The thing I love about led zeppelin is that John Paul Jones gets far less “commercial” praise but hands down he was their secret weapon

John Paul Jones was the best musician in the band from a purely technical perspective in the group. So important and doesn't receive nearly as much credit as he should.

I wanted to love the same music as my dad. His favorite band was led zeppelin and his favorite song was going to california. Instantly it became mine. I would listen to it over an over and dream about meeting a girl with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
11 years ago I met my wife, we were both out at a bar, the bar tender set down two shots of Jameson, doubles, but before i could take them away some reached up and swiped them from me. I turned to face the whiskey bandit and saw the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. I thought she was an angel. There she was , a complete stranger, but at the same time not, blue eyes, blonde hair, and a white carnation in her hair. We fell in love that night.
Whenever we went out and had fun, we would come home, push the couches aside and dance in the living room. We would always end it with this song. I would try to sing the words in my awful singing voice. If she didn't have a flower in her hair I would pick one from our garden and put it in her hair.
On our wedding day she wore flowers in her hair that would make. Flourist blush. Jasmine and carnations and Lilly's. We danced to this song with all of our friends and family.
This past august was the 2 year anniversary of her death. She only lived for 30 years. 11 of those years as my best friend and 3 as my wife. Complications from diabetes.
When It was time to say goodbye I didn't want to. Her family and mine did their best to keep me from falling down. I knelt beside her with a white carnation in my hand. I gently put it in her hair and secured it with a bobby. I told her how beautiful she looked and softly reccited those familiar words. As she took her last breaths I whispered to her .."..someone told me theirs a girl out there, with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair"
Sorry to writing a novel. I doubt anyone will read this whole thing. This song just means so much to me and when I see reactors that I really like reacting to it and hearing it for the first time, idk it's hard to explain. Maybe you can't relate to my story. But that's ok. I'm sure you have your own story and your own song that is special to you. Thank you for reacting to my song though. I hope you loved it as much as I do. I don't listen to it anymore, their havnt been many happy times the past 2 years. But seeing you react to it was a little bit of happiness. Thanks.

Your story is deeply moving, and I am sorry to hear how it ended. But don’t give up - keep your head held high and think positive thoughts. You are not the only one who has this song as the alltime favorite. Keep listening to it. Don’t let go…❤

    • @DomAtaGlance
      @DomAtaGlance ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@tilnilken1406 hey thank you so much. I appreciate you reading it. It was cathartic for me to write, even if no one read it. But the fact that someone did, it feels really nice. I'm hanging in there, Caitlin was such a big part of me, my past, my present , my future, my best friend, my drinking buddy, dancing partner. Every single breath I took, every thought I had, every dream, every concern, every emotion. when I was excited, happy, nervous , sad, she was apart of everything.
And then one day, POOF! They're gone. The person I was before she died died with her. Whoever I am now, and whoever I'm going to be in the future is someone new. And that's ok. Even though that life with her didnt last very long, I would do it over again in a heartbeat. Even knowing what I know now. All the pain, and suffering that's involved. If I could do it over, a million more times, I would choose her a million out of a million. Even if the pain was a million times more, and suffering a million times stronger. I would walk into that bar, introduce myself, and kiss her at the end of the night, every single time.

Led Zeppelin were not just a heavy rock band... They were also huge fans of acoustic music and this was part of an acoustic set, which was part of their majestic 3 hr concerts (This one filmed in 1975 at Earl's Court in London)
Some of their mellow acoustic tracks include - 'The Battle of Evermore' (feat. Sandy Denny)... 'Tangerine' ... 'Ten years gone' ... "Gallow's pole"

Happy birthday, Aileen! 29 is such a wonderful age. You're near the end of your 20s, yet there's something wonderful about being in your 30s. The life, the experiences, the learning, the stories of the life you lead into your 40s and beyond, when a deeper wisdom takes over. Many blessings to you, my friend! ♥
Isn't this an incredibly beautiful song? From a band that brought us Whole Lotta Love and Immigrant Song, they could pull these tender moments out of their talents and make their music so much more than balls to the wall. A prime example of how great Led Zeppelin really was and remains to this day.
If you ever get the chance to listen to the early Heart, 1975 to 1979, you'll discover the powerful influence Led Zeppelin had over the band. From hard rockers like Barracuda to the lightly erotic Magic Man (he's got magic hands, mama) to gorgeous tracks like Love Alive and Mistral Wind, the original Heart group was supremely talented. If you've not heard them yet, I highly recommend their early works.

The song started out as a song about Californian earthquakes and when Jimmy Page, audio engineer Andy Johns and band manager Peter Grant travelled to Los Angeles to mix Led Zeppelin IV, they coincidentally experienced a minor earthquake. At this point it was known as "Guide to California".
According to music writer Nick DeRiso, Joni Mitchell also inspired the song: "Plant makes a clear reference to 'I Had a King', the opening song from Mitchell's debut album, 1968's Song to a Seagull: 'To find a queen without a king', he quietly offers in the final verse. 'They say she plays guitar, cries and sings.' In an interview for Spin magazine, Plant admitted that it "might be a bit embarrassing at times lyrically, but it did sum up a period of my life when I was 22."

Happy BDay Aileen! Love your reactions! These guys were so versatile! Rock to blues to folk, mix them together, country, rockabilly, reggae, funk, soul, rhumba and if they could have stayed together longer, we may have seen them try even more! This was part of 3 song acoustic set for this show which also included "Thats the Way" and "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" This was a tribute to the Great Joni Mitchell, whom Robert and Jimmy crushed on in the late 60s & early 70s. Joni once said in an interview, that LZ were the only male rockstars of that time who had the courage to admit they listened to her music and drew inspiration from it!

  • @mikes3827

LOLOL@Aileen's passion towards Robert's voice. Don't worry, throngs and throngs (as in millions and millions) of women were (and still are) ga-ga over Robert, be it his voice, sex appeal, etc. At the expense of showing bias because Zeppelin is my all-time favorite band, they were/are arguably the tightest band ever in terms of being genuinely great friends (e.g. Robert and John Bonham being childhood friends, etc.) and just clicking when they played their SUBLIME music together.
Like Robert once said about performing as a member of the band, "We really get off on playing together." They were together just over a decade, but when they were together, Bonzo was SUCH an integral part of the band, that when he died, Led Zeppelin died. To give a couple examples of that closeness, when Robert's young son died suddenly of a virus, it was Bonzo who went to be with his grieving friend & band mate, and John Bonham never left Robert's side for continuous days on end, then eventually talking Robert back to playing with the band. So when the shocking death of 32-yr-old Bonzo rocked the music world, people have said Bonzo's death almost mortally wounded Robert, as well.
Ya obviously know the term NEXT LEVEL; Led Zeppelin was sooooooo Next Level it was ridiculous.

Acoustic or Electric, Studio or Live, they always were the best. For another live thrill, from when Page and Plant got back together in the 90s, try them at the Amnesty International charity show in 1998, the do an incredible version of Babe, I'm Going to Leave You, with an unexpected Jimmy Page solo that is one of the best I've ever heard/seen. Jaw dropping stuff, still freaks me out and will you too, when you see it. At one point, Robert Plant is seen gazing in amazement as Page goes off, very impressive considering how often he has seen Page close up throughout the years. Well worth tracking down, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

    Happy Birthday !
This is the folky side of Led Zeppelin poking through.
If you want to see how they faired through the years . They reunited in 2007 at the 02 arena London for a gig to celebrate the founder of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun. I would suggest Kashmir as a good example.
The disband in 1980 after the death of drummer Jon Bonham and although they performed at Live Aid in 1985, this 2007 concert was the only reunion. Fittingly Jon's place behind the kit was taken by his son Jason a very talented drummer in his own right.
The power, the passion and the magic isn't diminished by the passing years

How many more times (Led Zeppelin 1)
When the levee breaks (Led Zeppelin 4)
As for the latter, I will suggest you listen to it twice. The first being the album version, and the second being a project called "Playing for change". It was a group of various artist featuring Mr. John Paul Jones.

You know Robert is the singer , he is, Jimmy is the guitarist, awesome, and Bozo on drums is a clock, never misses and keep the time with power and precision , and then there JPJ doing everything else, here it's mandolin, sometimes it's keys sometimes Bass, . .there must be a god , these four getting together was not an accident,

  • @mrnobody3161
    @mrnobody3161 ปีที่แล้ว

It should be noted that John Paul Jones who mostly plays Bass and Keyboards in Led Zeppelin, is playing the Mandolin in this performance. JPJ was very much in demand as a multi instrumentlist, studio musician and musical arranger before joining Led Zeppelin. He deserves more recognition for his contributions to the Led Zeppelin sound. Even in this performance the Camera hardly shows him.
Happy Day of the Anniversary of Your Birth into the Material World .
My Led Zeppelin request is the Rain Song, which was George Harrison's Challenge to Led Zeppelin to write a Romantic Ballad.

born in Ca. and lived my life here . When this came out Ca. was the center of the world, 5 years advanced from most places......some even more. Have all their original albums still but this peaceful song is still my favorite. I was getting a little burned out with hard guitar rock after about5 years and this just readjusted them a little bit. Not too hard not too soft........just right ! i still grew up with hard metal, punk etc. but my tastes vary quite a bit.
