Lodi skydiving instructor indicted for crimes at parachute center, owner challenges allegations

A former skydiving instructor at an Acampo skydiving facility was indicted on June 10 for fraud and identity theft while running unauthorized certification courses in 2016. According to unsealed court documents, 46-year-old Robert Allen Pooley was not allowed to teach tandem instructor courses on his own after his tandem examiner ratings from the U.S. Parachute Association (USPA) and the Uninsured United Parachute Technologies LLC (UPT) were suspended in 2015.
Mike Duffy spoke with the owner of Skydive Lodi Parachute Center, Bill Dause, about why he still allowed Pooley to use the Parachute Center.

How this place is still open amazes me.
I'll never forget years ago when I was a kid and one of the jumpers ended up landing on the freeway and almost caused my mom to crash, I've heard horror stories about this place, the FFA has fined them so many times for having outdated/malfunctioning equipment. The death rates are normal, but still.. Even if it is an extreme sport, put money back into to your business don't cut corners.
The death rates at Lodi are NOT normal. A decent portion of annual deaths come this drop zone.

For a high risk sport it's like 1 death every 2 years. I am well aware of this jump sight. Very close and they do a lot of jumps per week. Well they use to. They have had some strange goings on over the years.

StY away from this man and anyone associated with his business or eithin srms reach. He only values money. If people go there and don't do research.... well.... this poor kid died at his business ='d another 40 million lawsuit against him/ his businesd.
If the federal thinks one of the personel was unothorised then he is considered as unqualified, it doesn't mean that's what the federal thinks, what the federal thinks is passed as a statement of truth. Ofcourse no two accidents are alike it is irrelevant of how what is important is at lodi skydiving the death rate is occurring at an alarming pace.
They should of asked how many jumps a year they do.
He wouldn't have has that number, cause he doesn't keep records of anything.
There are over 3,000 death every year on California highways. Using the argument against skydiving, the courts should stop all travel by automobile until it is 100 percent safe. Or, award each victim $40,000,000 from Caltrans budget. If a person signs a Release of Liability that describes the risks, it should be a legal contract protected by our justice system.
Not when you have unqualified people working there which was a result of a recent finding. This activity needs to be stopped forever and considered as extremely high risk of death.
I believe this should be handled & looked upon as w any high risk sport....injury & high risk waivers are signed to release from liability...

Back in 2009 or 10. The owner of this place Bill literally ripped me off for $250. He told me my card didn't go through I need to run it again .Looked me right in the eye and said he would never charge me twice for One tandem jump. . Well he did. LOL. Claimed later. The reason he ran it twice is I decided to pay for another person. No big deal. I just never forgot it. I guess every person has a price to be a b**** his was $250. Very sad.
Your first problem was deciding to do a tandem in the first place. You were literally tied to another person like an adult baby. I have over 1000 jumps and never once did it even occur to me to do a tandem. Yes, Lodi Parachute Center has had deaths but so does other drop zones. This one in particular was the fault of the owner and the "tandem examiner," jointly. I have hundreds of jumps at Lodi, and know Bill personally. His negligence cost him his business and reputation. We all make our own choices in life and reap the rewards or suffer the consequences. For example, you decided to be strapped to another man and complain about $250 (bear in mind, you did nothing and the entire burden was on the pilot) while skydivers all around the World have the choice where to jump.

He sounds reasonable…..I would only consider hearing opinions from ACTUAL skydivers on such business practices and comparisons. (Non-skydiver myself) If u pay someone to jump out of a plane ✈️ of course death is 1 of 2 outcomes.
