Hi Joe & Nic - on your next visit to Sac, please check out the 'fabulous 40s' - these streets have the most beautiful residential homes one could imagine, definitely right up your alley, no trip to Sac should miss that!

This is the best video of Sacramento. I see you did your research. A lot of people says Sacramento is a boring city but they don’t look at the rich history & the beautiful architectures. Incredible walk through. Even I don’t even know much of the building year it was build and I live here. You did great. 👍

That's South Sac Iraq. I grew up in Stockton and you have to expect some riff raff...but you can never be caught slipping and be street smart too. But as a sub in the 80s and 90s, students respect how you project and handle yourself.

@@Runitup84 Right, I'm thinking of Florin. Yep we used to play Grant and North Highlands in football back in the80s. Thuggish schools, but so was Edison in South Stockton so no biggie. But none of these HS were as thuggish as Castlemont Oakland...those MFers came to fight rather than play ball! Castlemont had a good jazz funk band though.

DPH gets pretty crazy at times. Grant always had a formidable football team. It was good to see at least a percentage of those kids getting a chance to have a life outside of the streets. Not many of the kids who grow up in that hood ever made it outta there. I wish we as a society would do something significant to help them aside from labelling them as gangsters, slapping on the handcuffs, and locking them in a cage.

Sacramento is a pretty nice place. You picked a good time to visit as the summer the heat can be sweltering. The California Railroad Museum is awesome. The locomotive you saw was only a fraction of the collection. The indoor museum is spectacular with many more trains and exhibits. For those who may not know, Sacramento was the beginning of the Transcontinental Railroad and the Central Pacific Line commissioned by President Lincoln going to the east over Donner Pass and the Sierra Nevada meeting up with the Union Pacific at Promontory Point, Utah. Well chronicled in the Steve Ambrose book: Nothing Like it in the World. Great video!

If you end up going further north, be sure to make a stop in Willows, California. I've never lived there. But it's one of the more charming small cities of the central valley, and they have the Thunderhill Raceway Park. I grew up in Esparto California, a small town located just outside Capay Valley, which is a pretty gorgeous landscape that also has the Cache Creek Casino Resort; the main moneymaker of Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. The tribe has been very supportive of Esparto and its residents through yearly $1M donations to the school system, and the recent construction of both a health clinic and a park with a pool seen just as you enter town. Esparto is about 45 minutes west of Sacramento but there's all sorts of very small towns when you go futher up the valley. I recommend you check it out if you get the chance. There's also some wineries further north of there if you're in to that sort of thing.

I actually worked at the 🚒🔥 firehouse ( restaurant), which was shown. Anyways, after 8 years of living in Manhattan, I moved back to Sacramento, 10 years, ago. It was still very affordable, back then, but now it's gotten expensive, and it's growing very quickly. But overall, it's a nice city, to call home( and with restaurants, like ( Tres Hermanas, ), you can't go wrong!

Hi, anybody care to explain tipping to an Aussie. Australia does not have a culture of tipping. There are tips jars but these are usually to get rid of shrapnel. Australian’s believe that if a person is being paid a fair wage (between $25 and $40 per hour, adults and casual hospitality…more on Sundays and public holidays) that they are expected to do their job to an expected level, that being to see that the tables or customers they are responsible for are attended to with a conscientious attitude. They don’t have to be servile or forlock tugging, just polite and attentive.
Joe and Nic in this vid paid $US90 for a upmarket ‘Pub’ meal (about $AUS140). The Bangers and Mash was at the high price end of a comparable meal in Oz. The going rate for a Bangers and Mash, peas, onions, gravy is $AUS20 ($US14) pretty much anywhere. You get three, nice pork or beef snags, and the sides.
The general floor staff are getting around $AUS25 to $28 per hour on a normal day. Reasonable wages in anybody’s lingo. Hence it’s rare for an Aussie to tip staff unless the service is extraordinarily above what they should be doing anyway.
From what I can see in the video all Joe and Nic did was sit down, order their tucker and on the bill there is mention of not only a tip, yet three different measures of a tip, yet the meal, for what it seemed was expensive (especially the grog).
Either the management are scalping their staff by giving them low wages, or the establishment is paying $20+ph wages and diddling customers with the tipping or food and utilities is monstrously expensive. I know California is expensive but not that expensive.

You could’ve googled that information, man. Servers make not more than $15per hour and usually a lot less. Good service gets 15% tip technically on subtotal (before tax) but nobody does it that way. Great service gets 20%.

    • @dopeMike_
      @dopeMike_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

You bascially end up paying for a whole other meal or at least half of another one once you add in the tip.
Ive been to places where the tipping started at 20% and we hardly ever saw our waiter. I left a 10% tip.

Besides the bridge, there's another famous tower associated with Sacramento: Tower Records, that started out there in the early 60s. Did you get a chance to check out the Railroad Museum during your visit? I got a chuckle at 15:42 seeing the Embassy Suites on the right side of the road--when I stayed there years ago I got in trouble for going barefoot in the lobby to the breakfast bar. Curious to see your exploration of Gold Country, I'm headed up there next week myself. Until next time, happy trails!

I like the distinctive style of the bridge, but I don't like the color.
I never knew that the name meant sacrament in Spanish or that the place had the most trees per capita. 😊

G'day from Australia, have only recently come across your channel but have enjoyed watching previous video's of towns you have visited. Very entertaining and informative in your talks, one thing I do have to say is I am shocked at the amount of run down (refuse to use poverty) that the majority of places are, what is causing this, here in Australia we do have smaller rural towns that eventually shut down, but the big difference between here and the USA is population, Australia's population at present is 26 million on a land mass the same as mainland USA ?, please keep making these video's.

The Oakland video was truly shocking. I expected the next video to see San Francisco. Did you decide to skip it after seeing Oakland? Just wondering... If you did I wouldn't blame you. I live an hour north in Sonoma Co and would like to see you cover up here. I refuse to go to S.F. because it's worse than Oakland. I'm glad you made it out of Oakland safely!
