Such a good idea to put the tray in the freezer first and then pour the eggs into in.
You do such a great job with your videos! I love watching them.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 👍
Could you do a side by side comparison with your Harvest Right and The Cube with eggs comparing time and cost. We are looking to buy and are curious value comparison. Thank you Pete, we enjoy your videos, they are always so informative.
Thanks, I have a large HR and it wouldn't be accurate comparing the two. I really like the cube freeze dryer. It seems well built for the short time that I've had it. When we bought our HR we had nothing but problems with vacuum and refrigerant leaks. So far the cube works great, compact and does more food than the medium HR.
@petebeasttexashomesteading I would like to see a comparison too. Why do you think I it would not be accurate to compare the two?
We need a freeze dryer. Thanks for sharing.
My husband and I have done our intensive research and have decided on purchasing The Cube. Thank you for the video! We will be buying very soon.
Awesome 👍 you'll enjoy freeze drying and experimenting with all kinds of food. We'll also show the candy express mode in our next video.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I would be interested in seeing the vacuum sealing, please. :)
I ordered this unit 3 months ago and have not yet recieved it. Did you get yours yet?
Thank you for the video, I have a few questions if you have time:
Have you ran your harvest right with the power monitor? Comparison?
It still seemed very loud, any difference from harvest right?
How about any special electrical requirements?
Which harvest right size would this be comoarable to?
I haven't run a power comparison to my harvest right because my HR is a large freeze dryer. It's actually less noisy than my harvest right because of the internal pump. There are no special electric requirement, it's a standard 120volt 15amp. It's comparable to the medium HR but holds 25% more food. Hope this helps.
How do you do your flushing on the internal oilless pump? They need to be flushed after every cycle or the pump will need to be rebuilt because the vanes inside it get wet. Is there a quick release door for it or is the flush built into the software?
Also, how big is the pump? It seems like it would need to be pretty small to fit in the unit.
Do you still use your harvest right unit?
Thank you for your time.
As far as I know, there is no need to flush the pump. The pump is smaller than the HR oilless pump and is under warranty. They will send a new one if it goes bad. But they feel that this pump will last a long time because they ran it for two years straight with no problems. We will be using our HR soon, now that we've got it back from HR for repairs for lost refrigerant.
I was hoping you would do a side-by-side Challenge on that so we could see the difference hours and wattage and cost
It really wouldn't be a fair comparison because my HR is a large FD and the cube is more of a medium FD.
They sell a different brand unit at Tractor Supply for a bit over a grand. Someone at our flea market got one and is selling freeze dried candy, so you can end up making money with one of these too.
There are other brands of freeze dryers but they are made in China.
As a repair tech I prefer a separate vacuum pump for easy replacement. For the average user, replacing the internal vacuum pump in this unit would require an expensive technician service call. In my opinion this is a step back in user technology.
As to the square door seal, I question the longevity of the seal verses a round seal.
Actually the pump is very easy to replace once the back cover is removed. I can see that the pump that they use is much more efficient and produces almost no heat which means less friction. I can run the cube in a room with no heat issues, I can't do that with my HR. I have to run fans on the HR or I'll get an excessive room heat warning on the display. I really don't see a problem with the door seal longevity, it all depends on the quality of rubber that's used.
Why is the power switch in the back of the unit?
Not sure why but most freeze dryers switches are in the back.
Our biggest complaint with Harvestright is the insufficient vacuum problem. We have had our for 2 1/2 months and only been able to get maybe 6 successful runs. Any problems with the new freeze dryer yet? We pay 21 cents per KWh in Michigan.
I had the same issues with my HR when we first got it, and had to return it to HR recently because of loss of refrigerant. It's unfortunate that HR is having so many problems with its freeze dryer but that's what usually happens when you use cheaper parts to keep cost down. People complain in the comments about The Cube being expensive compared to the HR, but like the old saying goes, You get what you pay for. I've only had the Cube for a short time but it's been working great as it's suppose to.
Be sure to wash down your freeze drier really well after freeze drying raw eggs or raw meat. Else you will have bacteria growing in your freeze drier which can be transferred to subsequent freeze drying batches.
=pshaw= we pay .43 per kwh, so it would cpst us four times as much, which would be more in the neighborhood of $15 to do that batch
😲 that's expensive for electricity
@@petebeasttexashomesteading yes; we live in expensive california
I want a larger machine 7 tray.... this machine cost more than the competition whom is more extablished? Why would I pay more for a smaller machine??
I can think of two, quality and reliability. I own a large HR and we've had nothing but problems right out of the box. Vacuum leaks which I had to tear down the machine to fix with countless calls to HR. I also had to send it back to HR because it lost all the refrigerant which the whole process took one month.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I would absolutely like to check out any suggestions. I have seen many bad reviews on the large Harvest Right Machince an two people on the reviews said they got 100.00 rebate for the 5 star review.
@@JessAnnLightRiver Wow 😲 not good to bribe people for a good review. I love the fact that Harvest right came out with a home freeze dryer for everyone. Unfortunately it looks like the parts they use are of low quality, that will keep the price down but it's biting them in the butt. There are so many videos of people having problems, I was one of them but I decided not to do a video about it. The XL Harvest right looks great and we thought about getting one, but then I think about all the problems I'm having with the large.🙁
Question, we saw that fresh eggs were blended, and then placed raw into the trays, is there a part where it was cooked?
Or did I miss a step?
Typically, eggs are freeze dried raw. After rehydation (weeks, months or years later), you treat them the same as raw - great for cooking, baking or frying/scrambling.
@@2galshomesteading Agreed. Usually 2Tb egg powder + 2 Tb water = one egg
We don't cook the eggs before freeze drying, although you could freeze dry cooked eggs.
@@2galshomesteading Good to know, thank you.
Eggs are raw...you reconstitute before you use them in your recipes or favorite omlet...they are really good.
You should get a contract with the GOVT. to feed the Army ..
I don.t think Pete wants to have anything to do with our so called Gov.
