    A little tip to help with a vintage wood look and feel. Get a wire brush wheel for a drill and use it on the surfaces around the writing. It scrapes away the softer part of the wood and leaves the harder parts. Gives the look and feel of reclaimed barn wood.

    Another great video! I'm like you, I don't throw any wood away. I have to threaten my husband sometimes. I love these signs & the cutting board. Now I wish I had a laser printer! I made your air dry clay this morning. Turned out fantastic. I had tried another one before & it turned out to be a greasy mess! I'm sticking with yours! Yes your editing has gotten better. I don't think you can improve it anymore! You've got this! Love love love watching your videos. See you next time. God bless you. 🥰

    I love all of your videos. I was cleaning the garage today & found a stash of scrap wood that I forgot I had. Yay!! I keep the garage decided by a curtain for garage sales. I had some health issues last summer, so I didn't have any sales. I got a very small booth last March, so I'm excited to have wood to make signs & decor. Now I need a printer

    THANKS for the reminder to do up some scrap wood projects! Just grabbed some of your graphics on Etsy....I was wondering how to spend that last few $$ of my gift card! I have used the method you use to transfer designs before with varied success. I did it with floral prints and copied them at a local fedex with colored laser ink. Some of the color rubbed off too but it worked to make it more vintage. Out to the garage tomorrow. I just happened across your channel recently and really enjoy it. I love to up-cycle and flip furniture and anything I can find. It drives my husband crazy. I have about 100 little OUI yogurt jars. Trying different things with them, great vanity jars for cotton swabs/balls. Would like to see your ideas for them.

    1) Balls, Canada is expensive! 😱(Though you do have a higher GNP per capita, so a higher average standard of living than the States, so you've got that going for you! lol)
    2) I love these ideas! Gosh, the shutter slat idea?! Shut.up. I just saw some free shutters on fb or craigslist & couldn't think of a quick turnaround idea for them & didn't want tons of stuff taking up space in the garage. This is more work than just painting or decorating a shutter for a wall decor, but also loads more income potential. Thanks for that! And the "shelf sitters?" Well, I've definitely got some pieces in my scrap bin in the garage that would work for those. Awesome ideas & tips! Thank you!!! 😍🥰🙏
    Excuse me while I go see if those shutters are still available! 😉 (Also, I'll have to check again if Home Depot or other local hardware/home improvement stores have the free scrap cuts bin. Haven't found them before, & even the "oops" or deformed wood is selling at a higher price than standard lumber was 2 yrs ago!!!)

    Cute ideas.
    Speaking of crafts fairs...i have a poblem with customers and other vendors asking, what did you use to make this, what stitch is this , among others. And most of the time i see them at the next craft fair in that location and priced lower than mine. Question is, how do i get around not telling them my directions? Or should i make a "polite" sign on my table? I dont mind telling them, if, they are from out of town and wont be competition. Tia

    Great job. Wondering how you decided the overall size of the piece. I have a small cross to use as a template but I didn't want it too big/small for the overall size. I'll be adding a Bible verse as well. Thanks

      It can be really tricky trying to do this technique on rough boards because he would have to get all the paper off in the little grooves I’ve done it and it was not a fun job

    I would love to know where you are selling your items. My husband has made several coat hanger boards in cherry and walnut that are stunning and not one nibble online. He makes ladders out of branches and gorgeous farmhouse benches with walnut and red oak. Nothing. It's very discouraging.

    What is a chalk paint brush you can wash and keep reusing
    I’m finding if I keep buying cheap brushes and washing them the bristles just start falling out. It is not sustainable. So maybe I should invest in more expensive chalk paint brushes so after washing them they don’t fall apart
    Is there a brand you recommend?

      Hi there yes for sure you can use scrapbooking paper you can decoupage it on and then put your three coats of engine enamel sealer on top of it but I do find scrapbooking paper is quite sick to work with and doesn’t lay flat and nice so I do have a video on how to make thick paper easier to decoupage with you can look that up on my channel and that might work out better when you’re trying to put scrapbooking paper on top of coasters hope that helps

      It’s very hard to say what somebody should charge for the DIY’s because every area is different. What I usually do is go to Etsy find a comparable product and then price from there

    Great projects! I made numerous rustic coasters but they don't sell. $10 for the set of 4. I'm not sure why. I'm in Ontario in a small town of Ilderton, people are not supportive here. I have a show coming up in Thorndale, hopefully it will be better.

      Yes some areas can be very difficult and I find you have to have a product that is not easily re-created because people will think that they can just make it themselves that’s why on a lot of my DIY projects that sell really well are use my graphics on them and people are not sure how to re-create that so they are more likely to buy

    Hi again Diedra!! I have been preparing for my 1st Craft Show in October... I have a couple of questions... I've been picking up EVERY piece of wood I see for free or next to nothing... I recently found a television armoire that had fallen out of a pickup truck ( I guess...) But it HUGE and only has a couple of pieces busted off it.. but the whole sides ( 3 ft wide 6ft tall) are in perfect shape! The shelves inside it are the same way... I know I can make signs with it. But my question is... Can you use pressed wood to make bread boards?

    • @OurUpcycledLife
      @OurUpcycledLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that the pressboard is probably not the best wood to make into breadboards but they definitely turn into fantastic signs

      Auto parts stores have it . Amazon also has it.

    • @johnrobinson518
      @johnrobinson518 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Susan McBride. Yes, as Rays' Blue Basement Workshop says auto parts stores and amazon has it. Walmart also carries it at a cheaper price but does tend to be quite thin. F.Y.I. all engine enamel is, is a high heat enamel that resist peeling/melting a temps usually below temp rating on label which can be anywhere between 350F to 1100F depending on the type. If you can't find engine enamel I suppose you can use standard enamel from say your local hardware store or home improvement store (home depot, Lowes, etc.). However, engine enamel is designed to be more tolerant when it comes to adhering to surfaces that are not perfectly clean and usually you will use less of it than standard enamel which may separate especially on surfaces that may have an oily residue.
