We actually do use salt on our roads. Kind of an apples to oranges comparisons though. We don't get a ton of snow on the West side of the state and winter temps aren't typically below freezing for long stretches. There have been events where we have been below freezing for several weeks, but that's not the norm. Also, we get a lot of rain outside of the summer months, some places more than others (lookup rain shadow effect, which will cause some places to get a sprinkling of rain whereas nearby areas get a dousing, depending on which way a weather system is moving in), but in any case, after a freezing event is over, its extremely common for a warmup into the 40-50s and then rain, which more or less washes everything off into the rivers and Puget Sound (which are sensitive ecosystems and part of the reason we don't go heavy on chemical ice/snow removal like most Northern States).
Pretty much the same as it does now. And no, it wasn't safer back then. I think that is nostalgia talking 😂. Contrary to what people think and how it makes us feel, things weren't always safer and better in the "good ol' days."
Wow I love this; I live in WA but I was born in the early 2000’s so it’s fascinating to see actual footage of such a familiar place in the past (and not just a movie depiction or whatever. But raw, real)
So cool seeing the old buildings before they burned down and or demolished. The corner at Hewitt is so much different now without the 76 and the addition of the Arena. Also love seeing so many "old" cars. Also the WSU campus replacing the entire shopping center in north Everett. And BEST! Remember BEST? If you don't know it, check it out on Wikipedia. That part of Everett really hasnt changed much. That hospital to the left he references will have a big impact on my life in about a month and a half from when this video was filmed. I was hit by a car and broke my femur bone when I was 9. I spent 3 weeks in that hospital.
If I'm driving north on Broadway I almost always catch the red light at 19th. I wonder why I can never seem to come to the junction at 19th while on Broadway at one of those times when the light is green "forever" for Broadway.
