Alright boys! Just got this baby in the mail today and can now tell you guys my first impressions. First i'm coming from a 2018 Mac Book Pro so its a bit of a swing for me. - First the things that are better than the Macbook: - The X1 is light; like stupid light. I never realized how heavy the macbook was until i lifted this thing. - The keyboard is a breath of fresh air; i got use to the butterflies switches after awhile but the key travel on this thing is just so much better. I will say that the keys are really stiff; and that might just be because its fresh and brand new so we will see how that pans out. - Getting the back of the laptop open so i could switch out the SSD was stupid easy; 5 Phipps head screws and your in. - Second the things that are Ok but not better than the Macbook: - The X1 looks rad; however i really wish is was made out of aluminum even still the body of the laptop is ridged and solid and i don't think its a real issue. - The screen of the device is solid; i have the 1080p version so i cant speak for the 4k but its still looks nice. The macbook screen is a little more saturated which looks 'nicer' but i cant really say which i like better. Also side note for whoever is actually reading this; this keyboard is really amazing and i getting way better at it the more i use it. Jesus i'm never switching back the the butterflies. Lastly things that are just flat out worse than the macbook: - The track-pad; really no one will ever beat apples track-pad. Its the best and this one isnt even close. However its still usable and i'm just going to have to get use to it. Also Also who puts the left and right buttons above the track-pad its just so weird. - The speakers are good and i no doubt think they are better then the 6th generation of the device where they were on the bottom of the laptop. However the speakers on the macbook blow these things out of the water. No where near close. Not even in the same ballpark. In conclusion: I really like this laptop, so far at least. i'm a Walmart employee by trade and write fantasy novels as a hobby whenever i can, so i needed a good keyboard to travel with. The weight and the keyboard on this thing are to die for and we will have to see if i actually fall in love with it or not. Thank you for reading now get back to work or whatever else you should be doing :D
Valar Morghulis I’ve got the 7th gen and I can say that I haven’t even noticed the fan like I’ve never heard it. Also it doesn’t get hot for me either but that might just because I mostly use it for internet and Microsoft word so I havent stressed it yet
@Chris D'oulmeth nice. In the Marine Corps we used think pads and we look em everywhere in all different environment and they still performed very solid. If Lenovo keep up this product quality I know I will be sticking with them.
You didn't even mention that they ditched the SD card, and gave it a smaller battery compared to 6th gen just to make it barely smaller. No available RAM slots as they are soldered. I would get the 6th gen over 7th gen, but Thinkpad wise I would get T480 over any X1 Carbon.
6th gen also has soldered ram. I heard there is less key travel in gen 7. Also better OLED screen which is more power efficient and has better contrast. I have a gen 6 and am completely ok with the better keyboard, HDR LCD (with no burn in), and bigger battery.
@@jakinthebox1 My bad if it sounded like I said that 6th gen doesn't have soldered RAM. It does of course. I was just comparing T480 with X1C. I have been back and forth with T480 and X1C for a while, and the lack of upgradability on the X1C just makes me go T480. T490 and T495 doesn't seem bad options either, but T480 is the only model out of these with rear battery. Also T490 and T495 got one soldered RAM, but one RAM slot available if I'm not mistaken.
