- Tommy Emmanuel and Amanda Shires perform the Madonna song "Borderline”. It's from Tommy Emmanuel’s duet album 'Accomplice One'. The video was directed and edited by Joshua Britt & Neilson Hubbard for Neighborhoods Apart, and it was recorded at the Franklin Theatre in Franklin, TN.

I love these collaborations that Tommy Emmanuel puts together. Amanda Shires is a great choice.
I asked Tommy on facebook whether digital enhancement was used or not here is what he said: " Hello.... there is NO vocal enhancement on Amanda Shires and my singing on the Borderline Track... it's simply singing into a microphone. She played the fiddle parts separately, for sound purposes only.. live she does both together! There is no autotuneing... just real people really singing.. TE"
this is how real musicians and artist have always done it! until the ADAT and whatever that Tascam digital thing was (DA88? Something like that) came out everybody recorded to 2-inch tape...Overdubbing? sure. Edits? Very rare, not near to the extent they do now...taking a razor blade to a 2-inch master was done very sparingly and carefully. Engineers had to have nerves of steel back in those days., Tuning vocals? never heard of it until maybe the early '90s? ran into an engineer friend downtown during lunch and asked him what he was working on...he said they just got in a Meladyne, an electronic pitch corrector. One of the labels had a new guy they were going to go big with, but he had trouble singing in tune. Blew my mind to think a label was going big with someone who couldn't sing in tune...(So happened I knew of the guy from the Carolinas - his brother was a great singer, but not very marketable appearance-wise I guess)...this fellow did indeed go on to have a tremendous career, and took lessons while he was at it and did become a bona-fide good singer...the advent of digital and ProtTools has been great in some ways, I guess - but I like the old fashioned way of doing it - like this.

What a brilliant reimagining of the Material Girl's hit! Gives it a whole new life. I am amazed that as much music as I've listened to over the years, I only "discovered" Tommy Emmanuael in the last month. I'm hooked already. Amanda Shire is lovely and does a great job of animating this song.

There are some ridiculous comments here and people are always annoying aren't they !. Yes, the make-up stuff doesn't seem such a great idea but Borderline is a great song and Amanda is such a great singer/ fiddle player. I just love her voice and Tommy of course is one of the greatest acoustic guitarists I have ever had the privilege to hear. A+T = sheer magic.

For all the critics saying this vocal has autotune on it... I opened for Amanda a few years ago at an intimate unplugged venue where she sang a bunch of songs without a mic and that’s just her Texas drawl coming through more than anything else. She really sings like that, I can only guess that her usually tunes half a step low Uke playing might not have worked with Tommy and his tastes for key choice...
I'll back that up. Audio Engineer for 15 years...no autotune; probably a little compressor and them echo...but's that's standard.

it looks like Tommy didn't want to steal the show on this one, he heard Amanda putting the show on her own and got completely out of the way. that's incredible because it's his album, full of guitar artistry and magic, but obviously Tommy's ego is small enough so he easily completely disappears when there's a reason, even if it results in a song which is basically different to the rest of this wonderful album. and probably no one will object on this beautiful intermezzo
