This has been really helpful. I'm about to swap the motherboard of a X1 Carbon to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB and this has been really helpful for guidance. My model is older (5th gen) but still it is really helpful to see the overall process. Thank you.
Great video, thank you! When i tried to remove the motherboard, i found that it was stuck to the keyboard. I looked underneath with a touch and seems like the black protective cover was tearing off probably due to drink spill that happeneda while back. I decided not to proceed since you said that the motherboard is not replaceable. However is it advisable to replace the overactive fan? It is loud even when not in use. Please let me know! Thanks
@henryvilchez9368 could you replace it with a wifi 6 card? It has a free slot to place a Wi-Fi 6 card but apparently the lead and black cables that are from the Wi-Fi antennas do not reach the new card.
I see other's working on these systems and they themselves are gounded, plus wearing, I believe, nitrile gloves, but yer not. Is this important as not to create static electricity that may damage the machine? And can a duster be used to remove any debris or a mico vacuum.
So fascinated watching how you beautifully disassembles this beast machine! Could you also kindly demonstrate your artisan skill in replacing the screen? I want to replace my screen of too shiny eyesore one into 1980x1028 FHD. Thanks.
hello, can you help my bios has password that i dont know this password is only to accesss the bios not the computer of course, i got this product from my company not stolen no way and they cant know what is the password for the bios :(... but i need to access the bios cos i cant use touch id it s disabled inside bios, if you can give me some help, i checked to open it it s ok, i have contacted LENOVO they told me only way is to change motherboard but no way this computer is still in warranty and i have to pay for new motherboard and just a little thing i want to use and change into the bios that s all if not i ll use this computer without touch id never mind but if open and remove the little battery in yellow can help ?? or make a clearcmos but i cant do welding i know sometimes have to do that i m not good enough for that if. thanks :) by the way good video :)
Unfortunately an unknown BIOS password is the end of the line for a motherboard. Some of the older ones could reset when removing the CMOS battery, but the newer stuff has internal backup power for the BIOS. You could try some forums. Good luck!

Any idea where to buy online the motherboard for the model above, X1 Carbon 20QD 7th Gen? I tried ebay but did not find the 7Gen. Thanks.
Can I replace the integrated wifi for a wifi 6 card? I would like to know what is that empty slot for?

Some transparent rubbery O-rings dropped out of someplace when I took mine apart and I have no idea where they came from...

We don't usually disassemble these, they are mostly glued together and you need a heat gun and some luck to take them apart without breaking things.
