Silent Hill 4 is the most "Japanese" of all the Silent Hill games. A lot of the elements of the story sound straight out of a Japanese horror movie. I don't know, something about someone's figurative mother is the room they were born in seems like a really Japanese idea.
I love the fact that you go so much into depth with silent hill analyses. Not just the characters but the music and other elements that truly make silent hill what it is. Excellent video!
The song really strikes me of more of a mother's lullaby than something from Walter's perspective. The beginning sounds like Walter's mother looking at him as a baby, and she feels nothing towards him, as she watches him cry. But regardless of the interpretation of the song, Walter does sound like a really tragic character, someone who is a result of his circumstances.
It's meant to mimic a mother's lullaby in its nature, but it is being repurposed to be sung back by the child to an awful mother who never deserved the kind of love that the child should have received. The song is NOT actually a mother's lullaby though, because the lyrics literally state that it is a being sung to an unloving mother by her rejected child. The song is definitely from the perspective of someone like Walter, but as a child, not as the adult monster he became.
I think the light Walter is wondering about is his younger self, his childlike innosence he shed so many years ago that wanders and saves Eileen, always near behind the older, colder Sullivan but, somehow, always out pf sight and reach for him. You can never erase your past, only shut it out behind you, an ever pursuant shadow of your former self.
There are a ton of great songs in a ton of great video games but room of angel stands out to me. It is the first song that made me think damn this song was made for a video game! Its just so beautiful and haunting
I do like the idea that for some bits the song are from the mothers perspective. For instance the "Are you hiding away lost? Under the sewers?" Always made me think the mother was wondering if her fetus went down the drain. Or possibly flying high in the clouds up in heaven. A Mom wondering if her child is happy without her and how Walter is so not happy about it just adds a little extra sorrow to it all
I always 100% sure the song was about someone saying Good-bye to a dying but extremely resented mother, the child (adult) watching her final day’s in her room. Being there for her by showing love she didn’t deserve by being there. Asking wether she ever loved the child at all, asking equally where the love for their mother was at all. Lamenting days that were better off if they were never born but at the same time Stands there today as the bigger person their mother couldn’t be by being there to care for them. Only one thing left to do is but to ask her to just pass away as they hold all the turmoil of hate and regret emotions swirling for release of her death.
This interpretation nailed it. I had always thought this song was about sullivan but by some of the more obvious lyrics but you gave great insight to how the other lyrics relate. Liked.
Just discovered this channel and am wowed at how in depth you go ...I have nothing but respect for you... Am currently binge watching your videos ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing song, amazing game, only 2nd after SH2 on my favorites list (concerning the soundtracks)...and as always, an amazing introspection that most of us wouldn't have gone so deep and thorough on. You've increased my love and geekdom for Silent Hill tremendously with your videos, books and insight into this treasured series. Please keep the content coming! 🙏❤️
I love your vids. After I watched one I was hoping you’d have a section for these on your channel that would be above 50 videos and to my surprise, you had 95 lol thank you so much
Muse, I think I disagree with your assessment. Thank you for sharing your perspective. My perspective: I always took it as a lullaby that Dahlia Gillespie might have sung to Walter as a Baby. She wanted power, by any means necessary, and used Walter as a tool to try to get it.

Hikikomoris, voyeurism, introverted people, problema to express to others, big Eileen-Evangelion- head.
It is very japanese inspired compared to the previous 3 which felt more influenced by western media.
Especially with your character being a shut in.
Their most Japanese game though was Siren.
I have to agree

That song is more brilliant than i thought.
Even if this song was written on behalf of Walter, it actually resonated a lot in me with Alessa Gillespie.

Love your content! 🥰
That makes sense why the first letter is mum why dont you wake up
Please analysis other songs like Tender suger and your rain they are my favorites
I tought that the song was about Henry past.
Omg men would literally rather commit 21 ritual murders in a nightmare otherworld to resurrect a practically imaginary person than go to therapy 🙄
Yeah, all psychopaths always go to therapy. I don’t what the developers were thinking.
😂
The love you never gave me, sounds like my mum. I feel no love for her.
This destroyed me.
Walter is one of the best written characters in gaming. He's just so unique, I've never seen anyone like him in other game
