    This was from 1985, this is also a super rare and a super nice game show!

    Sigh. I miss the 80's and early 90's. I like this game show. Its fun, interesting, and really awesome and a great & hilarious host! This should have been picked up!

    The theme song sounds like a re-mix of the 1980's Treasure Hunt.

    Tom Dreesen, major Cubs fan, as a game show host? Never knew that!

    Interesting show, interesting concept.... Love the audience participation aspect too. I don't think that this show would have had a successful run back in the 80's though... I can see why it wasn't ever sold. I'll give this a solid C+.

    Based on some Newspapers clippings, this pilot was taped in February 1983.

    This is a February 1983 pilot episode from the American unsold game show "TV's The Game", hosted by Tom Dreeson. The three players competing on this only pilot episode are Bonnie, Sal & Judith. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

    Barney Miller wasn't cancelled. They chose to end their run at the time because they felt they were running out of topics and wanted to go out with dignity.

    Tom Dreesen hosting? Would've been even better if Tim Reid was his co-host...

    Shocked to see Fred Silverman's name was attached to this, considering how he felt about game shows. Of course, everyone is aware of the irony of him doing that Twenty-One reboot. Anyway, I like the concept, but the execution seemed go weak after a strong start. That bonus question in the second round wasn't needed since it was knowledge-based, and, like someone else said, the bonus game was too easy. Tom Dreesen wasn't too bad as host, but I feel like he was a little ill-at-ease and came across as a bit slick. Overall, not bad but could've been better. Would've been nice to see MGM try to score another game show had this made it. Oh, well.

    Not a fan of the "audience points" system for this reason: since the answers arent being kept anonymous, it can potentially become a popularity contest: ie. The audience could vote for a terrible answer just because they like one contestant more than the other.

  • @paddydoublems
    @paddydoublems ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Interesting premise of TV fans playing fantasy program director. However, the second round kind of lacks something and is uneven. The comedians were not really that funny and I think Tom was laughing for the sake of laughing.

  • @MatthewJicha

    Bonus game was way too easy.
    The buzz in sound is same from the Cullen version of Blockbusters when the solo player buzzes in to answer the question.

    I'm just curious to ask this. Since MGM made TV's The Game pilot back in the early 1980's, does Warner Bros. Discovery now own the rights to TV's The Game pilot?

    • @devares2006
      @devares2006 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I doubt it. Warner Discovery owns the rights to all pre-1980 MGM movies and program. This, likely, wouldn't be owned by them.

    Not bad but not great. Definitely had a 1970s aura to it, which means it was taped a decade too late. Tom was pretty good as host.

    When was this pilot filmed

    • @CreightonRabs
      @CreightonRabs ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm guessing around 1982-1983 since both Barney Miller and Lou Grant were cancelled around the spring/fall of 1982 (23:21).

    Seemed like MGM had too much trouble with game shows.

      No, it was taped at NBC Studios in Burbank. Cause you could hear those fake NBC applause machine that was used on multiple game shows and ring in buzzer was from "Blockbusters" and "Dream House".

      Judging from "Lou Grant" and "Barney Miller" being cancelled "not too long ago", somewhere around 1982, possibly '83.

    Oof... I know this was long before you-know-what, but the audience picking Bill Cosby over Joan Rivers makes you wanna do that collar tugging "Nyuugh!" thing.
    Also double oof on the audience saying Sidney should stay in the closet!

      Some things don't age well, But let's be honest before all that came out Bill Cosby may have been America's most beloved Comedian, I admit I was a massive fan myself and was delighted when I got to go to one of his shows back in 2009. I mean even Groucho Marx once personally endorsed him as a successor to him for you bet your life (hence why he got the gig in the 90s). Little did we know......

    • @ShanetheFreestyler
      @ShanetheFreestyler ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marcpower4167 Oh, for sure! We used to know him as "America's sweater-wearing dad". And before The Cosby Show, he taught some pretty hard lessons with Fat Albert that other shows wouldn't dare touch. (Gang violence and a character of the week getting gunned down!?)
      Sometimes you can learn valuable lessons from someone before you learn they are not a role model.

    First round has a major flaw: enough of the audience can choose who they want to advance instead of answering the questions truthfully.
    There are also too many Johnny Carson references. It gets old fast.

    "Which do you think is the best game show of all time?"
    I would definitely say "Wheel of Fortune". It's a show where you don't have to put your brain to the test. You just spin the wheel, guess letters in a puzzle, solve that puzzle and you get a big bunch of money. It's as simple as that.

  • @mikey7290

    In the second round, Sal was always called on first his answer was accepted and then Tom said that Judy had the other answer. I don't recall seeing Judy give an answer. Furthermore the answer that Tom says Judy chose was always the one with the lower point value. This game doesn't seem right to me. Judy should have been asked what her choice was.

    • @petermatkowski7067
      @petermatkowski7067 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was called on first because he buzzed in first. The player who buzzes in first gets to choose what answer they want. The opponent gets the other choice automatically.
