting there being happy. And the vlogs themselves are just so relaxed and it's like he's just talking to me about his day.
Personal recommendation for the doggy pedicures, as someone who used to groom dogs for a living: get the nail clippers that are visually built like scissors. They're easier to control, and I find that I am/was less likely to cause bleeding with them. Or get a dremel and grind their nails, if you can get the dogs to chill, which I know can be hard.

Go to walmart and buy a dremel. It's so much easier to get a good length with that tool. It's a rotating sandpaper thing, so it files and smooths the nail. I love it, im a dog bather. If you continue to use the clippers you CANNOT stop when they get upset. It tells them that that is perfectly acceptable and that they tell YOU when to stop. If you must, invest in a velcro muzzle. I find that it comforts some dogs and also will protect you, as his mouth is very close to your face. Ear wipes too. So important! Love you guys! Wish you luck next time!

I sneak up on my cats while they are asleep ("calm environment.") to clip their nails. I also usually have to make several gos at it to get them all clipped. And yes you have to be totally relaxed and cool if you don't finish, otherwise the animal can't relax. I would probably do ears and teeth at another time too, otherwise it's just too much at once
Julien I just want to say you are my favourite volgger. Because your vlogs are so well edited and they just flow so nicely and we can tell you put so much effort into them that I feel like it changes the whole idea and presentation of "a vlog". It's not lazily edited. It's not sloppy. It's cinematic and professionally handled in its own right.
