So if you get the Cube that does not have to change the oil with the pump is inside, does the pump last long? Because with the pump on the outside, if the pump breaks, you can get a new pump but what do you do if the pump breaks when it’s inside the actual freeze dryer? You have to get a whole new freeze dryer? Or find someone in your area who can work on a freeze dryer pump? Or replace the pump inside the freeze dryer? That sounds kind of scary like maybe your whole system would be ruined.
Hi Pete, I took some onions that were going off in the kitchen and planted them in the garden and when they started to sprout I separated the sprouts and now the bulbs didn't form round but instead they have become leak onions can you maybe explain why that has happened
The best way to plant onions are from seed or small onion plants started from seeds. But as the bulb is growing, you need to remove the soil around the onion bulbs so they can grow bigger and not have the soil restrict them.
You have to be carful not to over stuff the machine. A medium HR holds 8 to 13lbs of food and the cube will hold 10 to 14lbs. I just had that problem with my large HR. I put 20lbs of chicken bone broth in my large HR and I had to stop it after 61 hours because of the ice build up was hitting the lower tray and it was only 3/4 ways done. I had to put the food back in the freezer and defrost the HR and started over and it took another 12 hours to finish.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I do not over stuff the trays! I think I and my sister have purchased an expensive dud. She just contacted me and asked me how I was fixing the same problems she is having. I have contacted the company and still haven't heard back. Because My home is run on solar I always put a single layer of food on the trays so they dry fast and don't over tax the system batteries. I have run 2 batches through and have had to run them twice each. I went with the cube thinking I would get better support but so far that isn't working.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I sure hope so. I contacted them on the 19th and am still being run around in circles. I have warned my friends who were interested in the cube not to buy it! That is an expensive piece of equipment not to have support.
I’ll have to pick up the drying racks. I’m enjoying my Cube so much!

Does the freeze dryer use a lot of electricity as it has to run so long? Thanks.
How much longer did it take to freeze dry stacking versus just doing the chopped?
I'll have to do a separate video on that but honestly, it's didn't take much longer.
I’m curious, does The dry onion have that pungent zest/spice as the fresh onion ?
For the most part yes, but I freeze dried the Texas super sweet onions and they are very sweet and addicting to munch on.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Thank you. I like the spicy onions, I think it kills germs. 😊
When you freeze dry onion do you get that overwhelming smell
@@kimballurio1677 not really, but it could depend on what variety onion you have.

My cube isn't working very well. It took twice as long as they did in my HR.

@@lyndabuchholz1216 Wow, sorry to hear that. I know it's not a good feeling after buying a new freeze dryer. They will be able to fix.
