    Raw polycrystalline silicon, commonly referred to as polysilicon, is a high-purity form of silicon which serves as an essential material component in the solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing industry. It is the primary feedstock material used for the production of solar cells today.
    Which country has the most polysilicon?
    China's polysilicon production capacity surged from 116.3 million tons at the end of 2022 to 210 million tons, accounting for about 93% of global capacity, making it the world's largest polysilicon producer. China's share of global polysilicon production is expected to further increase in the future.
    How does being dependent on China provide us with energy security, Ed ?

    Labour tacitly admitted UK shale gas was viable in its 2017 manifesto, page 21, "Labour will ban fracking because it would lock us into an energy infrastructure based on fossil fuels, long after the point in 2030 when the Committee on Climate Change says gas in the UK must sharply decline."
    The Committee on Climate Change is a UK QUANGO setup by Labour's Climate Change Act 2008, which was amended in 2019 to set the new NetZero target.

    It's a simple fact, Countries with higher carbon emissions often have cheaper food due to industrialized agriculture and transportation systems that lower costs but increase carbon output. We should've used fracking sensibly, by using profits to build either mini nuclear reactors or nuclear power stations en masse. Energy would be cheap and everyone with a brain knows cheap energy means a booming or growing economy. Wind and solar energy is unreliable and the battery storage tech is nowhere near what we would deem good enough, plus expensive. No adults in parliament or most of the media.

    • @PGHEngineer
      @PGHEngineer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fracking would only give us 1 years supply of gas. That's why the government refused to grant licences. Wasn't worth the risk.
      Nuclear is even more expensive than wind power, and if they ever get fusion power to work it will be at least 3 times more expensive again.

    • @oojimmyflip
      @oojimmyflip 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PGHEngineer It has already been estimated that there is enough gas nunderneath the UK to give us 100 years supply of gas and it was investigated by British gas, the license's were revoked by the Nimbys Not in my back yard brigade on the basis that it caused seizmic movement of the ground or liquifaction in some areas but this has never been prooved beyond 1-2 on the rictor scale. Not enough to knock you off your feet. it has also been prooved scientifically in America that the water pumped into the ground absorbs lithium from the ground and this can be pumped out again to process that lithium to make Batteries, an unexpected pay-off of the fracking process, whats not to like?

    • @dereklund2321
      @dereklund2321 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PGHEngineer It's a bit more than one year's supply. According to British Geological Survey there are two main sources: the Bowland Shale Formation where the most realistic (pessimistic) estimate is 140 trillion cu ft (tcf) and Scotland's Midland Valley where there might be 49 tcf. This equates to about 100 year's supply at present rates of consumption. That sounds like a long time but it's not.

    • @PGHEngineer
      @PGHEngineer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dereklund2321 According to the company that actually set about getting the gas, and not fantasy stuff, there's about 90billion cu m which is about 1.5 years supply. • @PGHEngineer

    In the past a minister would see their role more as just guiding the expertise of the professional civil service taking advice. Now the new breed of politicians know so little they know it all and think they can run it all themselves and just impose any action without recourse or advice. Couple this with the current dire state of the civil service and we have a massive disaster looming ahead. The decline of the Conservatives was just the start of things in the failing UK government and more of the same is coming and it only heads downwards. The massive freaky majority giving absolute control with minority support adds an especially cruel twist to this mess.
