A little tip to help with a vintage wood look and feel. Get a wire brush wheel for a drill and use it on the surfaces around the writing. It scrapes away the softer part of the wood and leaves the harder parts. Gives the look and feel of reclaimed barn wood.

The ones that I have made here are for decor only if you’re making cutting boards to use you have to make sure you get the right type of wood and a food grade oil to seal them with. Thanks for watching.
Hi Deidre, did you make any film about tools that are necessary for working with wood? If so, could you please give me a link? Which tools do you use working?
1) Balls, Canada is expensive! 😱(Though you do have a higher GNP per capita, so a higher average standard of living than the States, so you've got that going for you! lol) 2) I love these ideas! Gosh, the shutter slat idea?! Shut.up. I just saw some free shutters on fb or craigslist & couldn't think of a quick turnaround idea for them & didn't want tons of stuff taking up space in the garage. This is more work than just painting or decorating a shutter for a wall decor, but also loads more income potential. Thanks for that! And the "shelf sitters?" Well, I've definitely got some pieces in my scrap bin in the garage that would work for those. Awesome ideas & tips! Thank you!!! 😍🥰🙏 Excuse me while I go see if those shutters are still available! 😉 (Also, I'll have to check again if Home Depot or other local hardware/home improvement stores have the free scrap cuts bin. Haven't found them before, & even the "oops" or deformed wood is selling at a higher price than standard lumber was 2 yrs ago!!!)
Deidre, do you have a video link on how you made the tags on the coasters? I may have overlooked it when I searched through your videos. Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge!!

Hi there yes for sure you can use scrapbooking paper you can decoupage it on and then put your three coats of engine enamel sealer on top of it but I do find scrapbooking paper is quite sick to work with and doesn’t lay flat and nice so I do have a video on how to make thick paper easier to decoupage with you can look that up on my channel and that might work out better when you’re trying to put scrapbooking paper on top of coasters hope that helps
It’s very hard to say what somebody should charge for the DIY’s because every area is different. What I usually do is go to Etsy find a comparable product and then price from there
Do you have any ideas for some 2x2 scraps? We have some leftover pieces from our deck railing. For the life of me, I can't think of anything. They are so small, I just have no imagination! Thanks :)
Great projects! I made numerous rustic coasters but they don't sell. $10 for the set of 4. I'm not sure why. I'm in Ontario in a small town of Ilderton, people are not supportive here. I have a show coming up in Thorndale, hopefully it will be better.
Yes some areas can be very difficult and I find you have to have a product that is not easily re-created because people will think that they can just make it themselves that’s why on a lot of my DIY projects that sell really well are use my graphics on them and people are not sure how to re-create that so they are more likely to buy
Hi again Diedra!! I have been preparing for my 1st Craft Show in October... I have a couple of questions... I've been picking up EVERY piece of wood I see for free or next to nothing... I recently found a television armoire that had fallen out of a pickup truck ( I guess...) But it HUGE and only has a couple of pieces busted off it.. but the whole sides ( 3 ft wide 6ft tall) are in perfect shape! The shelves inside it are the same way... I know I can make signs with it. But my question is... Can you use pressed wood to make bread boards?
@Susan McBride. Yes, as Rays' Blue Basement Workshop says auto parts stores and amazon has it. Walmart also carries it at a cheaper price but does tend to be quite thin. F.Y.I. all engine enamel is, is a high heat enamel that resist peeling/melting a temps usually below temp rating on label which can be anywhere between 350F to 1100F depending on the type. If you can't find engine enamel I suppose you can use standard enamel from say your local hardware store or home improvement store (home depot, Lowes, etc.). However, engine enamel is designed to be more tolerant when it comes to adhering to surfaces that are not perfectly clean and usually you will use less of it than standard enamel which may separate especially on surfaces that may have an oily residue.

F.Y.I. all engine enamel is, is a high heat enamel that resist peeling/melting a temps usually below temp rating on label which can be anywhere between 350F to 1100F depending on the type.
