  • Back in 1985, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove West on WA SR-908 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

I love watching this and recognizing building/businesses that are still here today.

At 6:55, you can see the brand new Kirkland Costco. It opened in 1985. That is where the Costco Hotdog concept came from. A street vendor selling hotdogs in a cart with an umbrella and you got a can of soda for $1.50. The hot dogs were sold at the entrance and exit outside of Costco.
At 14:25 that should be the entrance to the Seahawks practice facility down at Carillon point. They moved up the hill in 1986 but this video was July 1985.

You're partially Correct. However, on the right at 6:55 "Exactly" is an empty lot, which is now Honda of Kirkland. The Costco is right behind the Mobile Sign at exactly 7:12 (Turn Right at the sign & it's 200 feet down the street on the left.

At 7:40 - 7:55 if you look on the Right, you'll see tons of empty lots. Most of that area used to be Farm Land. There was an Older Man who owned most of the land & for years he refused to sell. However, Developers kept pestering Him, because the Property all had great views of Lake Washington & Seattle ! By the late 90's he only had one parcel left.
The last Piece of land he sold turned into Three 3,000 Sq Foot Homes that all ended up selling for over 3 Million per House a few years ago.
His land turned into over 60 Homes that are all worth Millions now. He would probably roll over in his grave. Because the Average price of a Home in this neighborhood was about $175,000 when this Video came out.
