JPJ, the not so secret musical weapon, other than drums, that dude could play anything and was as comfortable around the studio as anyone, incredible what they came up with the help of other uber talents Page, Plant and Bonham.
The woman Robert is singing about is another singer, Joni Mitchell. I love that you love this. I am 70 in June, this is my gen's music but I love that it is being rediscovered by really young people. It's timeless.
This song is so beautiful. I like how in the middle it slants into some suspense and tension and sharper emotion and then it mellows back out again and feels great.
New subscriber!I love a lady that reacts to this band like I did way back when I was a young lass(Im 65 now)Trust me,your heart will still be doing flip flops when you watch this when you're my age! Well done, looking forward to more reactions ❤
This was one of the best part when I saw them in 1977. It was amazing to see them and how good they are on their instruments. I was especially impressed with John Paul Jones on Mandolin. He is a music master.
Another amazing live performance of that song is Page/Plant live at the 1998 Amnesty International Charity Concert, I swear that is one of Jimmy Page's best Gibson Les Paul solos, the incredible tone and improv has Robert gazing at him in wonder at one point, like that impressed him, it sure did me and I go back to the Yardbirds when first hearing him in 1967. Unreal! Enjoy. 🎸
“I want to be Jimmy’s guitar”. LOL. I did read a quote once by one of his “companions” who claimed he was the best lover she’d ever had. Doesn’t surprise me. And Robert? Well, Robert loved women. And , from what Ive read, treated them with respect and tenderness……until he moved on. There is a clip out there on TH-cam of Page and Plant touring Italy, and behind stage, being given gifts by a young woman that she’d made. For Robert, she had made a necklace. She reaches up to put it around his neck…they hug….you can see him smell her hair….and he just becomes lost. His whole persona changed in an instant. He became so tender. I felt a bit of a voyeaur even seeing that. Too intimate a moment. But I thought it told me a great deal about Robert and the way he treats women. Yeah, had i met him back in the day…. And he had expressed interest, I would have been a goner.
Hi Helene, I finally got 'round to checking that vid, and watched most of it, including the telling "tender moment" you mentioned with Plant and that Italian female fan. It was also funny to hear self-aware Robert joke, as she was fitting the necklace on him, that he had a "terrible job...the worst job I've ever had," LOL. Cool to also catch snippets of "Wanton" and "Heartbreaker," with the late great Michael Lee banging away!
@@joescott8877 agree completely. He always looked like he was enjoying himself. Sometimes it even looked like he was grinning. Made me smile. Maybe he just couldn’t believe he was actually drumming for Page and Plant.
@@helenespaulding7562 Yeah, I can see that smile of his, lol. And yet he could be quite cool and collected when nec. (much like Bonham) as on that awesome slow version of "Nobody's Fault..." that they did outside. Not to belabor this, but Dave Grohl has a similar disbelieving joy that you may have seen, where he played with Jimmy and JPJ on "Ramble On" and "Rock and Roll," and at one point yells out to the audience something like: "Welcome to the greatest f***ing moment of my entire f***ing LIFE!!" LOL.
Your fangirling for Zeppelin and Elvis and others is not only itself very charming, but only natural, as well as showing that you have great taste in music --and charisma, lol! I don't even know if I should dare to ask if you've seen much of The BEATLES, haha, for THEY may just be THE most fangirled groups EVER, and for very good reason, lol! Talk about CHARMING! AND talented! If you watch ANY performance from "The Ed Sullivan" Beatles shows, you'll hear and see what I mean!
2:49 "The Smile that's launched a thousand squeals," LOL! I was kinda thinking, going on your past reactions, that you'd blush a little or whatever when Robert smiled like that. Heck, I'm a straight male and it even has an effect on ME, LOL! But yeah, the music is gorgeous as well, and the lyrics are so good. Robert was inspired to write this in honor of Joni Mitchell. Him and Jimmy both crushed hard on her, and she really respected Zeppelin, but they never dated. Her songs are fire, too, kind of Folk Rock.
Robert&Jimmy both say that this song was inspired by and refers to singer/songwriter/musician extraordinaire JoniMitchell, and in particular by her song "California" from her amazing lp "Blue"... 🌈
Oh, I just thought of this. "The Rain Song" is not acoustic, but is "soft" and you get to see Jimmy be very tender and exquisite with his electric guitar, playing the most lovely notes. ANd John Paul Jones is actually shown a bit while playing a lovely organ. John Bonham has some incredible drum moments, and of course Robert sings very gentle, tender lyrics, but powerful , too. It's also kind of a music video, so you see Robert in a castle getting in a sword fight to protect his woman and such, lol. From 1973, MSG.
Love all your LZ reactions! No Quarter live from Madison Square Gardens is very unique and John Paul Jones is the main instrumentalist. It's an eerie different blow your mind song!
Love your reaction! This song is my go to when l'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed...the only complaint l have is that it's too darn short... sometimes l have to listen to it 2 or 3 times!☺️
Great for you to hear the acoustic side of this amazing band... There is SO much more for you to discover!!!.... I would suggest the studio recording of When the Levee Breaks!
That is great but you do realize, some of the songs you heard were the best vocals and the best instrumental fused in the studio. Sometimes from completely different shows. Studio wizardry by Jimmy Page. But that being said, they are the greatest rock band that ever existed.
In 2004 I remember getting the Led Zeppelin DVD (Desert Cover) and thinking to myself I'll just check out the 2 or 3 songs that I knew and really wanted to see... something like 3 hours later I realized I had watch the whole thing... I know think I moved, I don't think I breathed... it changed my life. I've read stories that when Zeppelin first started playing shows and later when someone would see them for the first time a lot of them would leave early from the shows. They were overwhelmed by the experience and couldn't handle it, but it also brought them back for more haha. I sadly have only see dvd, or other video of live Zeppelin and felt such incredible emotion I can only wish to have experienced it for real.

I've read they're singing about Joni Mitchell in this tune. "Someone told me there's a girl out there, with love in her eyes & flowers in her hair." Luv your reactions, thanks!
Great reaction! Young people like you are what it will take to keep great music alive like Led Zepplin Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd How about Trampled Under Foot live from 1975 concert I believe for a suggestion?
I bought a mandolin after hearing this album back in the 1970's. Found I didn't want to practice but still got my man with the lure of it. This band was instrumental in hooking up with my husband of 48 years.

If you like Going To California, I HIGHLY recommend you listen to Battle of Evermore. There is no official live version so I recommend listening to the studio version. It’s on Led Zeppelin 4. It is another folk song, but it is sung in a very beautiful but intensely powerful way. It’s also the only song Led Zeppelin ever did with Robert singing a duet with another singer. Also Jimmy plays the mandolin instead of the guitar. If you’re going to explore Led Zeppelin‘s softer side, this is one you can’t miss.

Much as Robert, Jimmy and John Bonham are the big stars of Zep, JPJ is their secret weapon. Playing rocking bass in the straight songs but playing organ and bass pedals in the others and also heavily involved in orchestration I believe. And then here he just picks up a mandolin
Unbelievable that Page and Plant have this kind of magic over women of today.
That’s John Paul Jones playing the mandolin Ola. He’s a very talented multi musician.
JPJ, the not so secret musical weapon, other than drums, that dude could play anything and was as comfortable around the studio as anyone, incredible what they came up with the help of other uber talents Page, Plant and Bonham.

Lol. “I want to be the mic.” That’s one way to get Robert to whisper sweet nothings to you. Whisper to thunder Led Zeppelin has it covered.
Are you gay or somethin?
"That's the way" is a must watch from this acoustic set 😃🥰
I second that idea!
I love how much she loves Robert Plant. You would have fit right in during the 70’s. 😂
There is led Zeppelin and there no one else best band ever talented beyond belief best band ever led to
The song " Thank you " will melt you
"Unplugged" decades previous to the lucrative MTV era of such performances. Sheer genius.

not by the band...they said he was the best musicion of the group

Such a beautiful song, such a beautiful man. I wish I was the mike- ahaha, made me laugh and nod my head in agreement 😅
I love seeing how moved you were.

Plant had a real crush on her and often ended the song " Oh Joni"
The one and only Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin the best band great song love your reaction
